Went to the HD and Lowes to price 3 new entry doors. I have a ranch style house with a 36”, 32”, and 30” all 80” tall that all face the front of the house. Nearly impossible to get them to match with same glass but even with similar glass/door combo it came out to almost 12k at both spots. Considered Ganahl but assuming that’s going to be even more. Any ideas? Looking for a wood looking finish on a fiberglass door. Both spots were selling therma Tru doors.

Therma-Tru are made by TM Cobb likely in Temecula if you local to So Cal.

They are expensive but you can get composite Jambs and new for last year was an actual fiberglass core so check into that also. It's as close to a lifetime door as you can get IMO.

Are they worth the current "Grab all the money you can" environment? That's your call. They are all expensive currently.

California has allot to do with the cost of doors and windows produced in this state because of wage increases, 7 days paid sick leave, and other newer business requirements.

To bad you don't just need a 36. They have them on clearance at Lowes for $279. Therma Tru fiberglass prefinished with nice glass and composite jambs. Normally $700. I bought several other ones in the last week for great deals.

Crenshaw lumber. Ganahl. One stop doors and windows. Five points. Cooks. Are the local Southbay spots.

Just bought a new entry Therma Tru 3/4 light from Lowe’s last week. They are expensive . Bought a prehung. Fiberglass wood grain look. Well made. All other places are expensive also. I’m going to install it myself

Any recommendations for a cold weather exterior door? Do they come insulated? Can I just buy the door and hang it on the existing jamb?

The fiberglass ones are insulated I believe. You can buy only the door or prehung. You will need someone to route out the hinges to match yours or order it prehung. I ordered it prehung but may just hang it on the existing jambs and route the jamb and patch it. I don’t want to screw with my stucco outside. Never blends well. Talk to a salesman at Ganahl lumber about it. They are pretty sharp

Glass places usually can point you to a door maker. We have had doors made in Riverside for the Corona house, and in Redlands for our house out here. Doors of Distinction in Riverside I believe was the name.

that has got to be price installed. even if it is, holy ****!!! just a regular insulated door with glass x's 3 at those sizes? no side lites, transoms, dog doors, cat doors, mail slots, tinted glass, or entrances to parallel universes?

No, that is not installed. I grew up doing carpentry and still do all my own. I enjoy finish work so I was thinking of build some but don’t want to deal with restaining every few years so I decided to price fiberglass. Yes- about 4K a door pre hung with some nice glass and a textured wood appearance finish.

If I go by lowes tomorrow I will get a pic. Brown finish. Maybe you can search the model number and match the other 2 to it. For $279 hard to beat. They had 3 Right hand 36". Was going to grab 1 myself and throw it in my storage.

Second for James Hardware. A few years back we did new front and back doors. Ordered both from Lowes. Took forever and finally the front door came in. There was always an issue or an excuse with the back door. Canceled the back door order and ordered another at James Hardware. It came in a little early and is twice the quality of the front. It was also more $$ but well worth it and I wish I would have bought both there.

Not sure where you are located, but you could try Moldings Plus in Ontario.

Thermatru is probably the best fiberglass door on the market. PlastPro by American Building supply is also a good brand. I recommend them to all my mountain clients. Doors aren't cheap anymore. I've priced out "book doors" as expensive as $1800 before getting them prehung. Definitely buy from a shop that specializes in doors. HD and Lowe's are going to give you garbage jambs. I usually use Redlands Door and supply or RBI on the mountain.

Made it by lowes tonight and grabbed one of those doors. My Buddy was working so I picked his brain for you and had him check the options. The problem is the 30" from Thermatru-TmCobb.

He could get me a matching 32 for $1700. But the 30 could not get with a window or matching color. He has other wood door options or ABS. But I told him you wanted fiberglass. Door I grabbed if ordered was like $2200. Average was $2800 for the Prefinished fiberglass with composite jambs. He said he could beat any price if I put in the order.

This is the tag on the one I got. They have 2 more. They have a left hand but wasn't on clearance yet. If you chose a 30 with no windows and color matched the stain and painted it. Be around $2500 for the 3.

That is great info! I’ve gotten a few leads in following up on. I’m ending up doing a lot more research and shopping around then I ever thought.

Yeah. Both my Local Lowes have good millwork guys. I can text them for quotes and orders. Lately they are super competitive. If price matching he can get me at 3% over invoice. Bid another job for a member here. Not sure how they got someone to beat my price. But my guess is they will get killed on change orders.

The one ADU I mentioned having inspection on today. 2 days before the low bid was supposed to start they tried to change order for 60K. Now I am back handling it.

At Lowes now waiting for them to pull my order. They still got 2. Few other doors on clearance as well for less than half price if anyone in the Southbay is in need.
