That was always an interesting quote to me.

I’d say 90% of the promotions of people I have seen in my corporate work were not actually promotions but simply recognition of title and pay for the job that someone was already delivering results on.

Put more simply, good people try to hire better people so their time can be freed up to deliver results that end up in promotions and additional pay.

I love it.

When I got laud off last from qlogic, I handled all the adapters for Hp, Lenovo, IBM and all the smaller companies. And I always had some time to screw around some. So I get laid-off. They split my workload among 4 people. They quit after 3 weeks cause they never got home before 11 at night. I worked from 9 to 6 and handled all my stuff, setting up new test machines and a bunch of other shit.

My Direct boss said he knew that they would quit as they had no work ethic and they didn't know their ass from a whole in the ground. He tried like hell for me to not be in the layoffs.
