So, I head down to our launch ramp in the golf cart to take the dog swimming this evening... when I pull up there's an older guy with his 21 ft boot sitting on the ramp... I mean on it... apparently boat started taking on water bad and he jammed it up there so not to lose it completely... waiting for his wife to bring trailer down. When she gets there we devise a plan on how to get on the trailer since it only has a tow bar and no winch... as soon as we start to get trailer under it, it starts going under quick! So I rig a ratchet strap on it and start pulling... what I noticed in my rapid attempt at saving this mans boat was multiple other people coming in, getting their trucks and pulling down next to us .. only to load up their boats and head on out... this went on for about a half hour as I struggled to get this done! Only one other boater actually stopped and gave assistance while others actually made comments about us taking up the whole ramp ! Anyways... guess I just needed to vent after pathetic display of compassion towards a fellow boater... all ended ok, got the boat on the trailer and him and his wife are headed back to Washington with most of his boat intact....

Shitty deal. I tend to stop for bikers and old people. Millinials not so much.

Nice of you to help!

Did you think to ask others to help?

Should be a given. If you see people on the ramp struggling with a boat that is sinking just help. Its what we do as Americans. Just like when I saw a roll over on Rice road last year and pulled my whole program over to help knowing I could possibly get stuck in the sand trying to leave. Its what we do.

I agree with you completely but when we NEED help sometimes, unfortunately, these days we need to ask for it.

There's a better chance you'll see it on social media than get help in most cases.

Based on the recent and continuing P&G section dialog, I've learned that before any aid should be rendered, confirmation of political party affiliation must be established beyond any reasonable doubt and approved of. :rolleyes

And don't forget age groups! [emoji35]

It's amazing how judgemental Some people have become. This whole country is going to shit.

There was a guy on the ramp all twisted around one day. I watched half a dozen people launch or retrieve, and not one of em bothered to help.

When I got to the ramp, I blocked it all up, and me and another crew helped the guy get straightned out. (dead engine, just him and his wife)

He was super thankful. I was just doing what I was taught, always help when you can.

Props to the OP. [emoji106]

It seems logical to me and most on here but some people really feel that their time is much more important than someone else's well being.... I didn't help for any other reason than seeing someone in a bad situation and hoping I could be of assistance. Didn't do it for karma, good words, or a free cold beer... but on a good note! Went and saw one of the best 80s cover bands at Sundance last night!!! The spazmatics killed it!

Well kudos to you for stepping up and helping your fellow boater. I do understand your frustration on the etiquette issue though but for me it has really been the opposite of late. I was actually going to start a thread about the little things that bring boaters together as mutual friends that you never met but are there to help you out whether it was catching a dock line to pull you in or helping get lined up good on the trailer in the wind, etc....Seems like every time i go out strangers are stepping up to lend a helping hand lately. I dont do busy holiday weekends though because it brings out more of the party crowd and they sometimes have other priorities that don't include courteous etiquette while boating.
