I was wondering all weekend and then today after reading threads I’m kind of curious…. Lake Mohave was dead Memorial Day. Pretty noticeably. It was a little more busy for the 4th but still relatively dead. The drive home both holiday weekends was quick and easy. So I’m thinking ok what about wait times. Years prior getting the boat detailed or serviced there was a wait list. Is it still the same? I don’t know anything about ppp money or any of that because I’m a W-2 employee and I’m lucky my hours are pretty consistent. That being said even though I feel like I’m making more I’m not really saving more, but I’m also not in debt so I sleep ok at night. I won’t ever refi the house because is paid off in less than 10 years and I’m too dumb to understand a heloc so I won’t do that either. As much as I hate to say it it’s basically cash or I can’t afford it now 😂😂 but is that the norm? I hear credit card debt is rising and I do hear a lot about helocs but I don’t understand them so I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing. But anyways I’m just more curious on how crowds have been. Personally I know it sounds shitty but I like that boating cost money and not everyone can afford it. I wouldn’t mind the crowds dying down. I’m a raider fan so dont get all pissy but I’m tired of the raider fan crowd messing up my peaceful if that makes sense

We were commenting about the crowds ourselves in Havasu, at least down by the springs. The boat traffic was pretty tame all weekend, got gas at the outer harbor on Thursday and it was dead there when we went.

There were a lot of parked golf carts down by the ramp but didn’t seem like the place was all that crowded and I don’t recall seeing the Park Full sign they usually post on holiday weekends (ie I saw it Memorial weekend).

Parker seemed more crowded.

We were in Steamboat for a few hours Thursday morning/afternoon and it was not that packed at all.

This was Thompson Bay about 45 min before the fireworks. It was busy but I honestly thought there would be way more people/boats.

I was there Sat-Sun, went to Pirates on Sat, lots of traffic heading up river and the channel was pretty packed in the afternoon. We had a beverage or 2 at the Nautical, pretty packed at the pool bar. Sunday was very nice, not crowded at all, went to the springs for breakfast it was about 1/2 full at 11am. The drive home to Phoenix at 6pm the 10 was a shit show, tons of traffic, the most I've ever seen. I'm thinking normal holiday business for Havasu. Went to the Office Friday night when we got into town, bar was packed but the resturant was not busy.

The channel seemed busy but the lake traffic overall was light. We headed out in the afternoon of the 4th and maybe encountered a couple dozen boats on the ride from Thompson Bay to 3 Dunes. Shockingly, we rolled into 3 Dunes and into one of several open beach spots. The whole weekend, it seemed pretty light, actually.

It was kinda weird.

I hate the 10 in Phoenix. From Avondale to 43rd this morning took longer than my Cali commute. Crazy busy

Stayed near the beach in OC since the forecast was so hot. A few others in our group stayed home due to heat and some went and came back early like Sat AM. Some years I would boat all 4 days as I did on memorial weekend. Friend said they got a real nice cove on Mohave friday that normally has a group of boats in it. Said it was pretty empty on the lake and the heat was okay on the lake but off the lake it was blazin. I may go this weekend.

Weekend was empty cause it’s was 120
I dunno I feel like it’s always that hot in BHC. I can’t say the heat bothered me anymore than normal 🤷‍♂️. I got sick a few years back working in Phoenix. I’ve never been the same since then, but this weekend I was fine. Not even a headache

Memorial in havasu was the busiest I’ve seen it in the last 10 years. 4th of July was mild in my opinion. I feel the head drove alot of people away. As far as details and servicing boats I think it is still a month in advance minimum. Money is out there still. As far as PPP or the ERC that shit is long gone by now.

I feel like it’s usually around 114-115. The 118-121 mark was significantly different if you ask me. Boat rides weren’t even enjoyable in the afternoon.

The 10 was traffic from Quartzite until it goes to more lanes at Buckeye, sometime 45 in the fast lane. It's normally 85-90 the whole way on a Sunday evening.

I think for me anything over 90 is hot and the same to me. I didn’t look at the heat before leaving Cali but with as little time as I take off it wouldn’t have changed anything. In all honesty the wind bothers me more than the heat. I think Friday was a little windy. Maybe the crowds mean nothing at all and I just think too much 😂😂

I’m going to have to say most people agree with you. My wife and mom are past the thinking stage about getting a pool in the back and in the find someone and get it done stage. Being at the lake in the water I was fine. Bbq in the backyard I was miserable

We just filled up the pool. It absolutely changes the trip. The house is more usable year round.

Bad wind? Way too hot or cold? Boat blew the motor? Well we can still enjoy the pool!
Maybe some people don’t want to go boating today? They still have a fun place to enjoy.

Yup, and my mom and dad won’t launch the boat so if they take the grand kids it’s perfect to just hang out

With the comments and my time on the water this weekend around the island. Low number of people out and about the lake but channel busy. Were people just hanging close worried about spending $$$. It did seam like there were far less boats out and about town over the weekend. Most of the time there are boats after boats on the streets and in driveways when we drive around on a holiday weekend. That was not the case the past few days. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

As a general rule of thumb……… You don’t want to trade unsecured debt for secured debt.

Also…….. The waterway in SoFlo was a complete cluster F, all weekend. Insanely busy.

Maybe inflation is getting the best of the masses?

IDK most of my friends that have boats, and the money to use them.... just say they're not using them as much as they would like to. Too long of a drive to get there, too hot... and they say usually it's too crowded. Maybe everyone is just getting old lol

Agree with the “it’s too damn hot” crowd. We were in Havasu. Could have taken the boat out or jumped in with the in-laws. Rotated spots between yard work, pool and house.

That being said, we skipped eating out on Saturday because every meal is $$$. I flew to Atl and hit the Hooters around the corner for lunch. It was $30 f’g dollars for 6 wings, fries and coke.

I think the economy it putting a slow down on a lot of things .
Boats , RV, sand toys they all slowed down .
A lot of high end builds and toys are moving but the standard/ basic are not so much.

Only went on the water Saturday launched at the Marina was in first row of dirt lot at 945 and no wait to launch. South end of the lake was dead and retrieving was kind of a shit show with the typical morons at the ramp but overall not bad. Windsor had a line both days we drove by.

I will say I do feel like it’s way more “work” than I’ve ever felt before. But part of that is the house and the garage are always a mess and we are never there long enough to really get ahead

Yes.
And the volume of park models for sale is the highest I have seen.
Just saw a PM listed for 160k.
Something has changed and folks are moving on IMO.
Plus the uncertainty on what is going to be built in the dirt next door.

We are not sure we will be back next year. Might submit 3 or 4 long weekends for the RV and that is all.
Looking forward to stealing @RiverDiva RV vacation agenda from 2023 and 2024 and doing that in 2025

I started going to the river in the non summer months after 20 years of going in the summer months. It is so much easier and nicer you feel spoiled. Once you experience that spoiled feeling it's tough to go back to the old routine and "torture" yourself.

Agree. We have many trips booked for sept and Oct. It’s also a plus for me cause I hate putting the Bimini up.

I will say that the last two trips the Bimini never came down and that’s very rare for me. My wife tells people she doesn’t do the dam run because I refuse to put the Bimini up. She’s not wrong 😂😂

It was really busy in the keys. We went to the sand bar Thursday and got buried in 3 deep so we couldn’t leave. My wife was over it after 4 hours and asked some people to pull their anchor and let us out. 😬 Needless to stay we didn’t leave our canal the rest of the weekend.
