A plane carrying NBA team the Oklahoma City Thunder from Minneapolis to Chicago apparently struck a bird early Saturday when it was landing, damaging the plane, Delta Airlines said.

A bird at 30,000 feet? At night?

Assuming the aircraft was in the landing configuration at say 150 mph, a bird would?ve exploded like a water filled balloon and left a bloody mess so, it doesn?t look like barn owl strike.

Paddocks (or, Clinton?s) hard drive has sharp edges and would have torn the radome causing a bit more damage :yikes

A drone strike would also do gnarly damage just like the hard drive.

The only thing it could be is another jetliners radome that fell off at 30k altitude and striking this aircraft :D

I'd guess it was a drone or a man made object if you asked me.. no blood from the bird.

Who said it was at 30,000 feet? Answer: One of the players.
How does the player know what altitude it happened at? Answer: He doesn't.

This was a bird strike in during the approach phase. They don't always leave blood and guts. It wasn't at 30,000 feet.

They said it was a bird strike but I seriously doubt it happened at 30,000' unless the bird was wearing an oxygen tank. :rolleyes

Reminds me of an old Boeing joke. A EU bullet train engineer contacted Boeing about how to test windshields. The Boeing engineer told the person asking the question that they use turkeys in a canon. The EU engineer emailed back later, "dam, what material does Boeing use for windshields, we are having disastrous results with frozen turkeys". The Boeing engineer said "who said anything about frozen?".

Lightning!

My sister has been a flight attendant for 30 years and has been in a plane that took a lightning strike to the nose and it caved the nose in on the plane.

I'm going with a lightning strike.

I've seen detailed videos of a bird strike on an antenna radome...it's an ugly mess...

I'm not buying bird strike causing this...but no idea what it might have been?

I've been an Airline mechanic for 23 years. I have never seen a lightning strike cave in the radome. If lightning strikes it, it travels thru the airplane and burns rivets along the way and blows out the static wicks in the tail. A couple times a year I see a bird strike cause damage like that and leave no blood or feathers behind..

I?m guessing #9 & #10 both hit the plane - therefore no longer on the list, perhaps the last two in existence?

That is pretty rough there buddy. Considering I am in Cables flight pattern and ONT when shit is going bad, that is pretty rough thing to say.
