We're moving and this is the opportunity to stop paying DirecTV (been a subscriber for years including NFL Network). Not gonna pay them anymore.

I know there are many options (we have Apple TVs and already do Netflix) but what are the best group of options for local channel watching and HBO, Showtime, etc? Someone recommended YouTube TV?

What are you using? Recommendations?

Been wanting to do this myself. Check out Sling TV....thats where I'm leaning cuz I believe you can get local channels and stuff. Tired of that DTV bill that keeps going up and getting nothing for more. Don't even watch TV much anymore. My wife pretty much streams on Netflix. Just got Amazon Prime on a trial....and she likes it....just more options to stream. My kids don't even use DTV really. We have a couple Roku TVS and stream some of the channels from that too......not sure how it will work though if you don't have account with a provider like DTV though. Cuz when you stream those cable channels... (like FX, etc) you have to use a code to access....and you get that via your provider.

I also been wanting to just cancel DTV and then just sign up under my name on a new acct....it's currently under my wife's name. Then I can just deal with the waaay cheaper monthly nut for 2 years on a new acct.

This is exactly what I've been doing for the past 8 years. DTV could care less about exsisting customers.

We have done that a few times over the years. Lately been just calling every year and threatening to leave them and they lower the rate.

I still have Directv $175 bucks a month but I camp a lot, the main reason I keep it, A lot of the cost are the receivers. I also have skystream 2 for the new movies and the on demand stuff.

DTV kept increasing my rates and i had enough and cancelled. I wouldnt worry about finding new entertainment. After a few months you will forget about all the old shows you followed and how much of a slave we are to the couch and tv. I do have my amazon prime on my tv and will watch a movie here and there to get my fix.

I too only keep my DTV for the fact of being able to set up my mobile dish for the SC tailgates. I threw a couple of people on my account with their own boxes that help absorb the monthly cost. I have a amazon firebox with kodi to be able to watch the dodgers and any new movies.

I cancelled dtv a couple of years ago. Have amazon prime and netflix. 180 buck Bill dropped to 14 bucks a month. We get prime for free with our fire tablets. Paying 50 s month for internet still but it is what it is. Any thing sports i watch online Reddit has the streaming options for any sporting event.

I got rid of cable 3 years ago. Actually don't have a TV anywhere in the house. There are plenty of entertainment options.

I cut the chord a couple years ago, never going back! Amazon prime tv is free with my prime account, Netflix and a commercial free Hulu account! So awesome never having to watch commercials or never having to fast forward like a DVR. I also get the major network on the old fashioned tv antenna.

My wife and I have been talking about this also. You just get your news online? Or did you ditch internet also?

The only network TV we watch is local news & weather (and high speed pursuits) so we want that (and no, I don't want to use an HD Antenna).

And we watch HGTV, DIY and Fox News. That's about it except for HBO (GoT and a few others) and Showtime.

I'd like to know the best options for that stuff if you have suggestions.

Through Amazon Prime I have HBO. It's an additional 13 or 14 bucks a month. I have an HD attenna for network tv. You can add on Showtime as well.

Based on what Ive heard.....sounds like Sling could work for you. That's what has me wanting Sling as well. Just haven't pulled the trigger. Suppose I could sign up for Sling and try it first before I ditch DTV. All my other shit keeps me too busy to get er done. :D

So, no HD antenna? Keep DTV, I guess...

We ditched cable years ago.
For less than $100 you can buy a box to feed broadcast network onto any TV.
If you have a smart tv you’re good to go.
We do Amazon and Netflix, I think we let Hulu go.
The antenna that was mounted in the attic 20 years ago when we bought this house is still there, and working just fine.
Screw paying +$1,200 a year to watch tv.

Been off the DTV teet for 14 months now. Renegade box has paid for itself 4x over, not including PPV fights, movies still in or not even in the theaters yet, etc.

I just was going over my Spectrum bill that came today, my promotion (triple play) ended and they raised my bill by $30 to a total of $160. I called and pretended to cancel if they couldn't offer me the same promotion that they offer new customers, they said NO and they would be happy to cancel my service, no problem lol. Son of a gun.. I gave it my best shot. They weren't having any of it.

For you guys saying that you only pay a few bucks a month for Amazon and Netflix (i do too), you still have to have to pay for high speed Wifi. My Spectrum bill at $160 includes 200MB Wifi, lots of channels, 3 top boxes, DVR, Dodgers etc.. Not sure what my next step is.

I pay $69.99/mo for Cox premium serivce here in Vegas. I see 180Mbps down and 18Mbps up. 1TB data limit per month. I stream 4 Nest cameras, watch only streamed TV content, usually at 720p or higher and use about 400Gb per month.

I also have spectrum... my bill was $220 month. I returned all the boxes (6)canceled dvr and home phone. Now I stream everything with the spectrum app. My bill went down to $130 for internet and tv.
I tried sling. Didn’t care for it at all. No cbs, kcal,cw or kcop. You can only stream abc on 1 device at a time. The package I put together on sling would have cost $50.

We moved to Zbox from DirectTV. One time fee, Internet and App based. We'll never go back. DirectTV can kiss my Ass. Zbox is a local guy too.
