Looking to get some interior shutters (white). A friend just got some vinyl, looks real nice. Pretty much can't tell the difference b/t wood and vinyl and way way cheaper than wood.

My concern is discoloring or yellowing and warping over the years. Wood I can always paint. Vinyl, I assume not paintable.

Of course the Sales people say no problem they won't discolor....

Any experience with vinyl and/or pros and cons?

I’ve had both. I prefer the wood but like you said vinyl is cheaper. I haven’t experienced discoloring

Vinyl is certainly paintable...I'd get vinyl....you won't have to do any prep other than cleaning. Mine have not discolored at all in 4 years.

We considered both, settled on the vinyl. Both look great, but the wood is by far superior. Couldn’t commit to the price of wood, was cutting into my beer $. If money is not an issue, buy wood. Vinyl doesn’t suck though

The new house we just bought has wood shutters and my older house had vinyl and both are good, my vinyl ones are probably 10 years old and have no discoloration.

My neighbor with the same floor plan as us has vinyl and we have wood. The only thing my neighbor noticed is that the vinyl were not as sturdy as the wood. The window is a large window and is only noticeable when they open the shutters. The shutters literally sag when open. All the other shutters on the small to average size windows look fine.
