I always scan the listing on FMP for older cars and I keep seeing scammers i guess, ex: one car I likes was listed 4 times in different locations at 4 different prices, I aclled one one of them and the guy acted very surprised LOL, so I said nope.
Now I found a really nice looking 55 Chevy and it was close (Henderson) at a fair price but I keep browsing and find it listed in Texas, same car at a different price ??? What do they think will happen ??? I dont get it

I've been guilty of it on a small scale. I don't know if it's the same anymore, but CL used to flag it if you put ads that were the same in different areas. (This was when it was free though) Same pics were fine, but text needed to be different.

Now, if the price is good, I study the pics. If it says it's in Phoenix, but has a grain silo or cornfields, red flag. One or two pics, red flag. "For Sell" "Rare" or "Must Sale"...yep, keep looking.

Do they just fish for 100 or so here and there? Or do they try for a "full deposit"? I've heard of people buying blindly, but now it seems there are way more thief than deals.

No idea, but with the amount of "deals" posted on there, I'd guess they get plenty of gullible people to send something.

I think there are probably more scam ads than real ones, from what I've seen.

Friend sent 14k for a mini ex. Price was to good to be true.

But usually a deposit $500-1000.

I just bought a second motorcycle off FB. Talked to seller at the bike he started from cold showed everything and then set phone down and rode around. He waited a long as it took me get stuff set up before money changed hands. I could still get screwed but looks good so far.

Dam this would probably get me. Last few cars and bikes I bought I offered to send a deposit so they would hold it for me until I could get there on the weekend to look/buy. Each person said no deposit needed and I ended up purchasing the car/bike when I got there. But if they were scammers they would totally got me. These were all what I considered great deals and I had to be the first to jump on it to get it type things. Thanks for the heads up, I will be more careful now.,
