You haven’t lost anything unless you’re desperate and need to sell off your investments. I don’t know your financial situation but if you’re selling today I’d agree it’s going to be a rough weekend.

For now I’ll just buy stocks at a severe discount.
Paper net worth affects consumer confidence. I don’t feel too excited about spending a nickel right about now. We’re 10-15 years out from having to live off investments so it will all shake out in the laundry another time or two. Can’t say the same for my pals that are retired, or planning on retiring right now. Some not so happy conservative voters in that boat right now.

So you're against American industry?
I’m all for 100% capitalism and capitalist society. You compete to win and let the cards fall will they will. Better faster cheaper, that’s what wins the race. American are unwilling to be cheap labor, until that changes there is an entire globe of broke fuckers who are hungry and will work for cheap.

I think the American Auto Workers would disagree. And fuck shit made in China and overseas it doesn't last for example I had an American Standard water heater last 24 years I'll be lucky to get 5 or 6 our of the China piece of shit.

American capitalism, mmmm should start and end in America in every aspect.

No body is against American industry .
Yeah I get that but we need to free ourselves from China and that will help with our supply chain issues. Make more and better shit here and we will rely less on overseas crap.
I'm also sick of the excuse about Americans don't want to do the work. Good jobs will get good workers. Yeah build shit overseas with cheap child labor ( i bet you guys eith kids wouldn't want your kids or family members working in that environment)so the shareholders get bigger dividendsrings!!!!

NAFTA was the biggest mistake thanks demoshits and rinos!!!!

Everyone knows paper assets are a roller coaster. Maybe these people that are relying on paper assets mainly, to fund their retirement, should have diversified their portfolio to include more tangible assets along with paper. Paper assets are never, and have never, been a guarantee.

And I see some comments that are coming off very selfish, thinking about themselves now and the hit they are taking. What about thinking about their kids, grandkids and future generations.

So I should be happy about loosing 30% of my paper net worth over the last 90 days and chalk it up as working hard, investing for my future, making wise choices along the way to insure I’m not a burden on my children first and foremost, creating the ability to give them a better platform to launch there lives from so they are not a burden on me?

Just so supposed to bend over and take one for the team here with a smile on my face because “MERICA” yeah fuck all that I’m a selfish prick, I’ll own that LOL

Apparently some of these folks need to fire their “investment professionals” for not lowering their risk profile. Ray Charles could see a market correction coming. 😎

Never once did I say you should be happy about losing anything. But you knew going into paper assets that it's no guarantee. Hell you could lose it all tomorrow. How many lost their minds when the stock market fell when covid hit? And got out with what they could get. Then some didn't freak out (well as much anyway, nobody was happy about it) and invested more, while low, only to see the market come back. Have you lost your initial investment? if not then that's good. Investing in the hopes that someone else succeeds is alway a gamble. Hell who knows, this time next year you could be super excited because your portfolio has tripled. Hence the roller coaster effect.

Creating generational wealth with paper has been achieved by very few in the big scheme of things.

I'm just saying holding tangible assets as well is very important.

This is all just my opinion and we all have them. I just think it is to soon to tell what will come of it.

No one is happy about losing money that's for sure!

If your competitors prices go up would you raise your prices or would you just leave that margin on the table?

They will most likely keep the "initial product" price the same but, the "packaging" price will most likely increase, as most of the packaging is made overseas. In turn increasing the "consumer product" price.

To overcome this, buy it by the keg as they are reused so "packaging" price will most likely stay the same, keeping the "consumer product" price the same. More beer, same cost. It's a win, win🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣

Oh no the price just went up on junk cars what will I ever do lol. I say protest all this new crap because that’s what it is. Ford with their ecoturds, and powerjokes, GM with their flat cam drop a lifter burn oil specials and duracraps. Wake up people, quality sucks across the boards and not with vehicles with appliances and everything. There’s lack of quality in everything we use, nothing lasts like it use to. Everything is throw away which is from importing so much from China. Yeah it made people rich but we rely to much on foreign supplies and we don’t take the same pride in what we do make. This is an opinion and I’m sure it will hurt feelings but it is what it is…..

You don't get hurt unless you sell.

Good time to buy is now.

Mexico and the emerging and will soon be a big player Vietnam are coming to good tariff terms with the USA.
This will all settle down soon enough.

I’m just a dummy here but if I was an American auto company I would be happy as a clam right now. All the foreign companies are scared shitless halting production, raising prices, stopping shipments. As an American auto maker you can now capitalize on the American market and increase sales and market share just by the foreign companies fear and impacts of tariffs. Seems like a winner for them even if they feel some pain of the tariffs because not every part of the car is made here, but they won’t get hit as hard as the foreign cars 🤷🏻. Either way America first and no more free handouts to the world.

If you are losing 30% in 90 days…you are not investing…you are riding a bullshit narrative. What percentage of long term bonds are in your portfolio? They just appreciated AND act as a hedge. Where is your gold? Gold has beat the S&P 500 for 25 years and just hit new highs!

Tariffs are the catalyst not the cause of revaluation of equities….which have appreciated the most in human history over the past 10 years…as well as other risk based financial assets like real estate. Turns out that when you have huge trade imbalances…the country must sell assets and debt to balance. Another way to think about it is that the money we send overseas for product ends up competing with your children for a house…it inflates stock…when production can’t be shipped overseas the newcomers are brought in to suppresses wages…for inflation sake…lol.

You may not realize this but you are betting against our nation. Maybe find a new financial advisor.

Hypothetically speaking, for those who own gold, do you actually hold the physical asset, like gold coins or something, and keep them in a safe or safe deposit box at the bank? I’ve never owned gold, just gold mining stocks that track the price of gold, just because of the pain in the ass of actually holding bullion. May be worth a look.

Gold stock is a paper asset
Bullion/coin is a tangible asset

At least that's how I see it.

One thing Covid taught us was that we cannot rely on other nations for our necessities, we need to make them here. We did when America was being built & we can again. Otherwise the world will hold us hostage, basically always having us by the balls.

That being said, I say we just tell China to fuck off, and don't let them ship one more thing here. Then we will be forced to produce what we need. BUT, most peopel are not willing to sacrafice there trinkets & cheap shit made from child & cheap labor. Just sayin'.

Yes physical gold. If it’s in an IRA or you just don’t want to deal with it…sprott physical gold fund. They vault the gold and trade an ETF.

Ordered a new TDI Jetta for the wife. Electrical problems from day 1. Sun roof would open and not close (great in Havasu in the summer). Electric lock on gas door would not open intermittently (dealer took the lock off). A/C issues etc... The final straw was when we were on a 700 mile road trip and a check engine light popped up in the middle of nowhere. I ended up talking to a tech at a dealer back in San Diego and he advised us to turn around and cancel the trip. Nobody local had a scan tool that would work on it. Got home a sold the POS to Carmax.

Walmart would go out of business. It seems their entire business model is about selling a high volume of cheap shit.

Good thing your older pals didn't retire last year at this time.

April 15th 2024 the dow was at 37,350 lower than it is today. I am not saying this isn't painful, and I share your concern but things will shake out over time. Most people do not remember even 6 months ago, they just look at today's headlines.

Wife's brother owned a shipping company.
He had precision designed ships from the drawing board to hold a certain amount of vehicles, run at a certain speed, burn a certain amount of fuel for a certain specific voyage time frame to accurately calculate and control cost.

They shipped BMWs and other Kraut built vehicles both ways across the Atlantic.
.
Man o man the bullshit they go through with a stow-away.
Following the rules and laws doubles, in some cases triples the cost of the voyage.
Throws good accounting all out the porthole

A hell of a fuck story the ship goes through as he tells it.
Mind blowing.
Someone has to pay for it. You are that someone.
Happens all the time regardless of the precautions they take.

Trump is changing that.
Dock in port, call ICE, done deal.

I'm 100% good with "Made in America" I buy only Fords #2 least Imported trucks. You can't go any place and find American made anything. All appliances GE, Whirlpool, all the old name brands are made in China. We the american ppl woud be SUPER SCREWED if China shut us off! WE are not just dependent of China we are addicted! Yes, we will have a lag, but let's build our toasters in the USA, now jobs, bring in on.

Was curious what the part sourcing for GMC trucks actually looked like. Found this chart on line.

The 2025 GMC Terrain is assembled in Mexico, and includes 49 percent Mexican parts content, with just 15 percent of its parts coming from the U.S. and Canada. The 2025 GMC Yukon, a full-size SUV assembled in the United States, maintains 37 percent U.S./Canada parts content and 37 percent Mexican parts content, a similar distribution to the Sierra 1500. All of its engine options (L84, L87, and LZ0) are built in the U.S., along with the transmission.
