If you had a Maritime License…….. How would you use it?

What level of license are you seeking? OUPV, Master 25ton, 50ton, 100ton? Higher?

Are you aware that there are multiple endorsements that will be needed to accompany your license? MROP is an example. (Marine Radio Operators Permit) TWIC, First Aid, CPR, STCW, Eng 1, Radar, and many more?

You also need seat time in order to qualify for tonnage. Have you ever driven a 100ton vessel?

Once you get all the above endorsements, your license still is not valid until you join a Captains Consortium, that has random drug testing.

There are also 3 types of licenses. Inland, Coastal, and Ocean.

It’s a fun gig. It hardly seems like work, when you find the right situation.

I am happy to answer questions. You can also PM me, and we can chat on phone.

What would someone need if they wanted to use a Pontoon on Havasu or the River to take people out on day trips for money? Or drive the Tow Boat for BoatUS
At a minimum, a 6 pack license. That's assuming your float has all the mandated USCG equipment and was constructed to carry that many occupants. The insurance is going to open your eyes. Tow Boat will probably want a minimum of a 6 pack, more likely a 100 ton with endorsements and sea time.

USCG Master, Unlimited. 1982.

My thought was 6 pack inland. More of a course to educate me on maritime law, operation and stuff like that

I have a inland 100 gross ton master/ 100 gross ton mate near coastal USCG license with a towing endorsement. Going through the 3rd renewal process right now. Should get upgraded to 100 ton master near coastal this time around.

I operate 33'- 45' boats daily with-in the harbor, and occasionally operate a 67' dive boat between Los Angeles and Catalina.

I’m 46, Been a capt since 18. Started with a 6pack now on my 3rd renewal of a 500 ton license, and yes there are a lot of of other endorsements that could be necessary for what you are thinking.
