So after dealing with a death in the family and splitting up with the gf. I am ready too get away for about a week. Any good ideas on where too go? I have enough southwest points to get a round trip pretty much anywhere they fly.

Looks like they fly to Costa Rica. I’d probably go there.

Edit: Missed the death piece and skipped right to the end of the relationship. Sorry for your loss YB.

I heard SW is flying to Hawaii starting in 2019. ;)

"The first Southwest Hawaii flight to Honolulu took place on February 5, 2019, from Oakland."

Sounds like you made the right choice on ditching the chick.

So many options - do you want NYC or a Hawaiian beach ?

Beach you could sit and think about it...

NYC - you would be seeing and explore not thinking of current history...

Be careful using points on SWA for international trips. You still have to pay the 'taxes and fees' which can be super high for international. We have taken SWA to Mexico City twice, once paid $, once used points. I didn't really pay close attention when using points and in hindsight should have just paid $ and kept the points.

Edit...By the way. I LOVE Mexico City. Awesome food, great sights (museums, pyramids, etc). My wife vowed to NEVER go back. The smog burned her eyes and she is not an adventurous eater.

are you sure it was the smog burning her eyes , and not you sharing the residual effects of the beans and hot sauce?

Very possible. I did find a 'favorite' restroom stall at the Four Seasons.

Went too Mexico city twice, it will be a cold day in hell before I go back. I have too April 1st too use the points or lose them. Funny thing as soon as I dumped the ex, I felt a great weight off my shoulders. I know she is a member here( joined too see why I liked it) and will most likely read this so I won't go into detail.

One of my coworkers works 7 days on and 7 days off. One his last night of work he catches a flight to Costa Rica. He rents his Long Beach condo out on BnB and enjoys his time in CR. Since he has been doing this trip for a few years he ended up meeting a beautiful woman over there and eventually got married. She still has a house there and they return often.

They have not gotten up and running full time here yet. They have done the FAA required test flights with empty planes late week. They should be up and running soon. They say that the government shout down has delayed the start up. Keep in mind that they are just starting with flights over the pacific so they may not have the certified aircraft and staffing up to speed so delays can move up to cancellations.

FYI...You can use your SWA points to fly any airline anywhere in the world. Also hotels, cruises, rental cars, etc.

I used some a couple years ago to fly Cathay Pacific to Thailand, even went business class.

If you have the time to swing it, Thailand would be #1 on my list. Forget about going to Bangkok or Phukett. There's tons of other great places to and see. Aio Nang area is spectacular. You need at least 10 days to 2 weeks to settle in because it's so far.
For a beach trip that's not too far and not too expensive - Puerto Valarta is hard to beat. Stay downtown if you want restraunts bars etc. Stay in Nuevo if you want to kick back - and SW goes there.
We go twice a year.

I fly SWA all the time, my wife is my companion pass holder...and I never knew this. Planning a trip to Tahiti in 2020, this is going to save us some $$$.

Thanks.

We just returned from Belize last night. Ambergris Cay is pretty damn fun. Golf carts are the main transportation, warm breezes, clear water, and so many bars and restaurants you could never eat at them all. Personally, I recommend the Painkillers! LOL

For the last 4 years we have gone to Cancun for 10 days at the RIU Palace Las Americas. All inclusive adults only sweet place. See my Tripadvisor reviews (RetiredIBEW) on the Palace. If you are looking for a younger crowd the RIU Cancun is next door where kids are allowed and has a night club on property that's also all inclusive.

Unfortunately companion pass doesn’t work for that. Both my wife and I haves companion pass so I wish it worked that way.

You exchange point for dollars to fly a different airlines.

Companion pass...Awesome!! Almost got it two years ago, but then had to use Delta a bunch. My brother in law has had a companion pass for a few years, so his wife goes on most of his trip with him (thinking about that, maybe it's not so great). Actually, they usually go on last minute cruise deals so they can get to Texas, Miami, Seattle, etc. really cheap.

Lol got it. Shit ton of points noted, like when I dropped 1 million SWA points to fly to Thailand and still have 1 million left. [emoji43] I should own some of SWA by now as much as I fly with them.

Lol....we were with the Mandelon's and Belize is a blast. Even got to meet some of the local law enforcement folks. Painkillers are the best!

....and we both flew on Southwest to Belize with no problems.
