I thought my driveway was steep. I had to buy a 4wd just to get the boat up the driveway. :p

It looked to me like it was about the same as yours. But I think the house is set as far forward on the setbacks as possible, making the driveway steeper. I don’t think it would’ve been quite as bad if he came in from the downhill side on a site side back.

People forget a lot of these are older houses that snowbirds built and didn’t give a rats ass about boat access, but wanted a nice view from the top of a hill.

The tongue weight here is over the hitch rating I’m sure

I am impressed Pete used NO profanity in that back in... I would have first started with "women if you don't have anything positive to say, I see a lot of empty sandwich hands"....and "I only need one corner man to give me instructions".... with a lot of colorful language in between....

Good job Pete.... the VRBO listing probably said...."easy back in"..... :)

Why would you not come down the street from the other direction and simply back straight up the driveway?????

That was my first thought as well. Always easier to back up on driver's side rather than blind side.

He needs to learn throttle/brake modulation.

Many people have no clue how to be a spotter for someone backing up. Having been in construction for many years and now an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) instructor, I teach how to properly spot.

I would not worry at all about the load on the ball. No different backing up a steep grade than pulling one. It is shock load that breaks things.

It may have been a bit of a cluster but the guy got the boat inside and where he wanted it.

I hope he chocks the trailer wheels once he unhooks.

I would have sent the women inside to make sandwich's instead of having them stand around making useless comments.🤣

This was the video that inspired putting a PIN in the trailer tongue to keep the surge brakes from applying. HOSS trailer, the whole tongue plunges into the frame to work the master cylinder. Literally, drilled a hole in the side of the tongue and use one of those pull pins/ "bimini pins". Line up on the street, let the brakes relax, pin it. Back up the drive way without scrubbing the tires, or blowing a tranny. Ours is a steep entry and flattens at the door. At most the license plate drags in and out. Pull the pin when you un-hitch so the brakes work on the next outting. 👍

that and why do people always pick backing a trailer on the blind side????
Guy probably works for the DMV, those fukrs always make you blindside the alley dock and parallel park for your class A🤬 I passed first time though 😉

I have a little magnetic bracket that slides into the tongue slots. It keeps the brakes from actuating while I back up my driveway.

Good friend has a drive that steep and 20 times as long.
Howard deck and F450 dually in 4 low.
It’s no problem at all. The truck is DONT do that angle or turn.
Straight once you hit the incline.
Also a biggest hitch set up you can get.
Not a Reese from pep boys

I’ve watched him, straight in. Follows the expansion joint on concrete. No creeking, no axle noises. Truck is barely working

I have a long uphill driveway at my California house (not as bad as the one on the video though) and I put a hitch on the front of my truck. I would get home with the boat, unhook and drop it in the street, whip the truck around and hook it up to the front hitch. Much easier to push the boat up the driveway from the front of the truck.

I have a steep driveway....not that steep, but I hate it. The views are cool, but not worth it for me. We live on the side of a hill and my kid can't hardly ride his bike because the road is steep, have to use the parking brake all the time, and to top it off the living areas are on the second floor. I'll never do it again!

If you don’t have one, install an electric surge brake lockout. Never have to worry about anything.

Ha! some of you know where my house is in LHC. go look at my driveway. you will see all of the scrape marks from putting / removing my Nordic from the garage. I had Mohave Hitch put rollers on the mid -crossmember & the rear most crossmember. It made it a little easier on the trailer. My driveway isn't as steep, but pretty close to this guys.

Our driveway in the house I grew up in was just as steep, but a lot longer. Price to pay living on a beach, below a bluff.

When we were looking to buy our havasu house that was one thing we looked out for. No way I want to hassle dealing with a steep ass driveway. Can't imagine how hard that is on the truck and trailer.

No doubt, steep driveways can be a bitch. Approach from the other direction may have helped. Keeping the trailer visible, on the driver's side, while backing can help.

Where was this guy when I was selling my house with the hump in the driveway? I had my trailer lifted 1.5" and it helped. Still had to come in at an angle, but once I found the right line, it was easy. I know that driveway killed the price on my sale.

If a realitor showed me that house I would have laughed and not gotten out of the car. Zero chance. I wouldn't even want to walk up that driveway.
I would have decided on another house to buy when the car door slammed on my shins when checking it out with the realtor.
