So the key to my $400 dollar c230 died. I know what's wrong with it but can't find the part. They fucking want 366 bucks to get and program the new key. Plus I have to tow the car to them. What the fuck.

It's one of those fucking optical keys. The infrared reciever in it is fubar. If I could find the same style, I could just solder it in. But can't find that style. So they want to bend me over the counter and pack my ass full.

Ok, I can see maybe 150 for the key. But fuck 366 and I have to bring the car to them. Fucking bastards.

Wait until the fucking car drives you, by itself, right into a wall when the lidar, radar, laser, or other optics fail, or leaves you in the desert in limp mode, halfway between lenwood and needles. ;)

Had an 07 S500...2k to replace rear air shocks and 1700 to replace locked gear shifter. That's why they drop in value like the titanic in the used market. Once shit starts going wrong, nothing about it is cheap to fix.

are you sure it's the key? It can also be the module. You push the key in, the key does not activate and does not unlock the steering wheel? If so, you might have a bigger issue in hand then just the key. It could be the module. Same thing happened to my wife's mercedes. I believe it was $1600.00. They said that the module was a safety/security feature and no other mechanic shop had the programmer to do it.

Doesn’t surprise me... I learned last week new key for a ‘96 seado gtx runs $40 for the key, $40 for the programming.

What year ? If you are working on this yourself, scan the front SAM module and the EIS/EZS/PCM for immobilizer codes, if you get mismatch or key failure codes there are lots of options. Many places online repair the keys and have them cheap...like this for example with the module and key : https://www.googleadservices.com/pa...hUKEwjbyNmV2a7bAhUHeKwKHdWXBdcQ9aACCC8&adurl=

BTW a half decent scan tool can tell you the key is bad.....:D

If you know what is wrong with the key just buy a cheap one or used one off fleabay and fix it.

mbworld.org and benzworld.org. Saved me thousands over the years, research it out.

I threw in the towel on my e320 when the cats went bad. I loved that car, the best I've ever owned.

Positive it's the key. I fixed it once but the plastic for the reciever won't handle a 15 watt soldering iron.

does the light blink on the key? battery is good? if so does the infrared sender work? use your phone to take a video/pic of it and make sure its working. then check the AAM fuse... most cars its located in the trunk fuse panel. 7.5a fuse usually.

http://www.mercedesmedic.com/mercedes-key-fob-not-working/

I can still open the doors and everything with it. Plus the infrared is actually run by an inductive coil.

Not a bad idea. I may still do that for a second key.

What year is it? I ended up with an extra fob from our 2004 C230 when it got totaled about 10 years ago. I may still have it around somewhere if it's of any use to you.

It's a 1999. Might be able to pull the reciever component out and solder it in mine.

I think owning any whip makes you a baller by default. :)

I own Dodges and Chevys. Someday I can afford me one of those German or Belgian precision cars. ;)

Brian

So a 400 dollar benz makes me a baller?

Cool

Hahahha. I prefer the older saabs. The ones prior to gm ruining them. This was just a price I couldn't pass up.

Have you checked with Abletronics or some other type of electronic supply house?

Maybe they could repair it?

I've been looking for the ir reciever and just have not been able to find the same type. Otherwise I can fix it.

Haha, suuuuuckerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :)
It had the same problem when I bought it. That's how I got it so cheap. Was able to just resolder a cold solder joint and it worked fine for over a year. Now the reciever broke loose in a different spot. Tried resoldering it but the plastic housing for it just melted.

Id say since you got the car so cheap, in that case, pony up for a new key, baller. Easy deal. :)

Anyone owning a German car not under factory warranty either (A) has too much money or (B) hasn't yet owned a German car not under factory warranty. Once you've done it you'll learn your lesson and never do it again.

I am. Got a locksmith that can do them. Had an appointment with them at 7 tonight. But they were a no show. Dude was apparently to busy to call and say hey, I've got something that came up, I'm not gonna make it. The fucking company just now told me he's not gonna make it. 2 fucking hours and up till now they have been telling me he is on his way. Now after 2 hours and 4 calls to the company, oh, I'm not gonna make it.

What the fuck. The whole point of a 7pm appointment was so I don't miss any work. Now have to wait till 8 in the morning

All are '07 or newer.
Tow vehicle is a 9-7x (chevy trailblazer)
The 9-2x was a subie outback, if that's the x you were referring to.
My first car was a 1972 99. I'd done full on road race mods to it. Caged, about 3 inches off ground.

Sweet. I prefer the 88 - 92 900s. Had an spg. Loved that car. 18psi boost and handled like a go-cart. Then some douche assed beaner didn't feel like tying down his fucking ladder. Jammed under the front end and sent me into a K rail. Fuck wish I still had that car.

Didn't realize the 9-7x was a trail blazer. The cars were never very good on the Vauxhall platform. Body was to flexible.
