I think my best season back in the day may have been 50-75 days. I was instructing that year so it was working quite a bit and not just rad days doing what I wanted, super fun job but also a lot of work teaching the kiddos to snowboard.

Last year I scored a primo late season baldy day, fresh foot over night and clear blue skys the following morning, Monday April 15. That was a good one for sure. I’ll drop whatever and hit baldy when those days hit which are far and few.

I won’t do big bear or wrightwood anymore, it’s just not the vibe I’m into. I don’t like the crowded resorts with the lame ass look at me people. That leaves travel trips to sweet spots as the option, super spendy to take the whole family someplace, my wife and kid suck so it’s no fun for me to go with them let alone take them someplace rad and ruin the trip for me😂

I may sneak off up to Jackson this winter, it’s on my list of places to hit. Only been there in the summer and it looks amazing.

Got any trips planned?

Mary Jane - Dec 26 through Jan 1

We will try to add a Mammoth trip, but the schedule with my daughters volleyball will make that difficult

We usually do Park City for a week every year but decided to skip this year. Last year, I didn’t have as much fun as I normally did. The last couple years, I’ve been more prone to injury and worry about getting hurt and effecting my ability to work. We’re going to Belize instead.

Wife and kids already have 5 days in. Kids are on ski team. Wife's an assistant coach. Races start after new years. Then it's 2-3 days a week on the mountain with practices and racing until March. They get to race all over Colorado. Steamboat, Aspen, Copper Mountain, Loveland

Kids in our county only have school 4 days a week. Little longer days and a longer school year. Its pretty sweet.
And they get to go up to the mountain for a half day sking every Wednesday for practice.
They have a bus that takes the kids up every Friday starting next week for free skiing.

Snowboarded twice in 2024.

First time in nearly 25 years and happy to report I still got it...lol

Kid has been 6x so far this season and is shredding. We ended up getting him a season pass for under $400 and its already paid for itself and he will probably go as many times as he can score a ride.

Pretty nice being so close to Brianhead. 55 miles makes for a nice turn around trip and way less sketchy mountain driving vs the old bigbear days.

Headed to Utah on Wednesday. Looks like we are going to start at Alta on Thursday and go from there. Looking forward to 4 days of skiing. My wife has to work so it's just me and my 9 year old. Last season it got to the point I had trouble keeping up with him him so I'm looking forward to not having to pay for ski school.

I haven't skied much in the last 10 years, but was like you at one time. My closest ski buddy was here a few weeks back and we're going to meet up this season at a couple of different spots. He lives in Spokane and skis 49 Degrees North about 50 days a year. He's gonna kick my ass for sure. Looking forward to it!

Used to me on the mammoth ski team. Then quit that and got into offroading. Might head to Brian head this winter to see if I still got it.

@Cole Trickle how far is it?

I worked at Mary Jane / Winter Park the 1985-1987 seasons. Love that place. Heading back there for a week in January to celebrate my 60th, and also going to spend a week in Montana because that's where the snow is going this year.

Have planned Durango in February. Maybe Mammouth later in the season, then back to A-Basin for a couple of days.

I learned to ski at Sandia ski area in NM when I was about 8 or 9. Over 50 years of skiing now.

It’s our annual family trip
My FIL hosts all is kids and grandkids. In-Laws have been doing this for 30+ years.
We move between Copper, Breck and WinterPark. All depends on where we can get a condo that sleeps 20 people.

My bury-a-body buddy from high school twisted my arm real hard to go to Mammoth for his birthday in February. I went but hung out at the bar and did a snowmobile tour deal. I haven't skied in decades and was never very good. He is nearly pro level downhill slalom guy. Late in the season he convinced me to do a night session at Mt. High. I didn't die or fall, but my conditioning is not what it needs to be for safe stopping LOL
I'm sure he will want to go again.

Going to Snowbowl this weekend with my daughter, kills me to ski on a weekend though. I grew up in Tahoe and have a handful of 100 day seasons and tons of 50 plus day seasons in the past. I never thought I'd live more than 30 minutes from a ski area, but here I am in AZ. To the OP, Jackson Hole is well worth the trip, been a couple of times, great skiers there, rivals Squaw Valley for talent. I hope to get a long weekend in Tahoe this year.

I skiing for 3 hrs last yr @ brighton utah in march for the 1st time 20 yrs to the month. Haha
That was an expensive 3 hrs. Lift tickets were $160.00 ea plus rentals for 3 peeps. We had fun but damn has it gotten ridiculously expensive.
I used to be on Nat'l ski patrol @ Mt. Baldy for about 7yrs back in the late 80's, early 90's. and skiing most every weekend they were open. I still have my NSP vest, jackets, and equip. Relics now no doubt.
I don't really know why I just stopped skiing later in life, I guess my business and life took over.

Learned at Sandia Peak also. We lived in Sandia Park. Used to ride my dirt bike all over the East side of the mountain.

Went once years ago during the holidays. . . . waaaaay to many celeb u tards making more of a fashion statement and can't ski for shit.

Used to ski a bunch. Locally, I would only ski Baldy or Mt Waterman and only if the snow was good. Unfortunately, both resorts suffer from the best hill being at the lowest elevations, so the snow is marginal a ton. But when they are good, they were good as anywhere I skied. Loved those resorts. You're butt hanging through the broken chair lift seat from time to time, but no worries, Lol! Never cared much for Big Bear. Used to ski Mammoth a bunch and Tahoe was an annual trip that was always sort of a bummer for the effort to get there.

As to the OP getting to Jackson Hole, that was a bucket list deal for me as well. Had to see Corbett's. Nearly got trampled by a moose when cross hilling there. He was bedded down when I came through. I'm not sure who was more scared, but I was sure that I was going to get stomped on by 10 ft tall legs and never see the point of the trip, LOL! Day 1 the snow was marginal and I passed because the risk to reward was gnarly with the rocks. I was bummed. It then dumped 5 feet of snow and on day 4-5, it was on! We were so stoked to make that skinny little entry. 3 turns and it was done.

Post pics if you go. Old guys wanna re-live the good times.

Cool to see so many skiers here. Something I’ve been working to help promote is an off-road poker run type event in April that is put on by the USARC (United States Adaptive Recreation Center). The event is in its infancy and the proceeds go to fund the adaptive ski program in Big Bear.

If anyone is interested in being apart of this thing, let me know. I’m currently rounding up a group of cool people to be involved. @Riverbound mom got me involved with the group, it’s something I can absolutely get behind as I’ve always enjoyed both skiing and off-roading and getting people access who have limited access to those experiences is FUCKING AWESOME. 😂

If you want to save money on lift tickets, you gotta hit the small out of the way almost-locals-only places.

Utah has Brian Head (near Cedar City) and Eagle Point (near Beaver)
Colorado has Ski Sunlight in Glenwood Springs

Tickets are half to a third the price of the conglomerate resorts. Don't expect super modern lifts or lodges, some of these places are a time warp back in time.

I went to school in Glenwood Springs. We skied lots at Ski Sunlight in the early 1980's. My wife and I went by there last month when we were looking at property in the area. Sunlight still looks exactly the same as 40 years ago.

Been skiing Mammoth, four days so far.
I have a trip planned to Utah January 5th, We're gonna hit Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Solitude,Snowbasin and Deer Valley.
Then Feb 10-16 I'm gonna do Big Sky, MT with some snowmobiling mixed in.
March 3rd after the Oscars the crew and I are all headed up to Mammoth for the week.
I will most likely hit Mammoth for the rest of the season.

I'd really like to hit Palasades this year and on my bucket list is Whistler Blackcomb, someday...

Usually make it on the slopes about 5 - 7 days per season, used to go for annual family trip in early March, but that got bumped a couple years back by tennis/BNP Pariba Open (daughter is a ball kid...). thinking about trying to get to Mammoth next week after Christmas, but it's hella expensive; I'll throw out some lowball offers on condos and hope to score a last minute deal...

***and in other news, all the years of dragging the kids up mountain is finally paying off: 2nd season in a row that they're actually asking to go (🤯🤯🤯), and they're starting to make plans with their friends for some local trips. Daughter even said last week that she understands why we dragged them up all those years and made them learn...!!! Be patient folks, it's a long game!

Yeah if people are the skier type used to the high speed detachable lifts, the fixed grip lifts of old are an eye-opener. About rip you off your skis, no mercy. If you ain't ready you're gonna be featured in a Warren Miller gag reel.

I have both passes Epic and Icon - I will shoot to break even on them both this year. Usually I have 30-40 days on mountain but this year will not be the case. Boys are racing a ton and traveling (I handle race support for them). On a sad note my brother in law who lives to snowboard is losing his fight with cancer. I am having a hard time getting into it. I am going to shoot for a Park City, Aspen and hopefully a Whistler trip this season.

I grew up in Chino.
Baldy has the best terrain in SoCal IMO.
It only gets dumped on once every 10 damn years.
But when it does, you drop EVERYTHING to get there.
So, I hear ya.
Now I live in AZ and my skies are worthless.

Winter is my busy season so it’s mostly the local hill for us, China Peak. China Peak is one of the only resorts that offers RV camping on site. We try to go every other weekend if possible. Got about 20+ days in last season.

Brian Head and Sunlight are both on my skiing wish list! I love the old resorts that are more about the skiing and the snow conditions than the LAM crowds.

Can you ski Sunlight during the day then swim at Glenwood Springs afterwards?? That would be EPIC!!!

I've actually skied indoors in Tokyo.

To rent a car in Japan? I've never had to do that anywhere I've travelled.
^^^That's fantastic - what an experience.

Re: Intl driver's license. first time I've heard of it also, in any country. Unsure if it's rental company regulated or what... Seems like a fairly straightforward process - time is running out, need to get one this week!

I live in Park City and headed out soon for day 3 in a row. Im usually on the mountain everyday Im here for an hour or two, its the daily workout. Driving tomorrow to Telluride to spent a couple days with a friend. Never been there before. Living here its easy to just stay here. I can go backcountry skiing from my house and in bounds Park City has some good terrain. If you go out the back country gates in Park City off Peak 5 lift you can quickly access the places that have killed people over the last few years and is steeper and more dangerous than inbounds anywhere else. If I go anywhere else its around to the Cottonwoods or Snowbasin.

When we lived in Phoenix full time we would take friends who havent skied to Mt Lemmon. For around $70 at the time it included rentals, a few hours lesson and lift ticket. At almost 1000ft vertical it cant be beat. We had a lot of fun there but it has to have snow so late Jan early February is just right. I rarely went to Snowbowl, the whole culture thing there is entertaining to watch. Everyone is wearing jerseys, blasting rap on their bluetooth speaker and etc.. lol.. In PC the US ski and snowboard teams train here. Everyone is chill and respectful, no 'gangsta' culture in the X-game/Olympic athletes that Ive seen. Maybe a little at Woodward but they get humbled real fast by the locals. Brighton is a tad different but its where the pros go daily.

I got two days in last week at Mammoth, was pretty epic for this time of year, nobody was there. I will do some turns at Snow Summit this year as well, but also looking to add a quick trip with friends to Brian Head and other Utah resorts (there will be another trip to mammoth in the Spring time). My goals are pretty simple at this point, ski more days than last year. I used to ski over 25 days a year, but that was 30 years or more years ago.

We're headed to Haikkado, Japan in January for some boarding.

We tried to go last Jan but had to cancel. Second attempt - we have hotels and plane tickets - need to get an international driver's license.
My business partner is headed to Japan in January too. Looking forward to hearing how it is. Apparently there are a lot of ski areas in Japan, not just up north.

The couple we are meeting there went on the original trip, which we were supposed to be on early 2024. They loved it, hence they are now going back again this year. So, it will be nice to be with some experienced travelers in that specific area.

Additionally, like when we went to Italy to go boarding - we will hire a guide. In a foreign country, this is money well spent. They will show you places you most likely won't find on your own, and will save you both in time and in avoiding disappointment. That is to say, you get a "good" guide!

I'm considering a Japan ski trip. My plan is for March, so I can do Dodgers opening day in Tokyo and the ICON pass works at one of the resorts. The reason for the international drivers license is one of the popular attractions in Tokyo. The attraction is driving Go Karts dressed as Mario Kart characters thru Downtown Tokyo.

I heard they have the best snow in the world.
