I am looking for a SUV that fits 2 car seat's in the 2nd row that both a large driver and passenger can have the front seat in the full back position.
Perfer a mid size suv but open to a full size suv. Looking in the 2015 and newer range under $15k.
No extended wheelbase suv like a Excursion, Suburban, etc.
Don't need third row seat's but not a deal breaker.
Does anyone have real world experience with 2nd row captain chair's with 2 car seats, is that set up better for car seats than a bench seat?

Chevy Traverse... The middle row seats also slide backwards.
So there must be a lot of room in between the front seat and the car seat with the 2nd row slide all the way back?

Oh boy this hits home for me. I have a 2020 Explorer ST with Captains. Car Seats are forward facing? If so, mine fit great. I am 6'3 , 295, and have my seat all the way back, no complaints rom passengers.

I can't vouch for the reliability of this car right now, because I am in for transmission work as we speak. And its been in 4 times for all kinds of shit.

I do sometimes wish we had the bench seating so wife can sit next to the kid, but that goes away once the oldest fights with the younger. And it was more handy during infant stage maybe for feedings etc.

The car seats are rear facing but one will be forward facing soon.

Yup, my wife is tiny but even with the rear facing she had plenty of room in passenger seat. May have been tight behind me though. Never tried.

My daughter is big, I switched her to front as soon as possible. even though I am sure the liberals would kill me for doing it so soon!

I have a 17 explorer sport and it is good. Still manageable to drive and not a boat like a sub. Its the family truckster. The car seats fit well although rear facing is tighter. I'm 6'4" and the kid sits behind me so mom can deal from the passenger seat. This is the second of this generation explorer sport we have had (accident on the first, it saved my wife's life when someone fell asleep and crossed the center line at 65 mph...) almost 100k on that one with no issues and 90k on this one with nothing but oil changes and tires.

The sport is noticeably more money but the TT 3.5 is totally worth it...... Reach out if you want more info.

I wish I would have kept my 17' Sport and not traded it in for this new 2020 ST. My 2017 NEVER skipped a beat and was great. So I thought moving into the new model would be a no brainer.

Its been nothing but a nightmare!

I’m not sure there is any mid size SUV that can fit a rear facing car seat and allow the front seat to be all of the way back. In my Yukon the rear facing car seat is behind the passenger seat for this reason.

Infinity QX60. Both rear facing fit with seats back, room to spare. Good all around car, and you can get them cheap.

We had an 05 Chevy Equinox and my mom had a 2011. Im 6’4” and Husky. It was the most roomy mid size SUV I have sat in, front and back seats. Only 2 rows, so the back was a bench seat. Good budget SUV.

We also had 2 car seats at the same time, forward and rear facing. And then booster seats. I could still put the drivers seat all the way back.

Yes, I've got the GMC version and we never had issues with backward facing car seats. There is ton of room in the front row also, so full back might not be needed.

You arent going to find anything that new for $15k.
FWIW we bought a manual trans PT Cruiser believe it or not, because at 6'6" I was comfortable driving AND the rear doors open almost 90 deg. which makes getting kids and seats in and out sooo much easier.
I'd sell you our 2007 Toyota Highlander with 150k miles for $10,000. Front leg room is a bit cramped but I've still done 10 hr days behind the wheel.

I find myself wondering if you need the front seats all the way back? I'm 6'5" and don't put the seats all the way back in any of my vehicles. In my wife's car, with the seats all the way back my head is behind the B pillar and I can't reach the steering wheel.

Im only 6' but all arm and legs. Most cars the front seat has to go all the way back for me to comfortably drive long distances. I want my legs stretched out as much as possible.

Same here. I'm 6'4" and unless you are built like an ape and all arm you will probably be about an inch from full back.
Simple answer is none of them.
LOF rather than being snotty in still yet another thread, see the world beyond a toyota 4 runner. I had one - it thoroughly failed at car seats along with so many other things. Realistic options exist. I tried it and the Explorer. They were not even in the same ball park for practicality, comfort and safety when hauling families and kids. Seriously compare the safety of the two.
That all said, its hard to beat a Sub, Expedition, mini van, or even the Taurus SHO I had for 5 years for true room. The down side is they are much bigger, generally get poorer fuel mileage (not the most important point but does still matter), and are not as easy to deal with in urban situations or small garages and such. The wife and I went back and forth on the most recent explorer and expedition. These tipped the balance to the explorer. There are a few days where we would love some of the advantages of the larger ride but 98% of the time its the mid size for the win. I will take 98% vs the 2%......

Daughter has a '15 GMC Acadia with 2nd row captains that I think fits your requirements in dimensions, and pretty close in price, depending on miles

Did you guys outgrow the 2nd flex? You stepped up to a suburban now right?

I have Stacy’s mom the flex and we got a suburban.. then we traded in the suburban on a new Denali xl.

Why not something like this? It’s a solid platform and plenty of room.

Anyone have experience in older body shape 2012 to 2014 Nissan Armada?
I have seen a few with 4 captain chair's and I believe a power 3rd seat.
Just looked at a mint original owner 2013 Platinum 4x4 with 118k miles for $11.5k but he said make a offer but he also said Carmax offered him $7.5k in February.
Don't really need a 4x4 and did not want to get such an old shape suv but for a suv that is $10k or lower the Armada's seem to be a good vaule?
Are they fairly reliable? Looking for an suv that would be good for my daughter for a couple of year's that will have 2 kids in car seat's.

Wow I missed your post but just saw it after I posted asking about Armada's reliability.
That is a nice looking Armada but on the high side. I called 4 dealerships asking them what they would pay on a 2013 Platinum 4x4 with 118k miles that I am looking at and they said $7k so I figured if I pay around $9k private party that would be fair. One dealer I know sent me what 2013 Platinum 4x4's are bringing (picture attached) at the auction.
I would rather have a 2wd for maintenance cost/repairs/insurance.

That’s too bad to hear, I have a 21 ST that I love. 31k miles right now. Tons of room in the 2nd row captains with 2 car seats.

Yea mine really didnt start to show its true colors until after 36k, ironically when the bumper to bumper expires.

So my transmission is getting all new parts. There are no whole ones around since all the fleet cop cars are having same problems.

I finally got FordCare to reimburse for rental car and add an extended warranty once its finished. I had to threaten legal.

Dont get me wrong, after driving all these different shit box rentals, I really love the car and room it has. Just wish it could run good and behave!

The car seat makes a big difference in these things....a cheap Walmart clunker is going to not be as space saving as something that is higher end and designed for different applications. The X5 has a clek in it and I can have both seats all the way back...research best fitting seats for the car model online.

I leased a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited when both my kids were both in car seats. It had captain chairs in the second row and a drop down third row. It was a very roomy suv and served it’s purpose while the kids were still small. The captain chairs made accessing the third row easy without removing the car seats.

Some new Hyundai and Kias mid and larger SUV front seats offer like Lazy Boy recliners with pop up leg rests. Rear seats slide back/recline too. The EV versions cool and heat as well. At 32F outside temp only a 2% range draw in 8 hours.
