New addition. Bracelets are super comfortable on these presidents.

Are you up to speed on the Sea Dweller? I think it's projected to be one of the most wanted Rolex watches because the run was so short.

The SD43 ? I don't think its going to be discontinued anytime soon.

Or are you talking about the SD4K ?

SD4k was only a two year run. Obviously discontinued. The Sea Dwellers never had a huge following.

Yes. I have a SD4k. I want a Daytona for a 2nd. My father I law has a Panda that he has worn twice.

Yes he is talking about the SD4K. (He doesn't even know what the watch is he wears everyday!😝)

Hahahaha I knew it was a SD4K but didn't realize the difference between the SD43.

Retired, I don't need a dress watch anymore. But I want one.

Just ordered.

Hell yeah! Welcome to the Constellation family. I hardly need a "dress watch" anymore, but believe me that you can get away with it in more casual outfits, I wear my connie with tshirts sometimes, definitely polos. Enjoy. I was supposed to buy my World Timer this week, but work is fucking around on my promotion so I am a little gun shy if this all goes south right now. Fingers crossed.

43 is a much bigger watch. Thought I might want when then tried one on. I wore a deepsea for years, then as you know the SD4K, I've been downsizing what I like the older I get.

I’ve got a n 116660 Sea Dweller…44mm and overall it’s also pretty chunky.

I do love chunky watches, but they sorta suck when I have to wear a suit.

Longings makes very good watches 👍

Even though my watch flipping days are pretty much done, I never got into them because they were harder to flip than blue-chip brands.

Thought I would ask here…

Looking for a gift for my fiancé for the wedding day. He is in a blue suit with brown shoes. He does not like gold. He just has a smart watch. Looking to spend up to $1500. Doesn’t have to be the full amount, but what are all your suggestions? I know it’s not a great budget.

I would look into Hamilton's mechanical watches. Easily can be bought in your budget and are Swiss Made really decent watches. They make a lot of nice looking good quality watches.

In that price range, I think Oris watches deserve a look.

I still have two, they’re very good watches with a strong following.

Oris makes a solid entry level piece.

Bought this on eBay almost ten years ago, it was pretty beat up. Polished the case, new bezel and Omega rubber strap. It’s now one of my favorites. View attachment 1152817

That was the last watch I sold, it was a about 2 years ago and needed money to float my business.

I regret selling that watch more than any other (the rest were flips/trades).

Beautiful detail, and slim enough to wear with buttoned sleeves. Truly a classic omega design that will only get better with age.

Don’t ever sell it.
But if you do, call me first 😊

If it is to be worn with the wedding outfit, definitely something dressy on a brown strap would be perfect, blue dial even better. As others have suggested, start with Hamilton, though they are mainly famous for field and other tool type watches, not as dressy. Next look at Oris, Longines maybe. Seiko as well, the "cocktail time" series is great, I have one myself, and that's at the bottom of your price scale. A few hundred bucks. I have the "skydiving" cocktail one myself.

Not the best photo, but light blue/silver dial with inky blue strap. Many many color combos available.

I do not advise getting them with metal bracelet, I think they are terrible, strap is not much better, but still better:

I would personally be very stoked on a Hamilton Jazzmaster or some options from the American Classic series. Here is a filtered link with some options to consider.

Is it a wedding (dress) watch you are looking for? ($1500 is a perfectly fine budget.)

I like the Baltic HMS 02 ($400).

Lots of good suggestions above and more:

Thanks guys! Great suggestions!

@ChevelleSB406 suggestion of the jazz master is winning me over a bit. The romantic side in me likes the name “open heart” since it’s his wedding gift. I only had time to quickly glance. I still have to look at Oris and the other suggestions more closely. Thinking a brown band is best.

Hamiltons are also great pieces.

Remember a watch on a bracelet is typically more useful in general than a leather/ animal based strap simply for water resistance.

For those who may have missed it in UD’s post:
Metal bracelets
Leather/rubber straps 👍

Yes I consider myself a WIS (watch idiot savant😊)

Now that our conversation was almost over I realized what my biggest anxiety was in meeting a watch collector – not that he would think I was stupid, but that I would think it was stupid, that I would find it all frivolous, and have to manufacture interest. And it was frivolous, I mean, strictly speaking. No one needs ten nice watches. Paradoxically, I found this to be the appeal.

“There’s something about the pointlessness of watch collecting that’s very soothing – that I really like,” I said.

Williams laughed. “So you must like life,” he said.

Awesome thread - great watches. So much cool stuff out there. I am not a collector I wear my watches daily and have them cleaned and polished. Plan on passing to my boys and god willing someday grand children.

My father passed this to me when I was 16.

WTF is up with watch servicing costs these days?

I’ve got an Oris chrono with a common 7750 movement, I’m getting quotes for around $1k to do a basic service.

I can buy an all-new 7750 movement for less than that.

Archer (does service by mail) isn’t taking new customer right now.
