LA County today gets another half-cent sales tax increase. Some parts of LA County will be over 10%! (More than $0.10 on every dollar you spend).

Water rate hikes and rationing are coming

Farmers in the San Joaquin Valley aren't able to get water to grow crops, keep their businesses and feed the US (and the world) because state politicians would rather protect a little minnow.

The Cap and Trade bill will kill the US economy (the liberals used to call it Global Warming but now they're calling it "Climate Change" because the globe is actually cooling now!)

Please read this and other articles on this bill. We need to tell our legislators to kill this bill before it kills the US economy (click here)

We could talk about the health care plan and what that will do to us...

on the subject of water rationing, I was talking to one of my neighbors up on bean pot hill last week, he works for MWD. He was in Hemet last thursday dropping off equipment, he knows I live near lake domeghoni , and he says the lake is REALLY REALLY low, due to the fact that they have shut off ALL water transfers to ALL the resevoirs in So. Cal. due to the quagga muscle fiasco. I knew the water level was so low last year they were considering closing the one launch ramp as they could not "move" the facilities any lower. I can tell you 1st hand ( my ranch is supplied by 3 wells on the property, 2 of the 3 are dry ) life IS a real bitch when you turn on the fawcett and NUTHIN comes out .

las vegas has been on water rationing for years now. and we get all of our water from the same place pretty much.... the colorado river. it saddens me that we are un such a drought yet more than half of southern california is desert but theres no real water restrictions that i know of i mean sure it looks pretty when you have a nice green grass lawn and big trees everywhere but hell cut back on the water usage a bit. i think ca needs to buy some water desalizanation plants. maybe thats where some of the stupid economy boosting money should of went

I remember talking to some cali RDP'ers about pool cleaning and they were saying they drain there pools every month to clean it. WTF? here's part of the problem :thumbsdown I've never drained the 39 thousand gallons of water in my pool to clean it, that's what chemicals are for. That to me is truely a waste of water and obviously they don't give a shit about the water crisis that's been there for as long as I can remember, and I was born & raised there. You can bet we'll here bitching from them when the rates & rationing go up :D

You know if you use the political forum then it will gain steam, and subsequently be as popular as the lounge?

What does Cap and Trade have to do with water conservation?

There is some pretty strict water rationing going on now in So Cal, not sure it has been well publicized yet, but did get notices in the mail, and it has been on TV, but very little. Watering only after 8pm at night and prior to 6am in the morning, two days a week I believe, drip watering allowed for trees and flowers with no runoff permitted, etc etc.

Not sure it said anything about draining pools, since that didn't apply to me.

I do agree that this belongs in the political section, but RD sux.....................has the final word.

Just got a warning last month due to run-off from a malfunctioning timer.

I also noticed on my last month's bill (which was f*cked due to the bad timer; went from aprox. $62/avg to over $230; don't trust what your timer is tellin' ya) that they had "Casa de gig" down for 3 residents on the variance. In actuality, there are 7 full time residents and 3 P/T residents (Grandsons and step-grandson) every weekend. Petitioned for and received a variance adjustment. They didn't even take into condideration the 3 P/T residents taht are here from 2-7 days every week. The variance stated that a "normal" (and I use that term loosely) is allowed an average of 60 gallons of water per day per resident. It also states that if you own a pool, you may drain and refill your pool once every 5 years w/o penalty.

So if your in the EMWD district, check your bill and make sure the number of residents listed for your variance is correct. It does make a big difference. This month's bill was back down in the $60 range.

If you guys want water so much, just move to the IL. It rains every god damn day around here anymore...on top of which it's July and I think the high today was around 65 and a low of 54. Global warming my ass.

I have spent the better part of the morning reading the Waxman-Markey bill that passed the house. It is one of the worst pieces of legislation to ever be created. If you have interest you can read that and new legislation at www.washingtonwatch.com

Interesting note, they are proposing a bill to lift the 22nd amendment. That is the amendment that limits any one person from serving more than two terms as president. Interesting stuff going on, and with Al Frankken now in Senate, I think we are on the fast track to the systematic deconstruction of our country.

Actually it has quite a bit to do with it. The amount of energy consumed by water in huge. People don't realize the size of the numbers. Estimates for MET that I have seen (no guarantees, their not right in front of me) are almost 20% of the electrical energy in the LA basin. Now this is accounting for transportation, think lifting it over the mountains to get it there, heating, and treating it. Many of the new treatment methods that are becoming popular are hugely energy intensive.

Back to your question of what does the moronic cap and trade plan have to do with water conservation? A great deal. That is the particularly insidious thing about the policy. It will make many, many things significantly jump in price. Those $60 water bills? Try $100+ shortly after phase in begins. The majority of the cost of water is energy.

Wrong, where is all the water they are pumping (24/7) out of Havasu going then? The CO aqueduct looks pretty full to me at the moment.

We have so much excess water in Az that they encourage us to leave our hoses on and run them into the streets. I don't know what you guys are doing in Cali, but if your thirsty or need to do your laundry I'll give you my address and you can use my sidewalk.:skull:skull:D

#1 the government needs to say No.

No to new communities, no to expanded use, no to unplanned needs.

While 70% of the water used is agricultural...we need agriculture.

So again government is passing along the cost to the 20% that won't fight back.

Stimulus? Build some dammit catch basins, filtration stations, etc.

One issue about draining pools. Water becomes saturated about 600ppm to where adding chemicals to the pool is ineffective. Our water comes in at 325ppm...so it's good for a year or so.

Ban pools? Fine, then my AC bill goes up.

70% of the water coming into SoCal goes to watering landscape (lawns, pools & golf courses etc., think about where your's goes) so we have a long way to go before we can say we have cut back to the level where we can't do better. Get ready for water rates to double in the next couple of years. Southern California "was" a desert and will be looking more like it in the future unless the drought cycle eases.

Dave, I do use the Poli forum (thanks for leaving this thread here). This is seriously important and I appreciate you allowing this one about our future to stay here.

In regard to Cap and Trade and water conservation, I was simply listing some of the significant issues we're facing.

Cap and Trade is the mother of all tax increases and everyone should be fighting it before the President and his cronies pass it. It will crush existing businesses like you can't believe, it will put the government in our houses and cars and they will tell us what we can and cannot do (which lightbulbs we can use, etc.). Call your senators and congressmen and let them know they must kill it!

I didn't mention the healthcare reform bill - that'll cost us like nothing else except the Cap and Trade bill.

And did I mention (no, I didn't) the Value Added Tax our dear President is considering? VAT is popular in socialist, overtaxed Europe. We're gonna be like them in another 6 months - you watch. :puke:

Not sure what the problem is. We have Al Franken, Obama and a 60 vote Dem majority. Our problems are solved. These guys are going to seed the clouds and induce El Nino. Lakes will overflow. There will be no lines at Launch ramps and somehow, that will majically translate into $.79 cents a gallon for premium along with getting rid of all the morons on the river. This is change you can believe in.

I don't know anyone these days or those days who would drain a pool monthly. That's a hug pain in the ass and even then was more expensive than a couple of gallons of chlorine....

We have studied De Sal Plant for years and they work but your water bill will triple.. Water districts will not sign a 20 year contract to build and supply the water.
