So, I recently heard a phrase that was said by a supervisor to an employee. Hearing the comment, I was left a little unsure of what the supervisor actually meant. I didnt want to interrupt, so I didnt say anything. Hence the reason I'm asking the RDP Braintrust. Here is the phrase.

"Keep doing what you're doing."

As a supervisor or a manager, what would this phrase mean to you? Would you say this to someone whom you supervised? And lastly, what should a person think if they hear this phrase from a supervisor or a manager?

I'm curious, so please enlighten me. :D

To me it is akin to keep up the good work.
In my own career this sentiment has been expressed to me in accompaniment to sizable salary increases.
I have to admit I’ve also used it when praising people on my teams.
Agreed.

...or....when your tard workers show up late or screw something else up. And in your mind you are thinking, "this is your last chance, motherfucker, just keep doing what your doing" and you'll be out on your keester soon enough.

But I would say most likely it is positive reinforcement to continue like you are, and the boss is happy. Like, "Nice work, Keep it up!"

It means you're doing well. Until you're not. Then they'll forget they said you were doing well

When I was a kid, my parents would add a few words to that phrase and change the entire meaning. "Keep doing what you're doing" and see what happens to you. Lol. It was never anything good . . . .
