Get a 3d printer, they are so cool, but damn they take a while to do stuff, and not like minutes we are talking hours, you can make cool things but patience is a virtue with stuff, its pretty mind boggling how it can take plastic flexible filament and poof you have solid objects, but you have to wait, just like Star Treks replicators except for the wait times.
right now i'm making 12 bins to hold nuts/bolts and adding color lip to them (9 hours)
And apparently the Bambu X1 Carbon printer i have is a fast printer compared to what is out there,

That's still a very cool product.

What do you think your cost is per container?

Not counting the fun of doing it or the custom side of it.

I’m a fallible fool that has been working on patience my entire life.

Wife has incredible patience.

They are all separate, its a system called Gridfinity, it's an open source deal, so anyone can make something that locks into the grid, then its free to download, so not just the bins but the holder for the Dymo, the milwaukee knife etc are all downloadable, and you can make stuff any color as long as you have that filament,

Dan are you programming this stuff, or using/buying existing files off the internet?

I haven't bought any yet, there is tons of free downloads available, you can start with most of them and then modify them to suit your needs, ( like the latches for the packout cases, ive been playing with doing my own, i did these Cigarette logos from a picture. ( actually not as easy as it sounds )

Can we get info on the printer you have?
Its a Bambu X1 Carbon with an AMS ( that allows you to have 4 different filaments hooked up at once)

So, I've been thinking I need a printer for awhile now. My big question is where people are starting with this. What forums, websites, links, groups etc do you like for beginning on this stuff?

Go buy a couple of these and take the bins out....

cheaper than the filiment you burned through

If you razor blade the nubs off the bottom (with your little milwaulkee box cutter in that cute little holder) they fit in the short snap-on tool box drawers.
Seriously? yeah i could have bought a Bayliner instead of a Cigarette and still gone boating. :)
Actually for some reason it appears i have an abundance of milwaukee bins ( not sure why) and yes they work for storage but i think the custom bins look way cooler
Another day and i should have enough printed out to finish.

I understand wanted to do things on one's own....but spending 9 hours and more money on materials for something you can buy for a few bucks? Even I don't have that much spare time.

You do you....glad you're having fun.

Print some boat parts.

I'm putting together a toolbox for the kid after seeing what he did my wrench drawer working on his bike the other day.....Thought it would be a good idea to print some socket organizers and wrench racks....then I found exactly what I wanted for less than $20 on amazon....they showed up before I'd have been done printing them.

I print stuff I can't wait for or stuff that doesn't exist already....works great for that.
