I would start by calling spectrum asking for a better deal before going through the effort. I did this to Frontier a year ago. My bill increased from $50 to almost $100 witin a couple months and I was like WTF. I called and said I want a new contract at your current new customer "deal", and they signed me up for two years back at the $50/mo rate.

Not sure how many home internets Verizon offers, but we are using the white cube one that functions off of the 4G/5G network. It's basically a hotspot that is on all the time. While it may not be as fast as a hardwired fiber deal, it works great for us and we do stream a lot of Netflix/Amazon Prime. I also work remotely and don't experience very many connectivity/bandwidth problems.

We have our cell phones with Verizon, so we were able to add the cubes to our plans...one at home and one at the river house. They are about $25 each per month for us.

Don't believe what the website tells you as far as availability. When I put the river house address in, it said the service wasn't available. But I took the one from home up there to validate that and it works just fine. As long as you have strong Verizon signal wherever you put it, chances are should be fine.

I switched from Cox to Verizon 5G here recently, mainly because I was having issues with Cox and streaming even though I was paying for 500 mbps, and was never getting that speed. No issues with it so far, and its almost a hundred bucks cheaper.

Same here...$350 for cox internet and TV, now $35 for Verizon and $65 for YouTube TV we get about 129mbps download speeds runs everything we can throw at it.

I pay $75 a month non-promo rate with Spectrum. The internet has been great for us. Not uncommon for us to be streaming 2 TV's with 3 or 4 phones and a computer or 2 on it all at once with zero lag or anything.

Had Verizon FIOS for a while but it kept going down on me and I started to work from home, so it was a deal breaker and I switched to Spectrum. I assume they just jacked us on the rates as well since I heard the wife cancelling a couple subscriptions with them yesterday... Following the Magic Box thread now.

On the Verizon, I live in Coachella Valley (desert...) and my FIOS box was on the sunny hot side of the house, so that may have had something to do with it, but I complained a bunch of times and they sent people out each time but it kept happening, so I switched...

LOL, Frontier kept going up every couple months, I was paying $118 for 100mbps and home phone only.

Switched to spectrum, $54.00 for 500mbps internet and home phone.
We'll see how long it stays at that price.

We have the 5 G Verizon box in our house in Mohave Valley which is almost 2000 SF. Runs TV's, provide quick internet on the computer and allows cameras to work well. Even have service in the garage. Very happy with Verizon and a $50 a month, well worth it.

I got tired of dealing with some of the same stuff you are and just went with Starlink. Yes it is more expensive, but it is worth it to not have the wife bitching about the internet.

I switched from spectrum to Verizon,
all was good till last week, apps on my tv stopped working and it was due to data throttling, after calling customer service which was no help, I downloaded a vpn app to get everything working. It’s kind of annoying so might make the switch back to spectrum

We have had similar issues, all I have done is unplug for 10-15 seconds and plug back in. Once it resets, all good.

Yes at times local tv will be off and even the kids Disney + app will give location faults

Even though A simple disconnect and re connect of the vpn app solving the issue it takes away from the kids handling the remote

I have been debating the switch. I pay for upto 500mbps with Spectrum and last speed test I got 81. Barely enough for the magic box but sure not good enough to work from home with Teams and Zoom meetings all day. The next package below me is upto 300 so Im annoyed I can't even get that much.

You should call their tech support if you’re not even getting the next package down in speeds. Maybe a bad termination or some inline couplers between the pole and your cable modem. They can check that and sometimes home run the cable modem and see if that improves things.

Can those of you with the Verizon home box/deal move the box to another location(as in RV camping) and access internet?
Or is getting a mobile hotspot device a better option?

All depends on where the closest tower is, probably easier with a hotspot.

Probably depends on location. I'm in Coachella Valley and Verizon put my box on the sunny side of the house, and I had about 1 downtime episode per week and work from home since just before COVID. Called and called, customer service was good because they kept coming out and "fixing" it for me, but eventually switched to Spectrum and have had few problems since.

We dropped $90/month Spectrum for Verizon 5G. Locked in to $45/month for 5 years and got a $200 gift cars. Works great, never have had an issue. We stream, multiple Ring cameras, laptops, tablets, etc. Works perfect.

Spectrum offering 2 year price guarantees out here
We're on the verge of dumping ATT and it's either Verizon when it arrives or Spectrum.
In the meantime holding still.

Dropping Spectrum because of their constant price hikes. Switching to Frontier FIOS tomorrow if they crap the bed Starlink will be on deck.

Welp, went down to the Verizon store and picked up a Cube. Hotspot(jetpack) wasn't viable cost wise nor does it give you the same up/down speeds.
Guess I will see how it works outside the city. Says 1 bar reception is all it needs to function.
Nice that it is not a contract deal so I can just cancel if I choose to, 30 day no fee cancelation is available too. $45 a month w/autopay, 2 yr price lock.

I totally forgot that you can take the cube anywhere you want as well.

That's our main goal with it. RVing/camping in outlying areas that have cell coverage. Even if 5g isn't there it will work with 4gLTE.
We were told you can have up to 5(or6??) Cubes registered to one address, so if it works really good it may be the direction I go with the actuall home network.

kinda slow right now but 17 devices connected at least 3 are streaming. I'm working. T-mobile 5g home. No complaints. Saving 200 a month between cable and internet. I don't miss it at all.

I sent mine back a month ago.

Couple things:
During the "Free Trial" they include the shipping time in the "Free Month" which is actually 3 weeks.
Calling customer service to get it connected to my router took several attempts. More time wasted.
Calling customer service to complain about the SLOW upload speeds (like 3-5 MBpS). Their answer...put the cube by the window. It was already in front of a window. No change. I send many Jpegs daily to the property mangers I work for.

After all that I basically had very little "Free Trial" anything. The download speeds were pretty good. It took forever to send a single picture.
End result they charged me $86 because I went over the free trial by a couple days. They became quite adversarial when I objected.

Will not work for me.

Got the same thing and it works great I think they throttle to 25 Mbps.

If you put it under a biz name ( can still pay with personal credit card) the price is $39/ mo and you can take it with you on the go. Home unit as I understand has to stay put.

I walked out of the store with it already running on the network. Plugged it in at the house and in less than a minute was online. So far so good in my 15 hours of connection😂😂.
Your purpose is different than mine. If uploads aren't sufficient then you did the right thing to quit it.

I sure wanted it to work. Maybe someday it will and I can go back to it. Significantly less expensive than my Cox Cable Internet @ 115 a month with fees.

Seems plausible they save the bandwidth available for folks streaming and sacrifice the upload speed.
