Went through the Maintenance Hangar the other day and thought I would share some cool pics. The amount of stuff they can do in house is incredible. I didn’t take pics in the paint shop or sheet metal shop, but it is equally impressive what they can do there. They have some massive presses to fabricate all kinds of cool parts for the planes. The engine shop has 7 bays to assemble or take apart new motors at one time. They probably have 8 or more of each ready to go at any moment. They can swap out a jet engine on a plane in about 3 hours. This is a 737-900 Max and a Leap 1-b motor. The titanium and carbon fiber fan blades are so cool.

One of the most amazing things though, are the carts the mechanics build for fallen service members. All these carts are built on volunteer time by employees. They ship them out to all of our stations, hoping they never have to be used.

Looks like they added the Space Force now alongside the other branches. This particular cart is for one of the stations in Washington, you can see they have a Washington state flag inside.

What service are they doing on that airplane? That airplane went into service on 01/05/2022 and should only have about 5330 flight hours and 1501 flight cycles.

I don’t think it was anything major. They had a big tour coming through so I think that motor was just placed there. I didn’t ask them what specifically they were working on.

No worries. Could have just been an overnight maintenance call.

Anyone seen a 10mm socket?

I am truly impressed by the behind the scenes operations. R&R a 737 engine in 3 hours is an amazing feat.

Is this what you do for a living or was it just an opportunity to go in there?

I fly them.
Before I retied from Fedex in Las Vegas as an aircraft mechanic this is what happens with a catastrophic engine failure of a GE-90 on a triple seven.
