Who’s got an outdoor shed?

I am gonna have a shed landed next to my house. There is a ton of manufacturers building these things. What ones are you guys happy with, not happy with, etc. By the looks of things, they are cheaply built with cheap materials, kinda like an Rv.

If you have the time or someone to do it. You can build a much better one for the price most of these costs. @BHC Vic used to build them on the side years ago.

I bought one through Costco a couple years ago. They have a company come out and build it on site. It was a pretty solid product.

My 16x10 was $3200 I think
And I just got a price for a 24x12 and it was $7000 and change I believe.

I had a slab poured with stem walls and framed it myself. 16" OC walls, 24" OC Rafters. I don't think the ones from Home Depot or Lowes will hold up very well to your snow load? Mine is 8x17, $3600 including the slab, comp roof and paint. Couple of weekends to build.

Find out What your local regulations on what’s the biggest you can build without a permit. Yucaipa was 120 ft.² without permits. Anything above that you had to get one.

Stick built my own. Elevated on stacked, solid 4" conc. block. Built the floor structure like a deck using all treated 6x6's for beams with 2x8 floor joists and t&g 3/4" plywood subfloor. Every piece was mechanically secured with straps and hangers. Walls were 2x4 @ 16" OC with Hardi panel siding over 1/2" sheathing. Roof was 2x6 stick framed rafters with 5/8" plywood deck.

Built my own. Max footprint and height per the city. Has an attic and two seperate rooms. Cleared my garage out nicely.

Thanks for the replies fellers. I’ve considered building my own, and I’m sure I’d double or triple the price of one of the cheapie tuff shed ones. I’ve been shopping them online, they’re all 2x4 24” on center walls, and 2x4 16” on center floors. If Iwas to build one the correct way, I’d be happier. I’m struggling with the idea in building one, because my penchant for perfection paralysis will set in, and it’ll never get started. So if I go the cheap route, is any of them better that the others, and those that have done the prefab route, is there any thing to keep an eye out for?

I did a Tuff Shed 10X12 studio as an office and I've been pretty happy with it. It really came in handy this year with Covid. You can absolutely build your own cheaper, but you are just paying for the convenience obviously. I did a couple changes to the basic design and they didn't charge me for them.

Honestly, with how much wood has gone up and the cost of labor having it done I would go this route. Also, you could have it customized to whatever needs you have. Everything from size, windows to doors. They cost a little bit more but it will be with you for a long time and if you move you could take a with you. Try doing that with the wood shed. Secure and weatherproof too. I’ve seen him where people dig down about 3 feet and install them. The earth keeps them cool and they’re not a huge eyesore. This company makes him look pretty decent too. They’re in Hesperia.

How big do you want it? I have a 10x12 I believe it is, that I am thinking of getting rid of.. It wouldn't take much to just flat bed it and transport it. It's pretty nice / wood construction / windows / double vented roof etc.. I paid around 5K for it if I remember right.

A friend just bought a plastic shed from Home Depot and I helped assemble, we’re not friends anymore what a pile! Can’t hit it with a hammer when you get pissed either because it leaves holes

If your just going to use it for storage, call depot - tuff shed And be done with it! Otherwise you’ll have 3 weekends wasted away and it will still need to be painted!

The last couple sheds I've done I've built myself....materials were a bit less expensive 10 years ago, but for something like a 12x10...which is the largest that the city of LB will allow me to build without a permit...we're looking at

11 sheets of T111 @30 each
60ish 8' 2x4s @$6 each
a door.

$700 in lumber...

Then either pour a slab (which you'll have to do if you buy a shed) or put piers an add another $300 to the lumber cost, and spend a day cutting and putting it together and a day painting...then put $300 worth of felt paper and shingles on it.

Plus whatever your door costs you.

As per the shedworld website: an 8’x15’ delivered and assembled for $3100. That’s no options. If is was to try to build this exact same thing, I’d end up at $10,000. And, it would be an eyesore that would take two months to finish. Or I’d pay a contractor to build it, and pay $10,000 but have it done, and be a far better shed. Both sheds will do the same thing. Store shit. I am definitely the champagne taste on beer budget kind of guy. As it would seem, all the prefab deals are very similar. The custom ones you guys are building are far nicer, and much longer lasting. I don’t think I’m gonna out live this house, let alone stay in California.
