Nacho's Taco Shop. My Mom who is probably a lot cooler and in better shape than me lives in San Marcos. I've been telling her that "these guys on one of my boating sites" really recommend a taco place near you and you should check it out. She's been twice now, once to check it out and twice to give it a second chance. She said it ain't great. Her exact words were, it was blah.🤷‍♂️ She sent me a few pics.

Tacos Alex on mission cross street is Pico
Very little parking out front but a big dirt lot out back walk past the family’s house if you park out back
It’s small crowded during lunch no Ac I eat outside on a bench like in grade school from the 70s
It’s a family hole in the wall with a limited menu tacos and burritos but a good selection of meats

Ah crap. A little RDP search revealed it was the Big Kahuna who recommended it. I'm screwed..

Grads, your Mom needs to post her favorite spots, just to be fair..
A little too late to ask her tonight but I will text her tomorrow. She eats out quite a bit in the area.

@Gelcoater what is the place a few blocks down from Elim? When I was there trying to buy a bote they sent me there for lunch. Down road turn left I think!?

Now this clown is trolling Dave and he’s still continuously allowed back on the site LMAO
Grads is ok, when he stays in his lane...

When he needs a vacation, the mods give him one.

Absolutely not trolling. I recommended this place to my Mom. I'm just telling her experience and asking if she ordered the wrong thing.

I'd also like to add my Mom is a very hip 76 years old. I might get her to join RDP.🤣
My wife and I were there yesterday afternoon, as it's our go to for Mex, although can't comment on their choice, never tried either.
Didn't see any gringos my age in the place while we were there, especially one wearing a " I'm Grads mom " shirt. 😁
Always open for trying a new place, and not like there's any shortage of them in the area. We do enjoy Mex chow, so when she reveals her favorite, please post it up.

Everyones taste buds are different.
My favorite in North county are the José's locations.

Jose’s Taco is just across Mission Blvd, been there decades now.
South East down Mission a couple blocks is Zorba Burger, a greasy spoon ma and pa joint, Mexican and American food.
They have a decent Pastrami.

that place is close to work and I pass by there every day on my way to and from. Never stopped but it’s always packed. Need to try.

I’m running out to CA tomorrow to help Dave’s mom with some things. I told Dave I can’t wait to get to Nacho’s. Their beans are excellent and their carne asada burritos are the best. Their chips and salsa also very yummy.

Did you ever go to Jose's at College & Faraday?
Their recipes are my favorites, nobody makes a Pollo Asado like theirs.

We might need to get better food critics than the RDPers.
She said she likes Miguel's and Casa De Bandini in Carlsbad but said these were a little nicer sit down joints. She also said she likes German Seafood Food Truck on Linda Vista near Grand Ave. because they have good fish tacos. And I guess there are two other food trucks at that location that are good. She also recommended the surf and turf burrito at Senor Poncho's. Also Los Cabos Mexican food. She wanted me to tell RiverDave that his taste buds sux.😜🤣

One more thing, and she's a SoCal homer, she said SoCal Mexican food doesn't hold a candle to NorCal Mexican food.🤷‍♂️

Grads you just compared sit down nice restaurants with a taco shop..

That said tell her to go back and order these things..

Chips and salsa (comes with the sweet salsa)

Carne asada burrito get extra of the sweet salsa if she doesn’t like hot sauce or the regular hot sauce is what I prefer.

Just the good old nachos with their cheese and beans and then cover with the sweet salsa.. (in lieu of chips and salsa If they are looking to share)

I like to vary a bit and sometimes get the enchiladas. They have a very different flavor than most.

If she’s a chicken person the train looking taco shop pollo asada burrito set is the goto

I still stand by nothing compares to nachos carne asada burritos though.

When is the last time you went to MX? And I’m sorry to say but sand Diego in particular north county is known for the best food (in particular mex) around..

RD

It's been a Very long time. Acapulco I think?

And I'll put the Real messican restruants in Compton against anything SD puts out. They don't even speak English at the places up here!

I have to go with someone who speaks the language. 😜

I just realized that was in there. 🤦‍♂️ I need two new hips, the first one is December 17th. After what I went through a few years ago, a hip replacement is like general maintenance.🤣
My step dad is getting a knee a week sooner. He already got his bionic hips.😂

According to my father inlaw, the knees sucked Way worse than the hips.

Taco El unico was my go to in Compton for years. 25 years ago worked with a guy that turned me onto that place. Going there at 2 am after the bars closed with a few White Girls was always fun Lol.

If I want Taco Loco it's best to have one of my Guys go grab it. It's always better. Last time I went in they served me after everyone else and I arrived before all of them.

I eat Mexican food probably 4-5 days a week.

Not to derail this thread but I’m looking forward to a new hip. I walked/jogged almost every day of my adult life. I walked 1600 miles last year to almost none this year and it’s killing me. I’m so ready to go bionic.

Have her pick up a pint or three of the Chip (Sweet) Salsa, we always bring one home,
