I've test driven them all. Not looking for a BMW or MBZ as I put about 15k-20k per year on my car. Lookin for a 4 door as it's for business and as long as I keep it clean.....oh well.

Cars I've tested:

Genesis
Malibu
Optima
Maxima
Charger
300
Accord
Camry

Is there anything good out there that's not too small that reasonably priced just to rack up some business miles? I'm a pretty big guy so the small stuff won't be comfortable and it's not business enough for entertaining.

At the same time, I'm not a fan of cars that are TOO big. I like to drive it and have fun every once in a while so the full size 300 just seemed too big for what it could do.

I'm leaning Charger. Any Dodge guys on the board that want a sale?

I also buy all my cars white these days. I would have probably gone to another Accord but White Exterior only comes with Tan Interior which I'm not a fan of. White Exterior with Black Interior which is how the American car companies make them.

Buying a new car sucks.

Bought an '08 Malibu from Jay and still like it today. 70K on it now and still showing 28+ mpg from day one. 4 banger/6speed auto. To date, I've put on set of tires, changed oil about 6 times and had 1 warranty deal when the brakes were dragging.

I'd buy another one tomorrow.........

Those cars are over the place..lol

What price tag?

I like the genesis 4.6 and the new r series.

Charger rt offers alot of bang for the buck but i don't like the side profile. I like it better than the new 300 though. Same car underneath.

I would never own a toyota but the new camry is pretty nice.

Maxima is decent too but imo pricey for a fwd v6

Im a year ir so out and i have no idea what i would buy. Perhaps a used cts v

My pops has that for his company car. Holds up well in a rear end accident too! :D He has the white with Grey. This might be where I go between this and the Charger.

Unfortunately, the Genesis only comes with Camel and Tan interior. I did like it though.

I wouldn't go with the RT as I drive too much and I think it would just be a waste. And I'll have another sports car for fun driving. I dig the new profile of the car.....just not sure about the tail lights.

I found the Maxima exactly how you explain it. Pricey for what it is.

CTS. Forgot about the Caddy. I'd want the V too with Hennessey package making 700hp but again.....I'm trying to be all business and grown-up like.;)

I have an '11 Hyundai Elantra and love it. It was inexpensive and can come with all the bells and whistles of a luxury car. I tested the new Ford Fiesta and the Elantra is huge in comparison on the inside, but still compact on the outside. I have had it for almost a yea now and it is a nice, comfortable, nimble little vehicle.

Their Sonata is very nice too.

I think that Hyundai Genesis looks pretty decent if it is the one I am thinking about, sort of like a Bentley ??

The Malibu is nice car....so is the Charger. Spent a lot of rental time in both. Also, you can't go wrong with a Honda Accord.

Jay is great to deal with....still have the 2500 HD Crew Cab he sold me 4 years ago.

I was going to say I really like driving STacy's Ford Flex I bought her.. but that kinda blows the 30K out of the water..

If you get a chance go drive one, they are luxury (leather/wood, ac seats, heated seats cameras etc..), roomy, get decent mileage, perfectly quiet at 90 - 100 mph, etc.. etc.. I haven't really found a downside to it yet.

Look at the camry...they changed the lines and the interior looked great. Like you i think toyotas are pretty blah. With that said if i was looking for a nice 4dr at a resonable cost that got good mileage i would put it way above anything in its class

if you can avoid the potholes, I think Hyundai's 10 year 100,000 mile warranty can not be over looked. This would make a great second vehicle, were say you only 10-12k miles a year. Money in the pocket. I wish all the car makers could offer a standard warranty like that.

That being said, the Malibu and the Taurus seem like reasonable business vehicles.

Agreed. Which is why my Dad drives one. :D

Yeah, I got one of those too! Just sits in the garage waiting to pull the toyhauler around. Jay needs to switch up makes here and there.

Styling blows to me. Just bought the wife a new Odyssey a couple months ago so we got the whole eight passenger vehicle representation already. The Odyssey is awesome. Wider than a Surburban interior wise and I get 28 Hwy.

Are you only interested in cars or maybe a small SUV? I have and 2011 escape as my company car. I have put 58k on it since july of last year and have done nothing but oil changes, still has the original tires. Get around 25 mpg in mixed use.

Hey I'm one of those grown up professional business like types you are takking about. (even though I'm trying hard not to be ;))

But I'm getting a CTSV for my company car. And I drive 16000 a year.

I used to have an 05 CTSV. Love that car

CTS. Forgot about the Caddy. I'd want the V too with Hennessey package making 700hp but again.....I'm trying to be all business and grown-up like.;)

Maxima makes little sense when they're priced like an Infiniti G.

Sounds like you are looking at mid-size sedans.
How important is MPG to you, versus performance?

Is something like a 3 Series (just as an example) too small?

Not the Honda Accord??? It may be a bit conseritive looking on the outside but inside they made the EX beautiful. The ride is great the V/6 runs on 4 cylinders when needed but i would go with the 4 banger it has like 200hp. I have owned 5 of them and never had a minor issue with them, I now have two hondas, and i log miles.. Resale is the best also. just my 2 cents.

I can't figure the maxima or nissans thinking on that car?

Same drivetrain with a better interior and styling than an altima 3.5 and charge an extra 15K.

I wish they would build a cheaper version of the G37 with a nissan badge. Use the maximas dimensions as G's are a little small and make it rwd with 300hp and a little cheaper in price/quality than the Infinitys.

Have you checked out the Fusion or the new Taurus? The Taurus can come AWD and boosted from the factory.

They are offering a G25 with a smaller engine...but that's sort of the opposite direction of what you're asking for :p

The G is actually sort of an in-betweener.
Competes with the 3 Series/C-Class/Lexus IS, but larger in size...not quite the size of a 5 Series/E-Class/Lexus GS.

For $30K, I'd look into a CPO Lexus or Infiniti, add them to the shopping list.
Better warranty than new, and much better cars than those originally listed IMHO :thumbsup

(The Germans also have CPO cars, at great prices, but just because repairs are covered, doesn't mean its not a PITA when you have to take your car in)

I agree, I would at least look at them. They aren't the old Taurus of the past.

Take a look at the Fusions. My dad has a 2010 Fusion SE. 4 cyl with the 6 speed manual. Fun car that easily gets 30 MPG. He averaged 31 driving to the city every day, I've gotten low to mid 30s on road trips in it. He's put 45K miles on it, only issue it has ever had was that the blower motor had a slight squeak at low speeds, nothing else. My girlfriend's dad is 6'4, 275 and he fits in it no problem.

Hyundai Sonata Turbo
Hyundai Genesis 3.6
Cadillac CTS 3.6 (although not a V, they have a package that makes it look pretty nice)
Kia Optima Turbo
Nissan G37 (But I think to high)

I had a 300SRT8 and have rented new body style 300/Chargers ....I am not impressed by them in the v6 versions....very bland rental car experience...I like the new body styles though for both.

I am not a fan of the Camry looks...and the Lexus's are likely out of the price range...

I may get flamed but the Koreans are building some good looking cars these days...well optioned for the money you pay and they have stole some german car maker designers to help the look of their cars. I rented a 4 cylinder base model 2011 Sonata on a recent trip and felt the experience was average....but the well equipped Turbo is a nice car.

Someone said something neg about the genesis sedan earlier....I put it on par with any 300/Charger I have driven and more sporty (exluding the SRT8)..

The Genesis coupe3 is getting a frontal makeover next year with power upgrades.

They are increasing the turbo to around 280hp and the V6 to around 340. My next car will need to be fun while still getting decent mileage so I will take a look at hyundai's.

Probably end up with a pony car...hard to beat 400+ hp and 30K

Yeah... for two doors hands down. I am not a fan of the Mustang styling (all personal preference) but hands down the performance per dollar it is hard to been....like the Vette with its peers...

For american muscle car 2 door (in 30-40K category), I really like the Challenger SRT8....but it should be priced more in line to a Mustang for what you are getting, not 42K +

we had to lemon law the wifes Audi. which she LOVED. it was all wheel drive, all the gizmos but nav and FUN to drive.

she drives 20k a year. just kills any trade in at all.

she also drives alot of rental cars. so after we decided we needed to lemon law the Audi, she started driving different rentals.. that helped rule out a bunch of different cars!

she was thinking Volvo, Mercedes, Infinity. we talked about it to the point I was sick of looking at new cars! she was looking in the $50-60k range.

finally had the discussion about trade in value. she can make it about 3 years before she starts talking about wanting a new car... we haven't paid off her last 4 cars before we traded them in. I told her, honestly, I was sick of throwing money out the window. She drives so much and she likes em fast... so we are usually paying more for gas than what he company covers. and we would be upside down at the trade in. but I totally understand wanting something comfortable since she drives so much.

man... she was mad! lol took a couple of weeks before she said she'd look at something that was a better value (with the promise of buying and building a vintage Porsche after the new car is paid off BTW!)

she really liked the VW (I think cause it was basically an Audi and I'm not buying another one of those)... was ok with the Toyota Camry... thought about a Camaro vert....

she... on her own... went and looked at Hondas. Called me from the dealer to meet her there. she had obviously found something she liked. :champagne:

we bought a 2 door Honda Civic. Leather interior, nav, really nice tunes (first thing she would say after buying any of her previous cars would be "can you add a subwoofer?") Told the guy what we were willing to pay. Got a awesome interest rate. I think we put $1000 down. Took 45 min and we were out the door.

now, I'm not a new car kinda guy. I could care less. But I really like this car. I dunno if its because I know it'll last until its paid off or because her gas allowance actually pays the gas card or what... she seems to really be enjoying it... although the other day she did say it probably would've been a better idea to get a 4 door.

Its not even close to as fast as some of the cars shes had in the past... but it'll make it up the pass with plenty of floorboard left.

I think your best bet is to drive all of em. There were a couple she was ready buy. The finance peoples attitude made me leave 2 places, the salesman's attitude made her leave Chevy.

There's a saying that I happen to agree with:
It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than be stuck in a fast car going slow :thumbsup

Its a tough call....

I think the challenger looks the best on the outside but honestly 50K is out of my beat on it price range.

Interior, weight and build quality are so/so.

I am ok with the camaros outside but dislike the weight and interior....I like the Ls3 better than the others.

Mustang is 500lbs lighter has a nice interior and technology wise (sync) is way ahead of the curve. Motor is right there with the other 2.

I will probably end up with a mustang with leather and the brembo upgrade becuse I like the wheel package. I have also considered the Boss 302 but I drive 15-18K a year and I hate to ruin something that your kind of paying a limited premium for.

I have 1- 1.5 years to make a decision. Honestly I' would love for GM to start producing another 450hp 4door with a manual.

Actually I had right up until now. :grumble::grumble:

I liked that car. A bunch of cool fun potential, maufactured in Mexico with plastic hammers.

That VW shit I quoted might also come from there along with my Dodge truck.

The Hyundai's are cool. I like the way the sheet metal waives when they hit 70 on the freeway. Not to mention the massive 1 1/2" of travel. They take the bumps nicely.

A Daihatsu would be my second choice. Daewoo third.

All three are fine examples of automotive engineering
