The wife and I love Vegas and try to get there every few months.

I learned a while back to stay in hotels off the strip and have become a regular at the Westin. I don’t get charged resort fees or parking when I stay there and now have guaranteed rates for for peak and off peak stays.

After this deal I don’t see us going back there for a good while. Colorado legalized sports betting which starts May 1st. The local resorts are opening sports books and are pretty damn nice to begin with. Between the sports betting and the fact it’s only a 45 minute drive I see us spending a lot more time in the local Casinos instead of Vegas, I have a feeling a lot of folks will be doing the same thing.

I feel bad for Vegas. It never seemed to fully recover after the Great Recession. I’ve noticed a lot of cranes going up and a lot of activity picking up over the last couple years that indicated Vegas was finally making a real comeback. Just as it was finally starting to comeback this deal happened and halted everything.

Vegas won't miss a beat. One month after the country opens back up Vegas will be full. People like to party.

This!!!!!

I love when people say "oh we got a great Indian casion where we live" and don't see a reason to go to Vegas, but those are the same people that like Applebees and Olive Garden. I'm sorry there is no place like Vegas anywhere in the world.

Keep in mind people will not be traveling outside the US as much. Trips will be much more local to people; meaning national as opposed to international. Talked to a few buddies yesterday in Texas and Hermosa beach; both said the first thing they are doing when this shit is over is going to Vegas to party and go to pool parties. I just don't see tham as the oy people feeling this way:rolleyes:

Check out any instagram post by a casino right now and there are literally thousands of replies to their post thay say "we will be there soon as this shit is over!".

As for the Asians and other big whales; they will be back flying and gambling as quick as they forget to cover their mouths when they cough or wash their fricken hands. :D:eek:

People are so sick of being locked up. People are planning their trips and gatherings as we speak.

Once again, I am the complete opposite of doom and gloom.

to me Vegas and gambling in general is on the downturn

no offense to anyone but millenials or generation whatever beneath them dont gamble at all...

its kinda like Harley Davidson, which millenial is gonna ride a big scary ,noise making metal machine...

hence the charging for parking, drinks etc...

Gambling has been around for thousands of years and isn't going away. One generation won't change it. If that was true anyone who sells or builds cars, builds buildings other than apartments or sells food that isn't vegan should close shop now because millennials don't want a car, to own a home or eat meat.

Vegas isnt just about gambling it's about experiences and they have done a good job at following through on those needs of people that want more than a smokey casino.

Yup.

Vegas gets a crapload of my money. I’ve figured out the gambling deal well enough at this point that I now usually break even or come out a little ahead on the tables. It’s when I’m not gambling that Vegas gets and keeps a lot of my money, it’s fine dining, experiences like helicopter rides, partying with new people in clubs and bars and sh*t like that where the money ends up going.

We like LV so much, we bought a place there last August. Last time we were down there was September to start to make renovation plans. End of the year fell apart, so this month was when we would get started. Wrong.
If LV depended on our gambling spend, they would have folded years ago. Most of time I drop a 20 on the poker machines at the bar. Free drinks, band playing, great people watching, I’m good.

Vegas has kind of been getting rid of the gambling aspect, but it will never go away. Go to a sportsbook on a Sunday during NFL season, you can't even find a seat. Vegas is pretty resilient and tends to adapt. I do believe it will be a slow start along with places like Miami, but it will be up and running again.

I am a very cup 3/4 full kinda person , but I think you guys are a little different on your Vegas thoughts as most of you tend to live a few hours away and its not a big deal to drop in for a day or two or three. For the rest of us that are more then 1000 miles away , it involves at least a stay of 4-7 days to be worth the days you lose screwing around with parking , flying, parking ,renting , checking in.. We rarely go to vegas for a weekend . So for a business owner like myself to go usually takes a few month's of pre trip planning to pull it off. Everyone thinks having a pool all to yourself or less people on the sidewalks would be great , NOT the ambiance of VEGAS is the PEOPLE.. I plan to buy a house down there next year out near the track and for me it will be a central location to my kids , friends and river so we will see what happens . I do worry for what they will have to endure...

yore right should have just said gambling

Vegas itself has lots more going on for sure with convention shows and has turned into a Disneyland style place for adults and kids alike...

its just they make a crap load of money on Gambling and to recoup those kind of margins aint easy...

just my observation over the years... and not only Vegas but places like Lake Tahoe also..

always gonna have the whales playing ...

We lived in Las Vegas area for nine years, moved to Reno/Tahoe for eight and are back to Vegas when our new home is done next month.

Vegas has been very good at reinventing themselves. Now with the sports teams, restaurants, etc there is more draw in Southern NV than ever before. We don't want to live in Vegas because of gambling; it's everything else.

Just an FYI to those mentioning the parking fees. Many of the casinos are now getting rid of that. I think that is lame they even decided to do that.

Once things open back up a large part of those folks let go will be rehired. Each biz owner I've chatted with that let their people go did so so they could claim unemployment but also plan to rehire as soon as they possibly can.

yes and no
companies are furloughing and terminating folks. Both can get unemployment, however not all terminated will be brought back IMO. I think some companies will use this to trim expenses some.

I have 2 open FTE’s that I am interviewing for and already decided not to hire 1 and close it. Moving to a 4 person national team with resources positioned to limit travel

We were in Vegas for the Super Bowl this year. A lot of the sports books were “renting” seats inside the sports book. The seats included food and drinks but averaged around $250 a seat.

They spend Millions coming up with new ways to make more Millions. Thinks will change I'm sure but they will still attract people and make money.

Just happen to be in Vegas today (visiting my parents in BC and checking on our house).

Drive down the Strip today with my father. Thought this was pretty surreal and hope to never see the strip like this again.

Not one person waiting to get a photo in front of the sign so my dad and I took advatage. hahahaha Normally 100 people trying to get a photo in front of this.

Once this is over and people feel they are back to a normal way of life Vegas will be booming once again. For a short period they will have to lower room rates, cut out some of the absurd room rates, room taxes, bring back some great food and package deals and within a year everything will be back to normal if not sooner. People love to gamble, being stuck in isolation is giving a lot of people the itch to get out and do something, I bet we see a HUGE Surge in Restaurant, Vacation, Hotel, Travel and VEGAS business within a very very short period of time once people start to gain confidence that things will be OK and the threat has diminished to a controllable level. Vegas has also built up their convention aspect so much that once companies gain some confidence they will boom in that aspect as well. We will see...I hope our nation bounces back faster than ever imaginable and people are back to work and continue to work towards and live the America Dream.

I go for the food, don't gamble. I have diamond status with Caesars. With that status, they waived resort fees and parking was free. I expect to get near free room offers once they open. Before the virus I got a suite at Harrah's for $22 per night. A few months of cheap offers, Vegas will be back to normal.

I think its funny the is probably the first time Vegas has lost money. How's it feel Vegas LOL! I'm not a gambler and used to work in Vegas four to six times a year and sure they will be back and find a way to capitalize on this.

Ironic that we are talking about the odds on Vegas. A town built on gambling. It’s the only city that I can think of where people say “it knows how to recreate itself” or “if you haven’t been in a few years, it’s all changed”.
Is it going to be different-probably
But it will be business as usual once they turn the lights back on.
Remember-the house always wins.

Use to go twice a year for Nascar and NHRA. This year may be just three times. Went to the spring race for Nascar already. Hopefully the fall races will be going on as well. But for next year it will be four times of flying down, hotels or BnB's, food, gambling, entertainment and fun. We stay 5 to 7 days and spend a lot of money on enjoyment. I dont think I'm the only one willing to get back to enjoyment.
Vegas will be fine! This is a bleep on there radar, the big casinos will be giving good room rates and food rates until they are booked for a good year in advance. At which time I believe they will raise the price of rooms and everything else. International travel companies will be booking like crazy in the coming months. Airplane companies will also be cutting rates and booking within a couple of months as well. Vegas will rebound quicker and more profitable than most destinations within the coming 6 months to a year. Now, people that are going I suppose will not be spending the same amount of money they may have as if they went this year. I'm assuming a few less paychecks this year now maybe, maybe a tighter budget for the rest of this year, and so on and so forth.....but people want to forget doom and gloom news and politics. To spend a couple of days or a week of forgetfulness and enjoy themselves. Just my .02 cents.

This is from Tampa/St Pete. Bubba broadcasts from there and when this happened he had a very well known doctor on. The doctor explained how disingenuous this shot is. It's taken with a long lens, that beach is 1 mile long, If you had an aerial view of that beach most of the groups of people are 50 feet apart, But it looks much more dramatic when taken from this angle. Any grocery store is way more confined and worse for 'social distancing' than this is

Any US tourists based economy is going to recover much slower than everything else. The rest of the world is going to stay away until we get our shit together... Vegas will be the poster child for this.

Funny until he went squeezer/TDS on us. 👎
