I ran out a fuel with the gauge at a quarter tank.

Of course I didn't Know I ran out a fuel, it just started running like shit! 🤬

I'm on the way to a doctor's appointment, so I parked it, called my neighbor to take me to the doc, and my daughter brought me home after.
I was pissed, I didn't call the tow truck till around 10pm, and it sat in the driveway for Weeks.

My first call was to @Flyinbowtie

We discuss a few things, I check em out, but no resolution was found.

So then I call my BIL, to ask what 7.3 experts we know, and he reminds me about @catmandu on here, duh!

I give Doug a call, and we check out the lift pump on the frame rail. It's buzzing like it's supposed to, but it just doesn't sound right.

And...

When I pulled off the intake line to it, no fucking fuel comes out! Shit!

So I put 10 gallons in it, and the POS starts right up. Shit Fuck!

Now the gauge reads a half a tank, and have a single 50 gallon tank.

I go fill it up, and it takes Exactly 25 gallons.

So yeah, I ran outa fuel at a quarter tank cause the fuel pick up fell off.

Just like a Chebby oil pump pick up, the damm thing just slides on! 🤬

Guess I'll be pulling the tank out soon. Meanwhile, I gotta keep it above a 1/4 tank! 😜

Glad you found the problem. Different looking pickup, probably plastic and broke off from age!

You could always do a Beans Sump on the bottom on the tank and abandon the stock draw straw. It can be done without dropping the tank as well.

While you're in the tank shorten the vent line flush with the top of the inside of the tank. It will allow for about 5 more gallons in the tank. It's called the Harpoon mod or something.

I did the Hutch & Harpoon mods (dumb names) in my 7.3 tank years ago. Went from 28 - 33 gallons (short bed).

Edit:
Harpoon/ Hutche mods
