Hello all;

I am struggling to insure a vehicle here in California. My Land Cruzer is plated but fully put together as a rock crawler. My insurance guy won't touch it. (yeah, I'm pulling all my business from him). I am looking for on road, liability, theft, the usual stuff. I cannot use is currently as I do not have current tags because I do not have insurance.

Anyone have suggestions for something on it? I would prefer a stated value policy as its worth several times what a standard Land Cruzer is worth.

Is it old enough to cover as a classic or collectable? That may open a few options for you.

Grundy?

I know Hagerty won't touch it as they wouldn't do my Ex because of the lift.

surely our RDP insurers could figure it out with all the sxs and sand cars that I'm sure are out there

Beautiful build.... That's a custom buggy with very little Toyota left.:)

I have no idea who would cover that but it wouldn't be a standard policy insured as a regular Toyota. You will need a specialty policy so you can get stated value coverage. I don't know anyone that will cover an offroad loss.

Not actually worried about the off road part. I'm worried about getting it thorough DMV and things like theft.

I would check with grundy or perhaps Brad Stern here on the boards I think he can write some funky stuff. I would just make sure the application shows exactly what it is.

As far as DMV thats is a different animal especially if you are in CA.

Just replaced my 5 year old Cadillac XT5 with a Lexuit RX350h, and my insurance premiums doubled! Holy crap!

You’re gonna pull all your business from him because he can’t insure a rock crawler?

The insurance market place is so wild in CA right now, some people can't even get coverage on a Kia Or Hyundai, let alone a custom built rock crawler.

Hybrids and electric cost more to insure. Still seems rough but nothing surprises me anymore.

Make sure the annual mileage is correct. most companies are now setting defaults that are higher than what you may have been rated at.

I just price shopped my Allstate policy with progressive. So easy to get a online quote with progressive and pick and choose what you want. Renewed the allstate even though it was a $1000 more a year. Buddy is the agent figured that's his commission.

I price shopped because it went up a $1000 every 6 months. My Agent told me 6.7% increase each year it was a lot more.

progressive, geico etc online quotes are notorious for having great intro (first term rates) then you get a surprise renewal.

If you're in CA, most carriers are having massive rate increases. Ton already hit this year, and most carriers have another 20-30% increase filed for next year.

Lol, did you know the XT5 was engineered by SAAB? GM stole Saab's thunder of its 9-4x version release due to gm's BK debacle.
Just sharing a little known trivia.😊

Banner Ad on RDP top Right corner. Brad Stern Insurance. The link is broken. @RiverDave banner ads don't work. LOL :) This is a perfect example; I don't think anyone suggested the advertiser for this forum.

I thought that might be a issue. But the price I am paying compared to others I know just seems high. My personal truck policy is now $1400 more than my commercial policy.

It's like $250 a river trip just for insurance on my 2500hd truck that was $54K otd with add ons. Doesn't seem right thinking dropping it to minimal coverage instead of what it is. Save me $1000 every 6 months on the bare minimum full coverage.

That new ski is only $259 a year. Like free compared to auto insurance. My 05 Tundra that's worth 5k at most is over 900 a year with minimal coverage.

Yeah, I drive 3000-4000 miles a year in my cars. They preset new cars to 12000-15000 miles, so I can call them at the 3 month mark and get an adjustment.

No, there are other reasons.....
I haven't had the cruzer out in almost 6 months due to tag issues. Finally had to get very, very pushy to get any answer. Can't find options for home either.

Basically it looks like he is not willing to put the effort into multiple issues right now in Ca. This is why I'm going elsewhere. I was trying to consolidate multiple things under one agent ( him).

Okay, please post numbers of these agents.....
I'm not seeing the ads here or they are not working right.

Thanks

I just went to AAA to add a couple of cars and check on homeowners for the house I am living in. Farmers did the policy as a rental, well now that I am living there, they want auto water shut off and burglar alarm to write the policy. AAA will write the house but they won't rewrite the rental in Camarillo because it is a duplex. So now i have to find someone to write the rental. But the two cars full coverage only cost an additional 500.00 a year.. I think that is 11 cars with AAA and it is right around 5k a a year.

Its ugly out there. may very well be worse than what you have now if you compare apples/apples.

Most of my markets have stopped writing new business or are being crazy selective in what they are accepting. I am basically telling 80% of the people that call in I don't have anything for them. The more complicated the risk the harder it is currently.

Crazy that people are saying progressive is competitive. In the last 28 years of writing business I don't think I have ever lost a client to progressive. That's where you go when you need solid coverage and nobody else wants you.

Progressive has nearly tripled in two years. Unfortunately we have an open claim with them at the moment for a fairly minor deal but once that repair is done I’ve gotta get out from under them… They drug this claim out over six months, and have been absolutely awful to deal with.

Insurance has gotten prohibitively expensive in the last 36 months coincidentally when Joseph Robinette Biden Took office 😑

If progressive is high. That means my allstate is outrageous. I checked a few years ago and AAA was a few hundred more. Just checked progressive to see if my allstate was in line. Progressive suggested plan was $1600 for 6 months. Allstate was $2750 up from $1750 last year for 6 months.

Hate to price shop a friend but feel like I am paying way to much. My commercial truck policy seems like a deal in comparison.

Just make sure everything is correct and matches line by line. look at all deductibles as well as discounts/mileage.

All state , state farm and farmers have always been weird. some prices are absolutely outrageous while others are unbeatable.

I have Geico out here in utah and they have gone up a bunch in the last 1.5 years. Costco seems to be pretty dang good for this area but i need to renew my membership and shop it.

If you live in an HFRA I would pump the breaks in pulling your insurance.

Or not…

Wait until the government starts to mess with health care insurance. Wait.....never mind.

It just occurred to me that I have had insurance on something for over 20 years now. Not one claim. I guess I should have self insured?

My 07Tundra went down $40 but my 2000 civic went up$140 for 6 months. My Good Neighbor agent left town and move the the OC.
Always had a local agent, wasn't real pleased with that but they have all my policies and it's probably a bad time to look for homeowners.

My house is staying with Farmers currently as no one else is willing to touch it. Somehow, here in the Delta, surrounded by well irrigated Ag, I am considered a fire risk on a random map that covers huge swaths of the state. That was part of the issue with this guy. He didn't want to put effort into finding something else but wouldn't just say that.

Register it in Az and make getting insurance much easier.
in ca if you find anyone that will touch will max out stated value at 50k if your receipts total higher, they won’t cover you

Ugh, that's not good. The new build on this is way, way over that.

Pretty much only actual offroad vehicles that are covered in ca beyond 50k are rzr can am etc with purchase agreement
otherwise stated value and receipts to replace must equal at or below 50k. If over, denied. Also note in ca if you get covered on that build, driving record will have to be spotless. Not even a seatbelt ticket. Otherwise theyll mail your premium back once they run your driving record.
‘my old sandrail 2 different times had premium sent back and policy cancelled for years old carpool violation.

register in Az, they will value / insure at build cost/ stated value. It’s not cheap, but its way less then replacing if it gets totaled or stolen etc…
statefarm in Az did my sandrail and been covered couple years now. no issues
