Yesterday the housing cracked on my water pump on way to Topock. Curious what the thought is on water pump vs. Crossover kit? With everything off the motor I can go either way. What I have

N/A BBC 540
No thermostat
Thru hull water pickup with sea strainer
Consistently runs at 10PSI water pressure
Motor water temp is 100-110 deg

I was told that the automotive style water pumps aka circulating pump(?) Is useful if you have a closed loop system. Otherwise run the cross over.

Bummer about the housing cracking. Concerned with that myself. Might need to upgrade to the stainless version.

Totally sucked. On top of it the bilge pump in center sponson broke where hose connect. Was just recirculating the water.

That blows. Every time I buy a boat I put a new bilge pump in it. In fact, looking back, every time I buy a boat I end up taking it apart to "clean it up". Lots of parts end up getting replaced, but the ones that are still good end up in the toolbox in case they are needed in an emergency. I've convinced my wife that it's for our safety, but in reality I'm OCD and I need to know everything is done right.

Sounds like your deal could have been worse, glad it wasn't.

Nice meeting you at 3 dunes on Friday. I went to the crossover and have no problems. No t-stat either and runs 100-115 degrees consistantly. One less belt and accessory to worry about.

Are these crossovers like you would typically see on a jet?

I did not know you were a RDP member. Nice meeting you as well. Good to hear you have no issues with the crossover.
