Had some dude come in the other day, told me he was gonna buy a simulator and wanted to set up shop, then asked me if I had any space to set up his equipment when he buys it, you know we could be partners. Next day he calls me and says I have a space now, I want you to come see it and I have a proposition for you. I check the space out and he wants me to provide the simulator now, and that I should move one of mine to his location. I ask him about his business model and he starts telling me how much he’s gonna charge and it’s gonna be very profitable and that he’ll run his student through it, blah blah blah. I wish him well and leave. Today he’s texting me and says he’s decided not to go into the business and he’s gonna give up the location, but he wanted to offer to sublet it to me first. I decline and let him know that his story has changed 4 times in the 72 hours I’ve known him, and I have no time or desire to deal with people who are not straight forward.

Then he hits me up and asks what my rates are as he is just going to use my facility and teach students here. I gave him the same rates he was telling me he was gonna charge, which are 5 times my rates. At this point he says that’s not the rates you said yesterday, and I told him that i changed my mind and now agree with him😂

I asked 5 different people about this guy, he owes one money and the other four all had nothing nice to say about him, matter of fact they all mother fucked him immediately. He’s a shit ball, just out for himself and always looking to get his hand in someone’s pocket.

If he shows up I’m not gonna let him in the door, just gonna shoo him away 😂

Unfortunately I’ve wasted about 3 hours on this turd at this point☹️

When I had the machine shop, this was a weekly thing. We did a lot of work for inventors that were going to make billions of dollars. They'd be willing to share some of it if, I did all the work and they took all the credit. My favorite one is, you make the first one for free and I'll let you do the next 5000 for full rate. That being said, there were some that walked through the door that I took a percentage of the sale. The first one was a cardboard box taping machine that sold to 3M. The second was a camera that fit on the barrel of a swat members gun. The third was a lightning system for amusement parks. All of these are common place now. There were many more as time went by. I hold only one patent. The rest I sold when the patent office gave me a file number. You just never know what the day has instore for you or what will walk in the door. You have to weed through the BS but, dont let opportunity pass you by.

Good deal you figured him out early.

I used to have many people come into my shop with big projects they wanted done and then after a few days talking to them off and on I would figure out all they wanted is for me tell them how to fix XYZ or how to diagnose the issue.
I got to where I could spot them right away and told them I charged like an attorney and that they were on the clock and I need to be paid hourly….COD.

I never had a big fish customer that came in and right away started telling me how important that they were.
All of my big fish customers started out just needing something minor and then kept turning up the volume.

More and more as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to trust my gut. Nothing more frustrating than wasting your time when you knew it was going to be a shit show from minute 1.

I really try to give people enough rope to hang themselves and not get caught up in bullshit. It never ceases to amaze me just how full of shit a real bullshitter can be. I hadn’t crossed paths with a real shit bird like this guy in a while.

Some red flags I’ve noticed.

When someone tells you how good they are at something, how successful they are, how much crap they own etc…. They are usually full of shit. However every once in a while they are just full of themselves and how successful they really are and just need to let you know 😂

LOl Try hard money lending, Ive heard it all.
The relentlessness displayed in such short time is a shameless display of desperation and shady ness. I can’t help but think about the folks this crazy old man has taken for a ride over the years.

The internet has created more people that live in fantasy land than people that live in reality. Even my son is starting to go down that road. It's going to get real for a lot of people soon.

Created, or exposed?
I think created because they think they social media is the way to become rich. If you watch some of this garbage you will see that it indoctrinates people into believing it. The successful people of the next generation will be those that did not have access to technology.

The successful people of the next generation will be the ones that most effectively leverage technology. People of the next generation are already digital native.

Social Media didn’t create anything new, it just amplified what was already there, and many times disproportionally.

There were always bullshitters, and con artists. People always were talked into believing. Social media just gave them more reach.

I disagree. I think AI is going to turn the white collared industries into low return on investment industries as competition is becoming oversaturated. The blue collared industries that require some sweat labor will have higher returns as this next generation does not want to work or do anything that requires physical labor.

I think we are confusing disruptors with bullshiters here.

Those blue collar people need to sell and advertise. They are still going to leverage social media and AI to drive their businesses. The ones who best leverage technology will win.

I agree. Do real work, real good, but use technology to leverage it. That's the way to go.

Facebook groups for example are goldmines. Never in the past have you had such easy access to any industry you can imagine. If you can add value and be likeable, you can make a lot of connections and learn many things.

I’m a union carpenter but technology has put me in the position I’m in if I really think about it. I’ve excelled in procore, sketch up, and could build with the best of them. It was like my golden ticket

I don't know, I am finding myself using social media much less. It's all commercials or people posting for business. Less and less is enjoyable posts to watch or see. What happened to Myspace? I bet most of the people on here only look at FB to see what boats are for sale or to check out a couple groups. ROI on social media has dwindled for most. I'm betting there will be something new coming about in the next few years to take it to the next level.

I follow a couple plumbers and electrician pages. I enjoy them but I know they are charging a premium. I think the average consumer likes the idea of perfect clean work until they understand what it costs.

Then all of the sudden the gardener is fixing it lol.

Anytime someone wants to "partner up", that's a big nope right there.
Here’s the thing. Even if both parties are straight up and contribute evenly and as prescribed, it’s human nature to think you are getting the short end. I’ve “partnered” on a few projects with really good friends and every time it has tested the friendship to the verge of breaking.

I have been seriously considering a partnership with a friend for quite some time now. The thing is this, friendship is worth more than money to me. Not sure I’m willing to risk it.

This is so true :)

It's amazing how much more it costs to do it *perfect* and how few people are willing to pay for it

Edit: I originally had it say right, and that's not fair, you can do it right and not have it be perfect. It's two different standards

We are no longer the prime demographic for social media. Facebook nearly is useless anyone under 25. 😂

The new thing is here.. it is short form content, like TikTok, etc.

I can make a panel look perfect. Take a photo for you to keep. Once I put that cover on though no one knows or cares what it looks like lol.

But I bet a “perfect” panel takes me an additional 4-6 hours.

That's not true, it looks nice when the next guy opens it up before he absolutely destroys all that hard work in 60 seconds moving around circuits to scab on a subpanel :)

So, you have a location and two simulators, why would he even think you would need him?

Unless his skills and experience complement yours and personalities mesh, it won’t work.
Our group thinks I don’t do shit and for the most part they’re right. I have a knack for creating relationships and keeping them.
The “work” side lives in a black and white world. Mine is all gray. It’s rare, but if I get someone that’s unhappy, make them happy. If they are habitually unhappy, go find someone else to be unhappy with. If they’re not willing to pay for top quality work and service, go find someone else. This has saved me a whole lot of headaches over the years.

He’s just a scammer trying to get into my pocket. This dude is 75 years old and has been scamming people in this industry for 40+ years. I’m just considering a right of passage for this turd to try an hustle me at this point 😂 All the solid established guys I asked about him were hip to tricks and had story’s, some ending BK’s, lawsuits and a few fatalities. The youngsters have not been rolled yet by this guy, and I’m guessing as long as he’s breathing he’ll keep on scamming and hustling whoever he can.

I think our business model may have potential to scale, but I won’t have a real opinion on that for 12-18 months.

The only ship that does not float is a partnership

And for social media who is following all these people, if you have something going on in your life do you really have time to visit some wanna be pretenders profile all the time.
I believe we have kids following most of the content on social media
