Mine makes a terrible grinding sound and smells. Need a new one to finish our holiday weekend. Is there any shops or anyone have one lying around. Super appreciate any help. Thanks!

Sorry I don't know of one for sale.

But if you're in SoCal and you end up needing to rebuild yours after this weekend I know of a shop in Garden Grove that rebuilt my SBC marine starter. They also rebuilt the original window motor in my Chevelle. Good luck.

Alternator Specialties @ 1944 Acoma is the guy for rebuilding or exchanging starters, but won't be open till Monday. I'm thinking your only possible choice is the usual Auto Zone, O Reilly's.

They’re open on Monday. Labor Day?

Tomorrow is Sunday and most auto parts places are usually open sundays. Labor Day might be limited hours or closed, but cars always need parts so it would be odd to be totally closed.

There is an auto parts in Parker just below the main intersection next to bad attitude. I’ve gotten odd parts there like NGK 2 stroke plugs etc.

Napa on Arizona just below 95

Ended up just grabbing an autozone git r done marine special and I have a sierra replacement from amazon on the way long term. West marine wanted a crazy amount.
Welp tried to put it in but diameter was incorrect so wouldn’t go in the hole. Back to square one.

I was referring to the post about Alternator Specialties. Not the auto parts stores. 😉

I’m heading out early-ish tomorrow. Prob 8

If someone in the IE (Corona / riverside) has one I can bring it out. I’ll be up for a couple of hrs.

See if you can get a # to connelly marine. I'll bet he has either style you might need..you'll need a hook up # tho for tomorrow most likely.
Maybe Barry @obnoxious001 has one you can use or knows where to get 1.

Pretty sure BBC & SBC are interchangeable but there are diff bolt patterns and styles. The large diameter with the bendix support cone and the smaller style with just an exposed bendix..

Assuming you have a Mercruiser small block (though I’m not sure of your engine year, serial number and OEM starter part number, etc., for definite) but thinking you may have Merc part number 50-863007A1 in which would be 18-5913-1 in the Sierra Marine aftermarket, if so then NAPA auto in Lake Havasu online suggests calling them for certain availability on some and pick up tomorrow on other starter types.

If you know your OEM part number, run it in both Marine Engine.com linked below to look for the Sierra aftermarket part number in which would be marine compliant for safety vs an auto starter ‘then run either the OEM number or Sierra number in the search bar at NAPA to see if they have a better match up.

Find your engine manufacturer, year, starter part number to see the list of options then check NAPA.

I sort of doubt Parker Auto Parts is open today, but pretty good chance they have a Sierra. I may be able to text one of the employees and pull a favor.

Spanky's should be open, and may have one, but it will cost more.

Apparently the owner figured there was money to be made on Labor Day weekend since people will still want to run their boats tomorrow. Nice that you were able to catch them.
Yup that’s us. The starter bendix I think stuck and it revved to the moon once the motor started. Smelled something funny and the next crank was barely able to start. Labor Day saved.

Also I used our dinghy to tow this boat to the springs that broke. Halfway there I heard the radio booming and the girls were twerking on the rear hatch the whole way there. Was a great time. Lol.
