In Tom Clancy's novel Red Storm rising he depicts a group of Warthogs flying in at wave top underneath radar towards Russions destroyers and aircraft carriers in a mock exercise.
The A 10's armament was capable of easily penetrating a warships armor...and sinking battleships &carriers
He actually had to testify before congress after writing his book in order to Explain how he came up with this battle plan&scenario.

Apparently this was part of an actual warplan against the soviets fleet.
Fascinating stuff...

Sucks that they will be done pulling the A-10 by 2029, I had a retired Air Force E-9 Chief Master Sgt. as a partner back in 2004 and he used to tell me stories about declassified missions and about the A-10 and the amazing accuracy and damage they do. He said the men engaged in country used to calm down when in the shit and they heard the A-10s were in the area ready to help or should I say destroy...

I was on the Constellation (CV-64) carrier on a tiger cruise with my enlisted Navy son. We had 2 days of flights ops with the A-10's. This is something I will never forget. They are awesome aircraft.
