We are going to purchase either a Lance 1172, Host Mammoth or the Eagle Cap 1200. I have been told by several people who may (or may not know) think the best truck for these is the F350 6.7 diesel. I have also been told that the F550 is the best way to go with the same engine package. I would love to get your (Ford's) input.

The only camper I am familiar with on your list is the Lance, which is a MONSTER. If my memory serves me right, the max weight of it, wet weight, is in the 4,500-4,700 lbs range. A F350 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW is gonna have a GVWR of 14k and will weight in about 8,000 lbs full of fuel. This would give you roughly 6,000 lbs of payload, which will be plenty for the Lance 1172 camper. Assuming you will be towing also, so you need to subtract the tongue weight also.

Feel free to give me a call to discuss further.

Thank you Bobby. I appreciate the input. Is the F550 the better option since we are going to be towing as well?

When it comes time for the purchase, I will come to you for pricing.

100% NO, I do NOT recommend the F550 for this application.

Okay sounds good, appreciate the support. Just keep in mind that we are pretty much placing orders only right now and F-Series are taking upwards of 12-16 weeks from order to delivery.

Excellent. That answers that. LOL. Please let me know when you are expecting shipments in for these models. Probably looking at the end of 2022.

Sorry for the vague answer, but I was walking out. There are more negatives on the F550 than positives for your application. The F550 is more for hauling than towing, reason for the 19,500 lbs GVWR over the 14,000 on the F350/F450 pickup. The HP/TRQ rating is lower on the Chassis Cabs and with the 4:88 gears the MPG's will not be the best either. You'd also need to spend some additional money adding some sort of bed to accommodate the camper. Honestly the F350 will work perfectly for you. You will need to add air bags, which is pretty common when adding a slide-in camper.

* The GCWR of the 2022 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW is 43,400 lbs. with the 4:10 gears.

* The Conventional towing capacity of the 2022 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 DRW is 21,200 lbs.

Please let me know when you are expecting shipments in for these models. Probably looking at the end of 2022.
As I have been telling everyone I talk to, order NOW if you want to see a truck within 3-4 months. It doesn't look like it's gonna get an better anytime soon as most the truck coming in right now are ones that were ordered 3-4 months ago. For the last several months all we have been doing is placing orders for sold units, in which even with our pretty decent allocation we have not been able to fill all the orders and have "extras" for stock.

Pops just sold his 19 F350 with air bags and 30k hitch a couple weeks back only had 4K miles. They loved it with the Lance and towed a flat bed with his RZR or a Bronco. Bobby set them up, and they nothing but good things to say about the whole process.[emoji1303]
