Idk know what you sold it for. But I got a low number in my head. How do you let it fill with water while on a loan?
Pretty sure you start with not giving a fuck and then you realize you were out of fucks to give in the first place.

Honestly it was just a mistake.. he thought he had weather proofed it.. but the cover isn’t 100% water proof. With all the crazy rains we had the last two years it just filled it up

To me it’s worth about 35 as it sits.. I sold it for 55 plus commission so about 60 total.

I believe the loan balance is in the low 50’s.

Either way.. I would have gone as high as 45 Just for sentimental reasons.. I figured 15 for interior another 12-14’ish for the floor and bulkhead carpet etc.. then another 7 for hydraulic steering then drop in ilmor 635 and be done.. 4/5 on redoing the trailer paint.

$35k is generous in my mind!

When a friend and I were doing side work on boats in Seattle if I pulled in and saw the bow down on the trailer I was pretty certain I would turn down the job.

Well, that’s actually good to hear. Mistakes like that happen, but you still have to put in a little effort every now and then. I’ve seen a few really nice boats go to shit, as you have I’m sure as well. Sucks.
Had a Caliber 1 that a buddy of mine and I brought back from the dead. This is when I was dabbling in custom boat interiors and I redid this one top shelf. Saw it for sale a couple years after we sold it and it was absolutely hammered. Thought about buying it back, but F that. Then it came up in So Cal a couple years after that as being abandoned and we still owned the trailer.

I'm super close with my dad, I couldn't imagine selling one of his prise vehicles. Seeing the 21 the way it is tough even for me to see, granted I don't have any vested interest in this particular boat but knowing the fact that it's a family makes it sting

So seller has to get payoff, or come up w/the difference, or meet the collections/foreclosure people from the lender. Why was the plug in it while it was sitting outside? Can understand dropping $55 large then not using/caring about it. Seller might not care if they come get the boat, but when the lender goes after any other assets they have, and this destroys their credit score, they’ll care. I agree, $35 is stronge

Buddy lost his boat the same way. Filled up with water with the plug in due to rain. Insurance company totaled it.

Isn’t this the same boat that there are pictures of it with the cover blown off from the wind? I could be mistaken, but I thought you had reached out to him at that point to buy it? Wouldn’t that be a pretty big indicator that it wasn’t being stored properly?

Problem with financing toys is a lot of people only view it as a couple hundred a month vs. it’s entire value. What a shame.

It’s a 20 year old boat. If it was used all those years, it would look the same or worse.

…Bow up…drain plugs out…but then again all boats are not constructed the same???…

…My sister gave me an Omega daycrusier…same deal…was not stored properly…I ended up having to replace all three stringers…the floor and and most of the transom…Was a shit ton of work…but with West Systems epoxy it came out great👍…oh yeah…then there was the big fire…Oh well???…

I swear I heard the guy say “Oil is coming out the drain plug.” Wonder if it rusted out the oil pan or something. That part sounded bad.

I might be a weirdo but if my boat isn’t in the water it doesn’t have a drain plug in it. And every boat I’ve owned has been stored indoors. 😂

He is just selling the boat. He isn’t late on payments or anything to my knowledge

A member bought a boat from one of my family members that id love to have but would not pay what anyone would ask for it because i saw how it was treated.

And storage geez. When i sold my last performance boat the buyer was shocked that it was kept indoors and covered. I was like how else would i store it?

Curious why it would need new floors/stringers/etc….I have to assume that Shiada is at the top of the spectrum as far as build quality and rigging…would not all of the wood be fully encapsulated by fiberglass and all the holes sealed?

Fiberglass by itself is not waterproof, it will absorb water. A hull needs gelcoat to make it waterproof. Schiada uses a lot of gelcoat inside but not everywhere. If it was full of water for 6 months, water will have found a way into the wood through, the glass, a joint, a bolt hole, a limber hole, etc. Once it is there, it is there for good due to it being encapsulated. Can't dry out. Even if it feels solid, rot has already started. Would be a nope for me unless I intended to rebuild it.

Fiberglassed drain holes here...... One of the many reasons this project is taking me so damn long. 🤣👍

Yep...that's how I did all mine when I replaced my transom. I made a "syringe" out of a couple pieces of PVC pipe and some tape (for the plunger seal)...overdrilled all the holes, filled with thickened epoxy, then redrilled leaving no exposed wood. Figured the boat could live on the bottom of the lake for a few years and get pulled out with all perfect wood. Hope I don't have to test that theory.

After years of struggling (racing) with polyester....Epoxy is such is pleasure to work with. Way more pot life. I'll never go back to polyester unless it needs gel stuck to it.

Vinylester for the win. Better properties than poly, minus the higher cost of epoxy. 👍

This hull was built as a v drive so under the floors was completely finished and gelled..

That said you fill one up inside out.. there’s always that screw that penetrates or something that isn’t going to be 100% sealed..

The way the Schiada seat brackets are mounted is they run stainless screws through the floor that secure a billet plate with studs that come up. The seat sits on L brackets that then go over those studs and are secured with wing nuts. That’s how you are a let to move them forward / backward and reverse them etc..

The passenger billet foot rest was put in the same way. I believe the throttle cable transfers through the stringer once..

Mine had really thick carpet on the floor and in the ski locker etc.. once that soaks up all the water that’s a pretty rough environment I don’t care how well ya sealed it.

The front bill head would be questionable.. stringers might be ok, but I know that floor and interior are coming out and getting replaced.

The transom has about 50 entry points.. I’d hope they’d all be good, but let’s face it.. exhaust tips aren’t sealed from the inside they are sealed from the outside, along with most the other shit.. factor in it has a Birds Eye maple transom veneer.. if water got in it you are talking cubic dollars Jist to get back to square one.

Sad to see for sure. Just another reason that once it’s sold and not yours. Got to try and wipe it from your memory. I wouldn’t want to know what once was is now what is. Is all I’m sayin.
You got your money for it. What they do with it is now their business. As sad as that might be.

What about the jet bötè that was on the bottom of Powell for 30+ years. Tahiti was it? If anything had transom and stringer rot, that yellow submarine would have had it, no?
I guess time will tell.

This right here is proof of the morons that walk amongst us.
Isn’t it a 20 year old boat? This boat was nothing special, other than it was RD’s family boat, and there’s a 2 year waiting list to get another one made.

If I remember correctly, RD was unhappy with the condition of the boat before he sold it, and had it touched up. How much work did the motor have? I want to say I remember it being a small block Mercruiser? With an Alpha 2 drive?

B) Did i see the tip of an outdrive in the video? Not a V-drive?
