Dave I have been through this but more severe. Uncontrollable eye movements and severe motion sicknes.

get to an ENT specialis.

look up “BPPV” it’s a crystallization of the inner ear liquid. Causes are dehydration or an ear infection.

look up “Epley Maneuver“ to verify weather you have it or not.

Good luck.

If you pass out and wake up with your head hurting, that’s okay. If you pass out and wake up with a sore butthole, that’s when you need to worry.

another symptom of the latter is a missing wallet

I developed vertigo, it became more noticable as my vision slipped a bit. I assume that my vision had been compensating somewhat for the lack of balance. For me the saving grace was that I lost my motion sickness with the vertigo. For the first time in my 65 year life I can go out on our sportfisher without having to use (mostly ineffectively) Dramamine, Antivert, etc. , even in fairly rough seas. Doctor wanted me to do some exercises to free up the crystallization in the inner ear, I respectfully declined.

To get the most accurate reading, your doctor should measure your blood pressure twice, with a brief break in between. If the readings are different by 5 points or more, have it done a third time.
Before you tossing out your BP monitor, do test it a few times more. 120/ 80 is normal, jumping to 178 reading is unusual for even a inaccurate BP monitor. Have you stopped smoking begs the question? If not, maybe it's a wake up call to do it for good and the sake of your family.Wife has been on BP medication for two decades and the dosage hasn't change for her. We have the same doc for over 30 yrs. A doc with your medical history is best, compared to having nurses checking you occasionally.
If you getting a new BP monitor, get one with a automatic inflating cuff model. I don't have one, I always use the in store BP monitor in Safeway by the pharmacy. Never failed for me.

There is something that stacy started taking for sea sickness that doesn’t make you drowsy like Dramamine abd is 100x more effective. She swears by it. I’ll have to ask her what it is

I was curious if they were gonna test me, but I had virtually zero of the symptoms of covid so I wasn’t tested.

The lady did tell me the covid floor was packed and many of the staff had contracted it from

So long story short the vertigo was caused by what appears to be a sinus infection or upper respiratory infection that I didn’t even know I had.

They did several physical tests and there were no signs of anything brain related / stroke related

When they did the vertigo tests my eyes were stigmatized the same way a drunk person’s eyes are during a field sobriety test. They were bouncing.

Let that be a lesson to the officers apparently You don’t have to be drunk to have that, just a sinus infection.. (that again I didn’t even know I had)

They did an ekg, another heart monitor test they watch, they took blood and did a chest x ray..

The treatment at the Lake Havasu Hospital was fast efficient and first class as any place I have ever been (nicer actually).

All tests came back good.. All the blood work actually came back better than it ever has (I have lost some weight) l. Sugar levels even though I ate an hour earlier were normal.

my blood pressure was completely normal the entire time at the hospital. They think my home blood pressure machine is messed up / reading way high.

either way vertigo is scary shit..

I have never experienced anything like that in my life.

RD

Its alegery season. Sinus infections are common. Hopefully they recommend some sinus spray for you, along with the antibiotics.

Glad to hear you're ok.

Before the Covid crap started my Dr told me I could bring mine in to check it vs their own equipment.
I don’t see why someone still couldn’t?

I've done this. I brought my meter in and worked it, then they did it, and it was only 1-2 numbers off. They patted me on the back for it and gave me a cookie.

I've suffered from vertigo, but have also had ear/tonsil issues as a kid and later allergies. But only when I lived in SoCal. Living in Oregon as a tween/teen, I had no issues. I have not had vertigo since 2011 King of the Hammers. That one was the worst yet. I even threw up. Hopefully, it never comes back.

I think I'm really just allergic to SoCal 😂

If they put you on BP meds, be warned, some really make you cough, all night. I had to switch mine, and it took two months for the coughing to completely go away. Don't just stop taking them.

Glad to hear you didn’t have the big one.

Now...when are you going to get serious?
You have to stop smoking, you have to eat right, and you MUST get on a cardio program.
Believe me I understand not wanting to,
I would cross people off my friend list for saying that to me 8 years ago. I wish I had listened then!

Let’s get serious. If Dave hasn’t changed by now, he’s not going to until some life changing event smacks him in the face. Hopefully, he survives it.

Have you had a reoccurrence or had a chance to check your BP at home on a new device?

Still having bouts with this. It goes away and come back and goes away and comes back..

Sometimes mild, sometimes it feels like you are riding a roller coaster on the couch.

Right now I am @OG Shockers house and doing alright. Up / Down

I have had the exact opposite happen. I never got motion sickness until I got vertigo. I can’t go in the ocean without the patch now. I even get sick driving my sand rail. Dr. said there is really nothing that can be done.

Maybe call the mobile IV chick back?
Just kidding, but seriously, get it checked out again by another doctor.

Did you do an epley maneuver? its the only way to correct it If you have actual BPPV vertigo. It kicked my ass for half a year.

Chiloquin. Heard of it??

WOW...... That's about the worst place in the state!!

We did a job at Crate Lake 18 years ago or so, and the fire sprinkler kid was staying at the hotel there in Chiloquin. He ended up getting stabbed one night at the bar by some drunk Indian dude that thought he was someone else! The fkn cops won't even go into that place unless there's some real shit going on!! I spend a good amount of time in Kfalls, I like it there!

Bonine? Wife swears by it.
thats what i use when i go on sport fishers. trick is to start it the night before, gives it time to get into your system. I dont get sea sick too often (knock on wood) but i figure it is cheap insurance for the time i money i wrap up into going fishing.

Dave, while we're at your vertigo issue, what about your ankle? Do you do physio for it? If you haven't, you better start if you want full movement of your ankle for the future. You don't want to be gimpy before you're old and grumpy. ;)

Yeah, it's pretty rough these days. It's a dying town, all boarded up. You can thank the eco-nazis and the spotted owls. There were two mills in town when I was a kid. Both closed up in the mid-80s. The only decent jobs there now are the railroad or forest service/national park, and you have to know someone to get those.

If you go to https://www.dizzydoctor.com/
Dr Purcell has a set of goggles that you can buy to record your eye movements at home.
This way you can get recordings of your eye movements when you are having an episode.
Its hard to diagnose bppv if your not having an episode.
You can also upload your eye movements and have a doctor look at them.
The goggles hook to your cel phone and use the gyroscope to help guide your head location.
It works very well

The vertigo mostly is gone.. If I’m out in the heat for too long I get a little “weird” similar feeling. I am getting over some kinda minor sinus infection.

I am super bummed to read once you get it once you are most likely going to get it again in the future. It was terrible. I never puked but my stomach was jacked and I was on the toilet constantly from it.. at some points I was close to puking etc.

My girlfriend suffers from high BP, we’ve seen those numbers before and even a little higher. Visited the ER numerous times. As you know that bottom number isn’t good. Good luck. I’m sure they’ll get it down.

I don't know if anyone has brought this up or not. I have Meniere's and it fucks with my balance. It also comes and goes. Do you have any tinnitus?

I have tinnitus and it sucks. When ever it’s quiet I focus in on it. If I wake up at night it’s all over I have to get up because it’s all I hear. I haven't heard of anything to get rid of it..I blame it from the job sites mainly the fucking steel studs. Remember many times fucking lazy assholes dropping bundles of studs to the concrete. I used to get pissed and slam a bundle of conduit to the concrete so they would get the hint.

My friend has it and you have my sympathies.... I've researched it to better understand and man is that a bitch. No cure. He had a friend have surgery and the result was losing hearing in the ear and tinnitus still persist. He thinks it was shooting lots of guns at young age.... your guess sounds about right as well. I'm trying to think what he says works a bit to reduce it.... perhaps weed. That seems to be folks go to these past few years for about everything.
