I got whipped into a sandbar at Blythe years ago, ankle deep water. It took 6 guys and another boat to get our jet boat off of the sandbar...

Fastest on a ski 60mph...

35 mph. But I don’t mean to brag. I know Linder has me beat. But the speed limit is 35 on my lake.

skis are for puzzies
barefoot ski 42 mph

6'3" and 215 lbs.

The barefoot formula (215/10)+20mph = 41.5 mph. I preferred the water a little harder and ran about 45 for tumble-turns and about 47 for the front to smack (front to back hop turn) and one foot. Backwards one foot was a little easier and ran it about 45

Looks painful, no thanks. o_O

That's Gail,, can tell by the voice when she said "in gear". I posted shots of her on FB a couple weeks back. Water was not smooth so she used shoe skis that day.

Did you run through the drags at Long Beach? We were ski racing before GPS speedos for the most part.

I rode backwards for a short practice run at the Southern 80 with 2 skiers, tattletale showed 114, but I would not have guessed that fast, the water was smooth and so was the driver (Mike Dominguez)

138 at Phx is the fastest barefooter.
Scott Pellatin out of Discovery Bay ( VP of Sanger Boats) holds that record. He also holds the fastest tandem barefoot at about 130 mph.

Probably 70. Hit the wake on my sister's 21" V drive and landed tip first on the other side. Broke my back on that one.

About 85 behind my Howard day cruiser, many years ago on a regular slalom ski.

Related question for those that have. If a boat topped out at 100 mph while pulling a skier, how much faster would the boat go without a skier?

Just curious about the drag.

Ive heard some weird stuff like- you’re losing 2 mph because of that Pitot tube etc... if so, ive always wondered what a skier would do...

A lot of it depends on propulsion as well.

Outboards can lose 7-8 mph.

Where as a vdrive or #6 boat might lose 3-4 mph.

Probably mid-70s by my buddies brendella v drive. On my taperflex wake jumper. Tried a Murdoch spee ski at the River but probably not more than 45 miles an hour. Seems harder to ride those at slow speeds.
Pulled a barefooter at endo's Long Beach ski drags with my Sanger flat and nitrous. I think we only ran about 80 first round. But nobody was getting full pulls so it was good enough for third place for us. The race was stopped after first round because Roy McShay crashed and died going for the barefoot record.

104 at Nationals - got passed by 3 SoCal skiers on 3rd lap - ended up 4th overall - tucked tail and quit racing - having A LOT more fun play skiing on the Delta - Will not lie - I miss the adrenaline rush, but not the 'potential collateral damage' when you 'step-off' and crash-n-burn. Hats' off to ya'll that still racing - Good luck at Parker and BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!

on a slalom course, whatever -28 off requires accross the wakes. guessing 55ish. i think i remember the world record @-41 off you hit something like 85mph.

in a whip behind my 65mph boat so probably 75-80 on a comp slalom ski, feels pretty fast.

About 85 on one of these at Clear Lake behind my cousins Schiada (Dick Colburn) back in 1979. Speed was estimated on the RPM's.

Pffft. Anyone can ski behind a fast boat. Try doing my world record performance of getting up behind a 1977 18' Galaxie tri-hull powered by a Merc 140 that had three people in it.

I'm 6'2", weighed about 210 at the time. I thought I was gonna drown before my head finally cleared the bubble.

I've been told I throw up a decent wall of water (or at least I used to) but I don't think it's anywhere as good as these, but I would like to think it is.

About 65 mph just before I ate it. The good thing is that I was young (in my early twenties) at the time. At 68 years of age, I prefer to go 65 with a bunch of fiberglass around me.

...That was a horrible day...I watched that gentleman die before my very eyes...I will never forget watching his family stand by his lifeless body that had been brought to the launch ramp..
...I think he was going for 130???...

...You know what...I don’t think I should’ve posted this and I may delete it???...
