A little background: I was in high level strategic sales in Corporate America for many years. Then I left the corporate world and was self employed for about 10 years. A few years ago, I decided to go back to Corporate America. It wasn't easy to get back in the door as most corporations shy away from people that have been self employed for a multitude of reasons. They say they like Entrepreneurial people, but in fact they DO NOT. LOL. I interviewed with 3 companies and received 2 job offers (I was told I was the front runner for the 3rd company, but they really needed someone who lives in So Cal). I felt pretty good about that. I accepted a position in 2011 and have worked my ass off ever since. I have a passion for what I do and love getting up and working everyday.

I worked hard and had a high level of success. About 3.5 weeks ago, I get a phone call out of the blue say that the company is restructuring and eliminating nearly 200 positions...and mine was one of them (effective in 2 days). The positions eliminated were across the gamut of tenure and performance, meaning it wasn't based on either. It was based on where they were heavy with headcount and what the expenses where to have that person. I have never been Let Go from a company in my life, which made it very difficult for me. Even though there was nothing I could have done differently, being Unemployed messes with your psyche. You go through a whole range of emotions and it was definitely Uncharted Waters for me.

I had planned on starting a thread on RDP to help with my job search. However, in networking with people I know I was able to start the meeting / interview process with a couple of companies based on a personal referral. I let both companies know that I was meeting with another company. Both were great opportunities and of interest to me. Over the next week or so, both companies were rushing things through to get me through the process and get an offer out to me. The first one that came through was the position that I really wanted. The good news is I start on a new adventure next week and was only Unemployed for approx. 3.5 weeks (in what I do, it is not uncommon for the interview process to take 6-7 months due to travel schedules).

Now for the Thank You part!! Knowing that I had a great resource / support group (RDP) in my corner, allowed me to go into my meetings with a high level of confidence (meaning the company needs to impress me as much as I need to impress them). So Thank You to every member of RDP for being there for me (even though it was just in my mind. LOL.). I can't tell you how important it was. Thank you again!!!!

I look forward to seeing many of you in Needles. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Here, Froggy says: "Hi" :D

gamut
ˈgamət/Submit
noun
1.
the complete range or scope of something.
"the whole gamut of human emotion"
synonyms: range, spectrum, span, scope, sweep, compass, area, breadth, reach, extent, catalog, scale;

That's great you found a good replacement job so quickly! I think a new atmosphere and different challenges are good for people. Be sure and post pics of the hot chicks there. :skull

I was flip about it but the power of RDP is amazing and the feeling of having that power behind you is pretty empowering. I'm glad to hear you're starting a new adventure and wish you well. :thumbsup

80% of all jobs are never listed , employers are looking for the "right person" for the job....word of mouth is king! CONGRATS!

By the way, wouldn't it be "Un- Unemployed" ?

Congrats...

It makes no sense to me why productive sales people are laid-off.
They cover their salary - and then some.

It seems from your post you did all the heavy lifting and we did nothing. (as usual) :p

Must've been hard work getting back into the corporate world after ten years of being self employed. I got a severance package from my corporate gig back in 2011 and after 3 years I'm seeing some jobs that look interesting but it's not easy getting an interview. I like to think things are getting better in job market but it remains an insider's game. Just have to make the most of the down time while you got it.

I was always confident in my skillz :)D ) I just didn't know how it would be looking for a job when I was unemployed. Plus since I had never been terminated in my life, it definitely messes with your head. I was asked in every meeting, "how do I know you are not just looking to accept this position just to get a paycheck since you are not working?" I was able to overcome that, but I was asked.

We all know your wife is wealthy. You don't have to work ;)

You promised you wouldn't tell anyone!! :D

I am happy to share whatever information I can to assist you. PM me your number if you would like to talk about it. Best of luck to you.

I love a happy story:thumbup:. When a boat I worked on sold several years ago without warning I flew home and probably looked like one of those birds that keeps flying into a window, totally lost.
