pretty simple.....they perform very well in their size class. They're efficient hull designs with a deep entry for piercing through the waves, chop etc. have good lifting strakes that allow them to run fast and in control, they handle higher speeds well, are predictable and they're well built hulls that generally stand the test of 😁😁. See, pretty simple. 😁😁

Both of them are legendary racing platforms. Not saying they are or were the only ones but they built up quite a following for their durability, performance and their construction (especially Schiada).

Both are great boats, as cruisers, family boats, hot rods or max effort racers. I’d be honoured to own either, without question.

I never even thought of considering a V-drive but I love the way schiadas looks

Obviously that’s the traditional old school thought about them that comes to mind but they are both great I/O platforms as well.

I’ve even seen both in the mythical jet boat version.

I bought a 1990 Hallett Vector as my first boat. 454 Mag 365 horse with Bravo1 outdrive and 23 pitch 3 blade Merc prop
All of my friends had 20.5 or 21 foot jet boats....Eliminator, Advantage, Carrera, Ultra, you name it. I ran circles around them in smooth water and even more so when it got a little rough. The only 21 footer that passed me with the same power was a Schiada.....damn it.....and he just barely pulled me, like took 5 seconds to get a boat length on me

I think I paid $23,500 brand new in 1990 and sold it for $21,500 in 1992.

You can see in the pic below how little of the hull was in the water with drive trimmed and tabs up. It was a very fun boat to drive.
😁 🙃

A few wise men told me to always have a friend with a boat, but don't buy one yourself.

Those guys were home spanking the monkey while we were on the lake with their future ex-girlfriends 😁
At least some weekends ;)

They make pretty nice (twin)outboards too!

This vector is my second boat. It’s been an absolute dream come true to own and learn to drive. As stated above it’s probably one of the best in its size class for rough water. And honestly better than some others in the 22-24 foot realm too. I said SOME, relax everyone haha

Schiadas are like aviation grade boats, Hallets are cool and the stringers on that one above look good, but not all look like that. Lavey is the boat that I think is up there with Schiada, but doesn't have the same following for some reason.

Lavey had a race team. I think that yellow 2750 is still out there racing in Florida somewhere.

I’ve had a 1200 hp Daytona 118mph . 800hp I/O vector and currently a blown 21 Schiada v drive. You can’t even compare the ride or the feeling of driving a 21 v drive with power. The boat feels way more solid and tight than the vector that I owned. I’ve never driven a V drive vector so I can’t speak on that. The acceleration, and handling was an eye opener. After driving it for 30 seconds I realized what all the hype was about.

I very much concur. The build quality of my 2950 was unparalleled. I can only wish to have another someday however in reality they are quite scarce. With cat popularity and Laveys 27 saber performance I’m surprised as well as saddened they didn’t survive

You just have to ride in one or better yet drive a well setup vector or schiada v drive with 1000+HP and you will fully understand. Nothing else like it, and you can stand on it at 30-40 as many times as you want and not worry about exploding an outdrive.

The responsiveness and predictability of a properly set up schiada v-drive with some decent power are the absolute top level, they don't have tendencies to do anything dangerous even when driven very aggressively. There ar definitely faster boats, but in that class those boats will not drive the same, most are now IO with # VI drives.

But what sets them apart from a rayson or other fast and well regarded v-drive hulls is that th schiada actually has enough V to beat the water down, and has enough room to put 4 people and a cooler in the boat while doing it.

When I was running my buds 22 with the Speedmaster last week in needles (had not run it in almost a decade since we put the old desert heat motor in it here at my house in Tucson) It felt so big compared to my 21 yet it’s basically the same length (2” diff) I don’t remember the exact freeboard and deck rise difference but it’s like 4 inches on both. It felt amazing to be behind the wheel of this thing again and will do it again soon. Boat has been in mothballs in my buds old hot rod shop and was a fun few days getting it back on the water. Epic float!
On a sidenote is anyone interested in an old front engine dragster? Gonna be clearing some of the stuff out of here. Wheelie bars for sand and asphalt.

I don't see it either. But then again, I'm $200k+ deep in a pontoon so who am I to judge.
Only $200k???? You got off light. You must be one of those poor saps with only (1) Merc Racing 400. 🤣 🤣

JK....I'm just jealous I don't have a tv and bbq and couches and room for more snacks on my Daytonas

I'll get a toon when I can no longer climb up the trailer to get in my boats....which is getting closer by the day

I have a Schiada story that made me a believer. Years ago My wife and I were invited to go to breakfast with a guy, his wife, and their two daughters sitting on their laps in his twin turbo Schiada from Echo Lodge to Badnochs. The boat didn’t have floors, it was a ski race boat with a back seat. We buzzed down river in the 85 to 90 mph range with the occasional blip just over 100 but the part of the trip made me want one was the 60 or 70 MPH U turn we made at Bluewater. It railed that corner so hard and so perfect I knew right there why people love Schiada’s so much. This same boat went on to win the Catalina ski race the last year the little boats started with the big boats, no head start.
This same guy built one of the first Vector v-drives and it was a ill handling pile but I think it had to do with the v-drive placement and the type of plates he rigged on it.

You must not go to Big Bend often enough. There's a few fast Rayson Crafts there. I remember my first ride in 1 there. Probably 20 years ago now. Time flies.

I came up in a Rayson. I gots Countless hours of seat time.

I know both hulls very well. 👍🏼

I love my 765hp I/O Vector. Runs hard, super predictable and fun to drive. I’d put it up against any 1000hp v drive.
