Suburban wheels look horrible. The clear is peeling and looks pretty bad. It’s been sitting in the garage with a nuked tranny so I hadn’t really thought about it. Just picked it up yesterday and I figured the wife would be happy I dropped the 4500 to fix it but instead I got asked if I could take care of the wheels this week. She’s happy and I’m just kidding but I really do want to get them fixed. She said she wants them black which I’m not sure will look right, but it’s her car so whatever. So what’s better? wrap them or have them powder coated? Second question is where can I have either of these done near Norco. Of course I don’t want to break the bank on something we don’t drive a lot but I don’t want something cheap I’ll have to redo too soon either. This thing will probably drive to the lake house and tow the trailer till I end up getting a new truck one day. Other than that it sits in the garage and my wife drives her Prius. She already complained about filling the gas tank up today and she was using my card 😂😂

powder coat should be your only option for this. if your unsure about the color, pick up a can of plasti dip and try it. powder coat is the correct way.

Normally some pretty harsh brake dust removing chemicals are used on wheels. Heat from brakes etc. No way in hell a vinyl wrap would last. Powder coat 100%.

I had 2 sets of wheels powder coated in Phoenix a few years ago. It was $500 per set of wheels which included demounting the tires, cleaning up minor curb rash, powder coat, and remounting and balancing the tires. It sounds like costs are similar in socal. The powder coat has held up well.

Sweet. Thanks that’s pretty much what I thought but just to make the wife happy I figured I’d ask. I’ll look into the jurupa shop that’s not far at all.

Just a heads up, I plasti dipped some wheels black just to see how they would look. I wasnt sure, but left it on for about 3 months. I ended up not liking the plasti dip at all, or the color (just black)...and it was a royal B to peel off. It all came off in tiny pieces. I ended up having to re-coat the wheels with plasti dip again with a thick coat, to get it all to peel off better. Was a hassle, and not worth it.

If you are just wanting the factory wheels black, there are wheel covers that actually look pretty decent for pretty reasonable. My granddaughter got some to black out the wheels on a black Equinox she bought little while back. Being honest, when she told me about it I gave her a bit of a hard time, lol, but after seeing them, it actually didn't look too bad. I don't recall what she paid, seems like couple hundred bucks maybe? Don't have any pics, but pretty sure this is what they are:

There’s a powder coating shop neer the DMV in Norco. It’s practically right next door. I purchased a new set of wheels for the wife’s Tahoe for $950. Might be easier to replace them

Good luck with that.
Better not let her find out how much you paid to fix the transmission if she thinks $600 is to much for powder coat.
It’s because it’s for her. 400 on my sons baseball bat, no problem. New enclosure for the geese, spend it. She didn’t want me to fix the transmission but it makes no sense to have it sitting in the garage broken and I need it to launch the boat and tow the trailer. The transmission took place of our anniversary trip to Mexico. Shitty we missed it for our anniversary but I’m going to try to pull off the trip in November. We had a really good time last year, like second honeymoon type deal for our 10 year.

yeah high-heat and multiple heat-cycles make the plasti-dip brittle and a PITA to remove

Hold on did your wife call you bro?
Yea, I call her bro too. Her name in my phone is cougar. My wife and I are best friends and we joke around with each other like best friends. It just works for our marriage. It’s actually the best it’s ever been. It took a haircut call out but my wife and I have had a really good thing going on the last few years and I hope it never changes.

Looks good on white. Ours is silver I’m kind of nervous. I think she thinks she’s paying for the rims too which is probably part of her thinking but I had set aside 5k for the transmission and I have money in my umpire envelope so she won’t have to pay.

It will look good in silver. I want to wrap or paint the last pillar between the windows black like the pics below. I saw it done on another suburban it looked really good imo. My wife doesn’t care, I’m still waiting for her to find out I installed a train horn 😆😆 with the viair compressor and tank I used to bypass the factory “self adjusting” air ride

I have the same rims on my Silverado and have the clear peeling. I checked with Jason’s wheel repair over here in Chino and he quoted I think about $500 for the black PC. This was last year. I just wasn’t on board with the black. I asked about stripping them and coating with clear but he didn’t recommend that. He said the best option was PC.
His shop is off Central and G street. Cool dude. Even offered to put spare wheels on my truck because it was going to take a couple of days.

Go to Tire Rack's website Vic, you can see what new rims look like on your vehicle before you spend the money.

Easy way to let her pick or give you the thumbs up to do it.

Maybe I'm just old, but the original finish on those wheels looks great. Years ago, I had black powder coated wheels on my Dodge truck, and they looked fine on THAT truck at that time. I have to be honest though, black wheels seem to be a little played out, but that's just me. When I did mine, I paid $50 each wheel. I'd just pay to pull the tires, drop a wheel or two off at the powdercoater, wait a week, then pick them up and slap the tires back on. The shop was in Mentone and the work looked really good. I don't know what the prices are like these days though.
