Thats low, same for Monday.
LOL I’m open to learn, but the Phx news just said it’s because they are expecting an overwhelming amount of water into mead. Makes zero sense 🤡

The water in the Keys has been high but zero current since Thursday. Lots of weeds in the water.

I was wondering how the Keys would be affected. So the dam is not releasing so the water level is not low but new water is not flowing in? Interesting…

It would be hard to launch the jet at our old place at that flow. Weird it’s happening all weekend in August.

Read that the farmers didn't order water, anticipating rain. Also read that the water people want the river low to keep storm runoff within the banks.

Yup…basically a trickle below the head gate dam.

Half unit? Before the storm hits, good time to do dock and ramp repairs I guess.

So where is all the water being held at ? Parker dam does not have a lot of room to hold back . Is it low from hoover dam down river ?

Mohave and Havasu are just about as high as they get. I think Havasu is a little over 449' doesn't get much higher than that.o_O

Now that the storm is over, it should start moving back to normal.

They reduced the output every day as the storm approached. Its still a trickle.

If the Bill Williams, and all the other little washes etc were feeding extra water into Havasu, while simultaneously demand for the water from the two pumping stations (AZ-Wilmer and CA-Whitsett) falls off, then they will hold the water back up stream. I know it's hard for some people to believe, but the water doesn't just go into a black hole. Every bit of it that goes past each of the control devices (dams or headgates) is accounted for, and destined for a specific delivery.

cooler weather, less need for power, and i assume the farmers dont need water this week since the southwest is underwater.

boat cop said injuns dont need any water anticipating the storm

Not just the Indians. The river provides most of the irrigation for the entire Palo Verde Valley, from Blythe down to the Cibola Valley and Yuma. There are also canals that send water into El Centro, Brawley, etc.

To a lesser extent, it also means less domestic water that MWD needs to pump to the Coast (and stops along the way). As an example, Diamond Lake (near Hemet) is currently at 103% of normal. But MWD will overflow every one of their storage reservoirs, before they do any major slow downs on what they draw from the River.

Any time there's a major water event in SOCAL, is less water that needs to be pumped out of the Colorado River System.

Not sure where you get youre information but I can assure you that we most certainly did slow the diversion from LH 2 days ago, and DVL has almost 200k acre ft of storage left.

@Bigbore500r post a pic of your dock

Soooooooooo......

I checked the flows Wednesday, saw it was hovering around 2 units +/- for the weekend. That's well below normal, but as long as you don't leave the boat on the dock during the "1 unit" flow periods it's fine. Normal Flows are double-this amount or more during April all the way thru October, to put in perspective how little water they were planning to run.

Thursday and Friday went without issue - boated during day, came and went from the dock but just tied it off at the end, which is basically beaching the nose and the drive is in 3'+ of water. Around 5pm the water is on its way back up to 2 units and you can pull it fully on the dock like normal, so I did.

Well.....they changed the plan overnight and I woke up Saturday to this......

Do you even beach your boat brah? :p

.......Live shot as of 5 minutes ago, this is what 1/2 unit looks like

Couldn't wait around till Tuesday for the flows to come up, so LITERALLY had to abandon ship and head home.
Added some extra dock lines and fenders for when the water comes back up, and luckily I have a few neighbors keeping an eye on it (and making fun of me).

Supposedly Havasu was higher than expected, and looks like the would rather shut my tap off than open up Parkers.......

Its real soft sand / silt, I just tell myself not much different than docking at Topock :D
Only thing that bothers me when this happens is the weight on the outdrive . This answers my question from a earlier question too about water release .

The low flow is a combination of a multiple entities trying leave room for the storm of the century that didn’t muster up here in LH like anticipated. We cut 450 cfs, 2 units, demand was low from Ag, and there’s plenty of state water available from the north. Combine all these factors and you have the Balancing act we deal with on a daily basis, add in the unpredictable storm situation and LH not having any real storage factor and you end up with these situations. It will be back to normal as soon as LH elevation comes down.

My family and I will be in Needles in the Colorado Shores neighborhood which is between your house and Jack Smith this Thursday thru Monday. If you need me to go check on it or anything let me know. I have no problem helping your neighbors get it back on the trailer for you or if you are worried about driving it after the outdrive sat in the mud for a few days I will help you tow it into jack smith and get it on the trailer.

Thank you for the offer!

I have some friends staying his weekend that are gonna keep an eye on it, and then were coming back labor day weekend so I think we'll be ok.

Drive is trimmed up all the way and the silt at end of dock is real mush so im hoping it's fine. But we'll see....

You could notice how low the water was yesterday afternoon dropping down the hill into Needles on the 40. Our dock is barley touching water. Should start filling back up by this afternoon. Only people I saw on the river were stand up paddleboarders last night.

Here’s a couple shots from Avi bridge.

Now would be a great time to cruise the river on a Ski or jet bote and create a GPS path around underwater hazards, between the Needles Bridge and Laughlin.

We don't want that, lets keep the masses afraid of the river north of Needles Bridge LOL

I thought about putting my stand up ski in the water last night, but the river was at least 30' back from the edge of my launch ramp.

What's it look like today? We're just down from you and wondering if at 1 unit our boats going to be in the dirt overnight this weekend.

Shows 1 unit till 8am and 3 units from 9am till 7pm.
6-8 hrs difference or so between Davis Dam and Needles bridge.

Edit- 1 unit from 11pm to 7am overnight, Fri and sat nights. At Davis Dam.

Hope this helps.

Fri is 1 unit till 9am and 2 units till 4pm, ramps up to 3.5 units from 6pm till 9pm.

Hope this helps.

1 unit on needles stretch today until 9 am. Takes about 3-4 hours to see change from Davis. He's in needles just up from us.

This might help, for those wondering -

9am - 7pm is potential for low water in Needles, at least thru Sunday given current release schedule

Based on the release schedule, they cut water back to 1-unit at 11am PST
I see the water respond in about 9 hours - it starts dropping around 8am and by 10am its low.

Heres what 1 unit looks like, from roughly 10am - 7pm this week.
Boatable without issue, but my dock is basically still in the mud till the last 3-4 feet of it.
And our dock is pretty damn deep compared to most....
1692898818923.png

Heres is what 2-3 units looks like:
Davis dam ups releases to 3 units at 10am PST - and by 7pm I see it coming up.
Again - 9 hours to see the full change from release schedule, to the Needles bridge.
The change may be faster with higher releases, but im not sure.
