Jacos Marine is world famous for off-the-charts cheap prices. Their prices cannot be fairly compared to any place in the southwest that I've ever seen. Also, they will not sell you a motor unless you have it shipped to a Mercury dealer... The one who charges $5000 more than Jacos does for the same motor... And who will be the ones rigging it to your boat. I considered it once, but couldn't go through with it.

Yea, would likely still be cheaper to drag your boat there and have them rig it. I've bought several props from them, they are drop shipped from the nearest Mercury distribution center or a dealer that has it in stock.
I was lucky to find a dealer that sold me a pair of 250 XS's in the box and I installed them myself. He also sold me rigging for 10% above his cost. I was still close to $40K when it was all done and said for 2 engines, Smartcraft, cables, steering, wing plates, tie bar etc. I was replacing a pair of Bridgeports that was everything analog so I had to buy all new instrumentation and steering.

What is a vagina and are you supposed to tickle one if you catch it?

You're the one that said my vagina hurts. Maybe these bigger cats take longer to get to speed because of the extra weight of the cock and balls.

Nothing like the sound of a blown big block.:thumbsup

All v8's sound awesome. Not just blown big blocks. And that sound gets better and better with increasing rpm. 7000 and up is a whole world of better sound than a lot of the slow turning domestic street car v8's. High compression at idle also has an awesomeness to it's sound as well. IMHO.

I can appreciate car motor sounds as much as I can appreciate the raspy, pissed off 2-stroke sounds. For me, the OB's are cheaper and easier to work on. As long as it makes it to the lake and back, it's all good.

I am all fore the old two stroke 2.5 and 3.0 motors but the id take a pushrod motor over the new four stroke 400s they just to heavy and two many parts, would never work right on a 28 Skater.

I know the four strokes are the wave of the future Mercury just discontinued building the 300x long blocks I just bought the last two. :grumble:

You guys must not boat on Havasu because I never see them passing us bbc lol

Take a 22' foot boat. One with an io say a 5.7l may motor 300 HP. Vs 1 300xs. The car motor will get laughed back to the beach.

Liter for liter most ob will have similar comparisons on most hulls.

Amen. I don't think I would even be a boater if it weren't for outboards.

Hey Keith. Good to hear from you. One of my old Evinrude V4 boats is at Kevin's shop right now as we speak. Needed a new throttle or shift cable. Would have done it myself but I'm lending my old boat to a buddy who knows NOTHING about boat repair. And I'm out of town. So I sent him to RandR.

I am not a merc dealer and they shipped a brand new 300xs to me

I'll keep that in mind if I decide to order a new Merc from Jacos. Can I contact you offline if I decide I want to order a new Merc from Jacos? I was this close =><= to ordering a 175 ProXS Opti in spring of '15, when they told me they'd have to ship it to a dealer, and that the dealer would have to "activate" it. So I asked them if they have a dealer that they use in Southern Cal or Southern NV or Phoenix or Havasu. They had none. I decided to keep my 1987 Merc carb V6 going instead.

I am not disputing that at all. But when you start getting into 800+hp comparisons with twin ob's vs bbc it starts to change.
For me I like big V8's. I can see why guys like ob's.

If you are East of the Mississippi, then it's all about the Outboards.

I mean if we are talking big power, I'd take a single Teague 1500 with a #6 and you could not get enough OB's on a transom to match it. :D

I like my whackers. Reliable, quiet, fast. I have a ton of room under the hatch for activities.

Cool Deal. Kevin is super fair on price and is as honest as the day is long. He'll treat you right.

I'll agree with you there. I don't think you can go buy an I/O or v-drive for 10k that will run 100+, which is pretty commonplace for a performance OB boat. Sure, if you're talking BIG dollars, cubic inches and forced induction always wins.
