Some of it goes into groundwater replenishment ponds near Palm Springs and the rest goes into the Salton Sea.

Before approaching Palm Springs, the Whitewater River is fed imported water from the Colorado River Aqueduct, managed by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. It is the main source of water for the greater Palm Springs area.

At least thats what the internet says...

All of it goes to the recharge basins, it is how the Coachella Valley Water District receives their State Water Project allotment.
The ponds are between windy point and the windmills along 111.
