A friend of mine from school has a place on Cedar Creek, Texas. I don't know anything about it but it is her weekend get-away and the pictures are beautiful.

Grew up in a small town in Tennessee on Lake Holiday. Private lake with all custom homes. Ours was the 5th or 6th built in 1968. My father purchased the lot next to us so no one would build on that side. Funny story of our neighbor on the side of the wooded lot that had moved down from NY and had a shit ton of $$$. Him and my dad didn't see eye-to-eye and he was having a split rail fence built between his lot and the wooded lot but he fuked-up and built it about 2-3 feet on my Dad's lot. My Dad knew it from the start but let the workers finish the job which took several days. The day they finished and drove away my Dad had a surveyor come out and verify what he already knew and proceded to the neighbors front door and told him to get his POS fence off his property...the next day they started tearing it down and proceeded to re-build it. :D

Both my father and step mom passed in the late 90's and we sold the house and spare lot for $268k, just enough to pay the inheritance tax. :grumble:

A contractor from Ohio purchased it as a retirement home and gutted the hole place...it was stunning once he finished!

It's a common misconception that those two things can exist with each other. They can't. At 110*, even 50% humidity creates a heat index of 151*. Heat index is when they say it "feels like" a temperature when it's another temperature. At 110*, a more common humidity level would be 20-25%, which would create a heat index of 112-117*. What you will get in the south a lot is 90* and 80% humidity, top of the scale for sure, but it happens. That's a heat index of 113*.

Slow down Bill Nye LOL. I was painting a picture. You got what I meant. ;):D

Also with some of the lakes along the south are snakes ,alligators and bugs that nibble you to death ! I agree with the principal of this post but as a trades worker I need California income . Buying a lot is a great idea though for when retirement comes .

You all would be shocked to see what you can buy on Lake Lanier, Hartwell, Keowee, etc. check out http://www.lakehouse.com/pg.php?pg=browse_map.

Was just at Hartwell last week. The house I was renting was 4 bedroom, 4 bath, 3600 sq ft 1/4 mile from the launch ramp and valued at $463k. Water on these lakes is all very clean, warm in the summer, tons of places to go.

keowee is where were looking my son lives in greenville as long as there no fricken alligaters...

My 2 cents worth of at 70% of you guys and girls that live in SoCa...You put up with Fucked up traffic Mon-Fri Then finish up Friday to Pack the Car Truck Or what have you.
Drive Fri Late Afternoon Early Eve Fighting :skullTraffic yet again for the Relaxing weekend in Havi Mohave Parker..What Ever...Get there late Fri unload then Sat Morn pack shit and Kids Friends Ect and head to a Crowded Boat Ramp...Then possibly get harrased by a Boat Cop..Spend the Day on the Lake (weather Permiting) then head back to a crowded boat ramp..By the time you get to your River House or rental..Clean Fuel boat for a half day on Sunday...Same Thing...THEN The HELL Ride Home...Well Folks Fuck That did it and will never do it again...IMO

This.

Before we had our son, it was easier....stuff a few clothes in the seat pocket of the truck, a cooler full of beer, and we were off...leaving at 11pm and arriving at 3am didn't seem like a problem. 10 years, 3 dogs, and a kid later...it doesn't work like that anymore.

Now, It's a pain in the ass. I'm 247 miles door to door...running 75, I should be able to do that in about 3.5 hours. I don't think I had but one trip last year that I made it in under 5...most were 6-7 hours with all the damn traffic. I don't go unless I can make it a 4 day weekend.

That was part of my motivation to buy my new to me 19' CC that I can have in the water in 20 minutes down in Long Beach. I hate sitting in the truck for hours on end.

Unfortunately thats how we have to head to river but instead of house we hit a campground at needles or pirates with a cabover.Boat is ready to hit water and ramp is not crowded we dont take a whole lot just found it easier to hit topock for lunch or dinner spend the whole day on boat sat.come back anchor it off then do some morningboating then head home.

It beats a house payment and we do like to try other lakes too so this gives us options but yeh traffic does suck seems like it takes more time coming home with the construction on the 40 and headed down cajon pass. But i just get home back up the boat and put it away after work on monday.

There's definitely no gators in any of those lakes. Tons of VRBO on keowee, you could rent a house on the lake and get a feel for the lake and area. If you didn't already

Keowee is a great medium size lake from what I saw of it. Plenty of close by businesses with Clemson being so close. And you have access to the other 2 lakes in the area.

Gators don't get that far north and I never saw a poisioness snake in any lake in that area during my time there. It ain't the Outback.:skull

Looks great, well except it's directly across the river from International Paper Plant and this coal burning East Kentucky Power Plant :eek

Kinda spoils the serenity just a touch :D

Absolutely and probably the reason why we can't sell it. I like the idea of having the dock in the back yard for around 50k. Not many places in the world where that is possible. The OH River intrigues me too. I like the idea of being able to use the locks and travel as far as I want to go. I wish they would put locks in on the CO River a week trip from Parker to Powell would be amazing.

Interesting that it's new build. Was it spec built or something else going on ? I agree the price is killer and being on a river that leads on essentially forever, is intriguing. That's why I looked, but OOPS "The Plant the Plant" :D

Edit: Just looked on google, damn the info on this place is all over the board. Originally sold in 07' for $ 148K, then a year ago for $ 139K, now $ 65K :headscratch: Some info shows 1 bath, some 3 baths, there's a story here somewhere :eek

Shhhhhhh, this is around the corner from my house. West Oxnard is the best kept secret in Southern Ca. That whole part of the harbor was punched out about 10 years ago, (was the largest harbor extension project in 40 years in Ca.) new shopping center, high end water front homes with docks, luxury apts, condos and work/live spaces. Place is bitchen. But not exactly cheap. :eek

Bitchen harbor, restaurants, yacht clubs, sport fishing, Channel Islands (which are like another world) 14 miles off the coast and beach front homes too. 30 minutes to Santa Barbara, 30 minutes to Malibu. [emoji106] IMG_9228.jpg

Coeur d' alene is awesome but again...Only really 2 months out of the year if you want to enjoy sunny days on the water. The rest of the time it's freezing ass cold.

We have property on Lake Pend Oreille up the road a bit;)

I had to bring this back up for a weather update.🤣🤣🤣

Nice little weather break through the area right now. Think it'll hold or will it get more cold weather before summer really hits?

I'm trying to get up there asap but stuff just keeps keeping me from being able too. Gotta figure our if we're going to keep or sell our place on pend Orielle. I'm banking that after the HUGE development where you guys are building is done, it's gonna drive property through the roof on pend Orielle. So, I'm kinda holding out for that. LOL

Since I am a Realtor up here in the Coeur D Alene area I thought I would do a search for all waterfront homes currently for sale.
A total of 57 are on the market now. Starting at $375,000 and going all the way up to $13,000,000 Click link below to see them.
Damn it, now you got me browsing and dreaming! Some decent prices IMO compared to the crap my realtor buddy here in Cali keeps sending me.

Oh it’ll get chilly again I’m sure. April/May are usually a mix of warm/cold, you can’t really plan much ya just get out on the nice days if you can.

Well it looks warm anyway. But I’d have be falling off the dock to find out. Speaking of docks, we are running down the lake to Shooters tomorrow. Do you know if their docks are accessible? I know CDA levels are higher than Pend OReille .

Damn.....didnt you just finish this? What's next?
We’re going to build our own, this house was about 95% done when he bought it, so we did not really get a chance to design it. We like living here so much we are going to buy a lot in our neighborhood and build our own exactly the way we want it.

I can say you won't find much better waterfront homes and boating to go along with it
I've lived in SE Florida on and off my whole life.
When I decided to sell (east coast) and move to the gulf or west coast it was night and day.
The same house I bought here $500k and change is with a mill 2 on the east coast
And quite honestly better boating, just here in Cape Coral we have over 760 miles of canals and Waterways Hardly see any cops with the exception of holiday weekends
Plus everyone (for the most part are very nice people)
Plus the lowest crime in Florida
For the life of me I could not see myself Ever Boating out west Ever again
You guys in Ca are nutty lol

Good to hear...this is on my short list.

Maybe (when time permits) revisit your move and now that you have been there a bit, detail out the pros and cons of living there.

I would be all ears!

Thanks!

It’s gotten super expensive to park a boat on a lift, next to your dock. I grew up living that life style in the summers until just a few years ago, when we put the place up for sale.

My parents bought it for $16,500 in 1961. It was on a triple lot setup. We sold it for $2.1M, because we could no longer enjoy $10’s of thousands in property taxes, $1000’s in dock/hoist permits, and then installation and removal every year.

Our family lived the life for 60 years.

The company that bought it is tearing it down, and building condos with a community dock.
