There are a few I would like to own, but I'll go with the cliche answer and say the car I had in high school. I found a copy of the dealer delivery document in a file a few weeks ago, paid about $5,500 for it. There were only 276 made with the SD-455 option.

I was 'THIS CLOSE' to owning my Holy Grail Car !!!!
Back in the mid 90's, a new neighbor had some family friends come over shortly after they moved in.
They cruised over in a black 100% original 1966 Chevelle SS Convertible.
My jaw dropped as the family of 4 rolled down the street with the top down.
If i remember correctly, every number was matching, original 396 / 4 speed manual. Completely cherry.
The car was built in the Los Angeles Chevy plant, and was sold at Felix Chevrolet. (even had the orig Felix lic. plate frame).

A few years later that family moved in on the next street over.
They had me come over to do a tile job estimate.
I offered to tile the entire house plus pay some extra for the car . . . which was now outside, and covered under a tent..
The wife was all over it . . . but she couldn't quite convince her husband to let it go.

Sadly, he was a car painter from LA, and a few years later he died of lung cancer . . . he did a lot of custom candy/brandy stuff and they think that's what got to him.

The car of course was left to the son, who neglected it, sold it and that was that . . . . I just about cried when I heard. 😭😢🥺

Looked just like this . . . except it had SS wheels w/ Sombrero Caps . . .

I still own the car… errr truck I took my driver’s license test in. High school was fun. Low trucks turn my crank. She’s a little shabby now. Waiting for paint and wheels

I love most cars, but if I had to pick one to drive and sometimes stare at while I drink beer it would be a 70 dodge challenger. White, 4 speed, Hemi. Always wanted one since childhood. I have a white 6 speed 2015 SRT challenger, and it’s a blast but not quite the same.
I’d much rather put my money into desert trucks, crawlers, boats, and 70’s dodge trucks.
From that list would be a 1977 power wagon macho (I have one, awaiting restoration), a myriad of other 72-80 dodge trucks mostly for sentimental reasons.
Any trophy truck. I can stare at them for days in awe of every detail. There are so many rad ones to pick from, and each unique.
A bomber, jimmys or wod chassis crawler.

But as far as 2 factory built vehicles, the following 2.

Love the 60's Jags, this is my friends he 'll never part with.

Loved my 72 340 Challenger I bought new. A 1970 Cuda, either with 383 0r 440 4 spd could be a contender to trade the Viper for. One with Hemi would be out of reach.

My all time favorite car is a 1934 Ford 3 window coupe and I happen to have one now (my avatar photo).

Second on the list would be a C2 Corvette Coupe. I had this '64 a few years ago but sold it. I'd really like a '66 or '67 BB 4 speed car but would be happy with a small block. The thing is, a C2 Corvette is going to cost me $50K or more. I'm not sure I want to spend that much on one car.

View attachment 1201554

I have this '02 Z06 with only 33K miles on it. This car will do everything better than a C2 except have that classic look.

View attachment 1201550

I also have this '79 (with '80 to '82 nose and rear) C3. If I wanted a C2 I'd sell both those cars to help fund it. The C3 is okay but could use some mods to get it where I'd want it (crate motor, 5 speed conversion, wheels. I also have a set of Hooker side pipes for it). I'd dump about $10K into it but I'd have a pretty nice car. I got lucky when I bought it for only $4500 so I wouldn't have a lot tied up in it. Or I could just sell it and be happy with the C5Z. 🤷‍♂️

View attachment 1201551

So, I have one of my 'holy grail" cars and reasonable substitutes for my other. I could easily give up the C3 but the C5Z is such an amazing car I don't know if I want to give that one up for a C2. Plus, I've already owned one once.

Anyway, what are your holy grail cars and do you own them now or think you might at some point?
my favorite of all time is the black 34 that you changed from four bar to hair pin and did the so cal front brakes..... should have kept that one...

Miura, gto (ferrari), 250 Calif, 959 most beautiful to my eyes. But I do not like driving old cars so some sort of pro touring on a classic muscle car silhouette would be ultimate pavement car for me.

49 Cadillac fastback sled, little chop, with a 940ci 1600 HP Sonnys hemi engine, some wazoo suspension/brakes, 100 gallon fuel tank, and a gear vendor that would allow it to lope along at 150 MPH for those long stretches of open road in Texas or Montana. Float like a butterfly sting like a bee, add bullhorns for sport.

My taste far exceeds my bank account...
Holy Grail is pretty tough. I've been lucky enough to at least sit in some really epic pieces, and drive a few as well. I'd have to go with:
1)Early 60's Aston Martin DB4 GT...sat in one once. Didn't know at the time what it was worth, was hired by a high end detailer to turn some wrenches on it. Sexy car, not like super model, like some movie star from a fantasy.

2)Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A...450ci straight 8, coach built...no 2 the same. This one though is my favorite. Only a 100mph car, but pure gangster...late 20's era View attachment 1201580
This beast is about 7ft wide, and 17ft bumper to bumper. If I had talent, I'd build that body with a modern drivetrain.

.
I drive a db4 from Monrovia to Santa Monica lol. Trailer didn’t show and it had to leave. Fuck it drive it! Got there and they said how’d you get it here. “ well we road tested it”. They weren’t quite sure what to say. It wasn’t GT though.
Was in the middle of a Isotta limo restore when I quit. They are a beast

Porsche 911 and the Corvette. 1969 911S. First long wheel base with stock fender flares.

My Dad had a 64(I think)911s, bought it new, that had a pair of triple Webers. I got to drive it in HS, but it was worn out. He parked it for years and he pulled it out to restore it, but decided to sell it instead. BIG MISTAKE.
That’s a beautiful car!

I'm simple, always wanted a '93 notch back. When my Daytona is done I am gonna find me one

I almost feel bad for all the Fox bodies I butchered...but damn it was fun! Graduating in 95 put me smack in the perfect time. They were still new enough to be cool, but old enough to be bought right...and not like now, old enough to be worth something.
In a way, people like me are why they are rare to find one not messed up.
You're welcome🤣

Same here, I've had 13 fox bodies but not one notch yet. 89 LX 5.0 5 speed was the first car I bought at 17 without any help. Sure loved those folding back seats in high school!

Well, I had to play twister in the front seats with the hatch backs...The rear seats had the filler piece that made the flat floor when folded. When the seat was up though, it left a nice size dead space, perfect size for a narrow body nitrous bottle.

I didn't realize that 455 shaker was so rare.... I had a neighbor in high school who had a '76 w/ 4 speed I think. I got the new TA in '77 Smokey & Bandit version and it was a dog in comparison all smogged out and some shitty 6.6 litre making what, maybe 285 hp. Ouch.

de-tuning started in 1972 along with net horsepower. My 72 Challenger was rated at 240 net HP. My 68 Charger felt like a brute with the 383 and was quick or even faster, even being a larger car.

All 1973 and 1974 models had the shaker, but it had a factory block off plate. I drilled out the four rivets in the plate about 10 minutes after I drove the car home and tossed it in a drawer of my toolbox.

😁

The Super Duty option was announced in 1973, and it managed to survive into the 1974 model year. The SD engined T/As were rated at 295 net HP and turned mid 13s in the ¼ mile, more than a second faster than the '73 Corvette and almost four seconds faster than a '73 Mach 1. The standard 455 T/A turned high 14 second ETs. The dropoff in performance in 1975 was extreme. It was the end of the great Pontiac muscle cars.

Your 6.6 was rated at 200 net HP. Ouch

Around 1976 Rick Quant bought a 1956 Power Wagon at a Forest Service auction, I think he paid about $1,200 for it. It had a monster 6 cylinder engine, and in low 4WD it would climb just about anything.

Roo called it the Green Geek. We took it out rabbit hunting on the mesa at night. This was when the mesa began at Montgomery on the south and I-25 on the west and ran all the way up to the base of the Sandias. There were three of us standing in the bed hanging on to the headache rack with 12 gauge shotguns, and another person in the cab with a spotlight.

We would be hauling ass up arroyos and flying over dirt roads chasing the rabbits, barely hanging on and trying to shoot at the same time. It's a miracle no one was shot.

The truck looked like this one. It was a lot of fun.

A few years ago a chopped and dropped '49 Caddy that had a couple hundred coats of candy apple red over a silver base passed me going the opposite direction on a two lane Texas Farm to Market road (That's why you see road signs on those blacktops that say "FM xxx"). I almost crashed gettin' her whoaed down and turned around to chase it.

About the time I caught up with it we rolled into a little town called Nocona, where they've been making boots and baseball gloves for generations. There's no better first baseman's glove.

Anyway, the Caddy eased into a convenience store parking lot, and I pulled up next to it. Fortunately the owner was used to idiots like me chasing him down, and he was nice enough to tell me the story of his hot rod, open the hood, and let me sit behind the wheel.

The car was so nice it made my fillings ache. Just beautiful.

200 hp and at 17 I thought I was a king! Managed to wrap it round a pole freshman year of college lol. Bent frame oh well.
