In the next few years the US will mandate that all new cars sold in the states have this V2V technology. Each car will transmit a wi-fi signal to any near by vehicle and vice-versa. Effectively the cars will be talking to each other. The goal behind this is the cars will alert each other of a possible collision by alerting the drivers before a bad decision takes place by vibrating the seat. They claim it could reduce accidents by 80%! It looks like cars will become idiot proof

It's also in the works in Germany right now. They may have this V2V available first.
