I picked up a couple of battery boxes from Teague and I want to mount them in the boat. When I opened the boxes they only came with a couple of little screws to bolt them to the floor. There is no way those will hold a battery down. What is the best way to mount them?

If you have access to the bottom side of he floors through a small hatch, through bolt them. You don't want those moving around.

If you have access to both sides of your stringers, you could bolt them to some thick aluminum angle and then bolt those pieces to the stringers.

Depends on where you need them installed and what your boat looks like.

You could mount it the same way mine is, back under the transom so you have to hook it up by braille and need to remove the blower belt, water pump and MFI pump to monkey fuck the battery out.

You could...but it would be stupid.:D

Pilot drill 5/64 holes and use four stainless steel #10 X 3/4 philips oval head screws to attach the box to the bilge floor. That's 3/4" plywood, and those boxes won't be going anywhere.

The pullout rating is around 50-75 lbs per screw. Unless you put a 4+ G load on the boat, the box is staying put.

I have plenty of room on the side of the engine. That where the battery is now. I removed the screws from the original box, but that thing is not coming out without ripping the floor up. I don't know what they used to glue it down with. I can't bolt it to the stringers because the headers are in the way. Unfortunately I don't have access to through bolt it to the floor. So I was just wanted see what others have done to install theirs.

I would do that once and then I'd move the battery.

I would put a small dab of silicone on the bottoms of the bolt heads or in the pilot hole to keep water from going down the holes..

Those "couple little screws" on our Teague battery boxes have kept all three of our Optimas secured tightly to the floor for the past 11 years without any sign of failure. This is on a 29' Magic.

The battery boxes on my Eliminator are screwed to the floor. Boat's 20 years old and it's never been a problem. And the floor isn't even wood. It's some sort of cardboard fiberglass honeycomb composite.

Rock I just used screws provided with a little silicone on each and they are holding up great. Stop by and I can show you.

i just check it out again. I must have not got all the bolts. There are only 4 total in the box. They look like the ones that hold the top down or they are the ones that hold the box down and I don't have the ones for the top. Either way I'm 4 short.

Yeah those are the ones that hold the top to the posts. I'm assuming the holes to mount to the floor are countersunk? If so, you need 4 countersunk screws that fit those holes. I would go to back Teague, they have the biggest selection of stainless hardware that I've ever seen, so they'll get you all hooked up.

And x2 on using a dab on silicone in all the holes.

Or McMaster Carr, they pretty much have everything, I live close enough where ground shipping gets to me the next day

Those hold the top down. Go over the Hurst and get some SS screws to screw the base down.

That's what I'm going to do. I was looking at those screws thinking there's no way they would work. So it was throwing me off a bit. You ready to go the lake? I should have it all put back together really soon. Then we're going to go do a shakedown run. You might have to come out with us, in case I need a tow back to the dock. :eek
