Don’t all those carburetor replacement throttlebody deals have the computer mounted where the fuel bowl’s used to be or something like that? Wondered if the holly sniper was the same, but I’m too cheap and will probably stick with carburetors.

The FiTech and one of the Holley's did that silly design.

They basically wanted to make it as simple as possible so any backyard mechanic could do it.

FAST uses a remote computer you can tuck safely in the passenger compartment. The high end Holley's do the same thing.

Jim @bonesfab is a dealer for Holley. He's the man to talk to if you're considering Holley.

It worked, but the driveability was for shit...

Cold starts were awful, and tip in was wrong at any speed. And yeah, the idle sucked too.

I told everyone...

Putting a computer on top of a hot engine really isn't the best idea! Their money, their problem.

I had real good luck with FAST. 👍🏼
Wow! This one did all of that perfectly...I was really worried about throttle angle, being a 4spd. The owner just wanted it to cold start and idle well. 30 degree mornings were no problem, and he drives it all the time now. Like I said though, mild to wimpy motor. Fun, but no rocket. If one came up real cheap, I'd try it.

Now, just before sundown, I hammered the hell out of "Fred". Secondaries opened, long 2nd gear pulls. Sounds stupid, I know, but 3.54 gears wound up in second is actually moving pretty good🤣 No problems at all...not a cough, stumble or attitude of any type. Parked and idled for another half hour, occasionally rapping it up, not a hiccup. Manifold surface temp at 190ish, coolant temp at 180. Well hell...I'll get back to it this week, time permitting.

Weird. I am actually seeing all sorts of strange fuel related issues lately, maybe they changed the blend of ethanol and did not tell anyone?

Sucks when it happens to you! Nothing like a little smack to get yor attention in life lol....even mechanics are helpless sometimes!

I've had a couple issues lately myself. My wife's Mini Cooper had nasty ass sediment in the fuel filter. Literally looked like fine sand. This weekend was my second scenario when my youngest sons jr dragster started giving me shit. He's 7 and on gas until he turns 8 and can run methanol. Fuel bowl and tank had the same type of 'sandy" sediment in it. Fuel jug I'm using was clean and I use a fine strainer/funnel when filling the tank. My wife's mini gets super unleaded, so not sure how this crap is getting in there?

I run into that all the time now. I think pulling Holley float bowls it gets dumped in the rags. Edelbrock and early carbs with tops, you can find some of that sediment in the bottoms. It looks like a darker version of Glamis sand. I'm thinking it somehow combines, and makes it through the filters as a much finer solid in suspension?

Last time I was stuck in the heat with no AC was coming home from the river. It was one of those 115 days. Put the big cooler full of ice water right behind me and every 15 min dunked a towel in it and wrapped my neck and head with it and windows down. By the time I got over the Cajon pass and it was 90f, it felt cold! Literally, felt like a nice 70f breeze. Wild day I don't miss it lol

It's a 1500 Silverado long bed. The color is a custom "Krylon Blue" with "Appliance White" wheels and roof:D

If the Prius had an 8ft bed, it would have been in service today! It's a pile, but a pile with AC🥵

The ethanol in the fuel collects water out of the air into the fuel which reacts with the aluminum in the tank and/or carburetor creating aluminum oxide (the sand) and is sometimes darkened by the residues that create varnish. (or even rust in steel tanks)

It's a huge problem in boats at marinas that have aluminum tanks. HEET AND ISO-HEET are fuel dryer additives that will bond with the water in small amounts and keep it from reacting with the aluminum.

obviously the best solution is running ethanol free fuels to begin with.

This. Seafoam is also a great additive that helps remove water. Seafoam also has alcohol in it but it's isopropyl rather than methanol which has much larger molecules and wont permeate the aluminum causing the oxidation, It will however bond with the methanol and help to keep it from doing as much damage.

The 87 up TBI fuel injection units were not much better than the quadra-toilets. I dont know how to fix the dual saddle tank switch over GM bean counting poor engineering but can say from experience gasoline in the arm pits hurts like a MOFO for a couple of days when your trying to fix it. I did it twice on my dads trucks when I was in my early teens, thought he was trusting mechanical aptitude until the second time...Old vehicles are cool to drive but so unreliable. I spent many a night wrenching on 70's-80's daily drivers on work nights just so I could get to work the next day, if you have the means do a late model power train swap.

TLDR but, those old gm tank valves are power on - one side, power off- other side.
Power off means when you turn to start, it kills power to valve, which switch’s to that tank. If that tank is empty….
