One of my customers hits all the Junkyard‘s on a daily basis hunting for vintage aluminum rims. When he finds them, usually the guys at the junkyard take a sawzall and cuts the tire off and damages the rim in the process. Somebody had already welded up this rim and did a shit job and when they ground off the weld the slot from the Sawzall showed up again. So the proper way to do it is to V groove out the slot so you can get plenty of weld rod into the valley. My customer has a guy that can grind this rim down and make it look like new.

The yard just wants the rim for aluminum recycling. My friend hits all the Junkyards and says you wouldn’t believe how many bitchin rims and classic cars that have gone to recycling and/or the crusher. He gives them a finders fee if he gets a phone call that a 65 impala, for example, is heading for the crusher.

Nice! What fill rod did you use for that? And why?
