First off, I dont mean to speak disparaging about anyone trying to make a go of opening a biz at all, but this was way over the top IMHO so all respect given
So mama wanted a Pastrami sandwich for lunch yesterday and there used to be a little sandwich shop on the south end of town that was pretty good so off we go, sorry closed, and now a donut shop.
We remembered a new shop in town on Swanson so off we go, got there and oredered our sami's and went to the counter to pay for 2 sami's and 2 smalll drinks. The nice lady says that will be $39.73 please, OMG  I asked if that was correct and yes she said. Normally I would have walked out at that point but mama was hungry so we paid.
Now the food was good, and quite big to be truthful but crap ****$40 for 2 sandwiches ???????????????
Point is, if this is the future for us people then we dont stand a chance in hell of making it IMHO:(

I would have said cancel my order.
The only way to combat this price gouging is to not pay it.

Sounds about right. Bought a Chicken Blt and coffee from Panera yesterday and it was 18 bucks. Not that I agree with those high prices, but that is what it costs now.

Went to El Tapitio Thursday for lunch, just the wife and I.
They re-did their menus to look like a hard cover book. Didn't really look at the prices because last month we spent about $45...sooo after a sangria, a margarita, chile cheese fries, a taco sald, and a chili relleno plate, got a lunch table for $86 !
There is noooo fuckin way Mexican food costs that much! Them new menus must have cost them plenty...Taco Bell for $20 next time 🤮

We had two lunches and four drinks at RoadRunner yesterday. 73 dollars. Plus tip. 90 bucks. My lunch was almost inedible. Wife said her burger was good. I really am not a fan of that place. I may not be back.

My f'ing gov't pension won't keep up with this madness. But prices sure won't be going down.
Looking for a place to be poor!

X2. I agree and we stopped eating out for the reasons.

Covid is over, the dems are out, and the bad behavior needs to stop.

We paid $50 to park at YouTube theater (at SoFi stadium). I filled out their "how did we do" and told them I would never return on principle alone because the fee is predatory.

They responded and apologized for the cost but said they cannot change it.

I responded thanks, but no thanks.

Everybody had their hand in the Covid cookie jar and now that sales are dropping, businesses have to stick it to the few who are still willing to pay.

F* that.

All you folks accusing businesses of price gouging need to go out and run a food business for yourselves. Are food establishments just supposed to provide you service and not make a profit? Quit eating at the establishments and nature will take its course.

It’s always been cheaper to stay home and eat.

In n out is $11 out the door for a #1. Sliced pastrami and all the fixings costs way more than 2 ground beef patties.

Stadium parking has always been crazy high.

Walking out on a business because of price after they made you food is a special kind of passive aggressive lol. I assume they have a menu with a price you can evaluate before you order. If they don’t have prices listed then

“If you have to ask you can’t afford it” comes to mind.

I have been eating out a lot lately. Work is good so I pay it forward. Lots of my regular spots are slow and appreciate it. Free desert, extra beer, a soup. Little things that show they appreciate me.

Yesterday lunch was $20 and change burger, half fries and onion rings and a drink. It was delicious.

Dinner night before. Only spot open after 10 $45 $55 with tip. Ramen gyoza combo, sm fried rice and a Asahi. Was excellent.

Dinner night before at Fanoos. $40 he gave me 10% off and a free desert.

Tuesday night. Best deal is El torito. Happy hour until 9 every day at the bar. $3 tacos on Tuesday. Only $35. Asada fries $8 3 tacos 3 modelos $50 with tip.

Jacks pizza for lunch the other day. Best deal for a large pastrami. Coke and chips. Only $14 and change.

Only complaint I had lately on a $20 pastrami was at Orleans and York. Great sandwich. But it was so small I could of ate 3. So it would of been almost $60 to be full. I bought my guys lunch a hour later and had to grab another sandwich.

Pirates den/cove is looking like a 5 Star establishment after a roadrunner meal.

In n out is the cheapest lunch around. I have a few choices but in n out beats them all

Anyone who’s lives in north county and has had Lourdes chicken soup knows it is one of the best in cold weather. Back in the day a large was about 6-7 bucks, now $11.99.

last night got off work and picked up two large soups and an 8 oz. Cup of beans which was $5 and some change (FOR BEANS!!!) total out the door was about $33. Unreal.

Jersey mikes needs a size between the giant and large. I eat a lot and the giant is a little to much most days. It's $20 but most could split it. #9 on white light lettuce add yellow mustard and a few pickles.

Im in their rewards program. Yesterdays #17 was free. Took about 10 orders to get there though. 😆
I like the #16 at Jersey Mikes....giant Chicken Cheesesteak with mushrooms and I add bacon, not diet food and I think it $20, but pretty good

InNOUT still only place I can get something tasty for under $10, but the line keeps me away from there unless it's 4:00 and there's no line at the one by my house

Jersey mikes for me is 16.08 reg 9 and a large combo. If I buy worker a sandwich it goes to 25.00 or so. Just a fact of life. I have over 8000 rewards points, They keep asking if I am ever going to use them. It's like an investment account, when they raise the price of sandwiches the points will pay off.

I get the regular #17 or mini #13. It’s enough for me.

Any service business that shows they care, and similarly, any restaurant that has reasonable prices and treats their customers good (as NicPaus describes) will thrive right now.

In DTLA, Shake Shack and Panda Express abruptly scuttled their shops. Trejo's Tacos never opened. Yet, Corner Bakery and mendocino Farms have lines out the doors. Mainly because you get a sandwich, side and a side salad for $15.

The same holds true down at Grand Central Marketplace. Vendors open and close all the time. The old timers still serve big portions at reasonable cost and they are busy. And I'm pretty sure they pay the same overhead as the guy who just went out of business next to them.

NicPaus - the Orleans and York is spendy in DTLA too, but they serve a good portion size and I think it's pretty good.

Felipe's has small portions, no real change there.

East Side Deli - hell yes; they get it and if you don't get there early, you're not getting in. They did not start gouging, their kick ass dip or pastrami with peppers is about $15 for a regular - which is more than enough for most folks.

$20 for a pastrami in Havi - I don't think so.

I know what you mean. I get the giant and can usually only eat half of it and save the other half for a snack the next day. The Mikes Philly is good the next day after 30 seconds in the nukerowave machine ;)

Have you been to Place To Be in LHC? To me it's the best unknown restaurant in town. Great salads and Philly cheesesteaks
It's of Lake Havasu ave down by Bobalou
I drive by there two or three times a week, I'll have to stop in for lunch.

F' me! We rarely go out, maybe once or twice a month tops. Rotation usually has InNOut, Culver's, and a couple of mom and pop Mexican places. For 4 or 5 of us, usually about 60-75$ Nothing is cheap anymore.

I'm hoping things stabilize soon. Costs for everything have gone up. Supplies for restaurants can't be any different than buying materials for any other job. Rents for businesses and employees alike are off the charts I think. There's no way in hell my household could survive if I had an average AZ house payment. I don't blame the shop owners, there's just places I can't or won't go.

This really isn’t difficult to grasp. Minimum wage goes through the roof. Products go through the roof, rent goes through the roof, workers comp insurance is nearly criminally expensive…who do you think pays for all those hikes and the inflation. The biz owners don’t. They pass it on to the consumer. All the fucktards screaming for $20 minimum wage are now shocked they can’t afford to go to McDonald’s. Speaking of which, 4 of us to eat at McDonald’s? $90! Not shitting you.

A small privately owned place like the OP talks about here? I don’t think there’s any money in it. Pretty sure owner isn’t driving their Ferrari to work. Faaaaaaar from price gouging. I’d wager to say they clear less than a 100k a year take home when all is said and done. If that.

Good friend of ours owns 9 jersey mikes. She does pretty good but not like crazy rich. She told me once you have to have 6 stores or more to retire “comfortably”. I took that to mean maybe a couple hundred take home a year.

The only place I liked to eat in Havi. Was Borns Best sandwiches if I recall. Local lady from my area moved there and ran it. Heard it closed though. Was a great sandwich spot. Not many mom and pop spot left. Got to eat there regularly and support them.

By Me most my favorites are gone. Busy Bees is still one of my go to if we are working anywhere close.

The burger combo on the toasted bread is bomb and only like 20 all in.
My Sister is right around the corner. But all 3 kids no longer want to share. So She rarely goes as it's $60-80 lunch.

There chicken fried steak breakfast is bomb. I would eat there all the time if it was close. Our Fantastic burned down and it sucks. And it was not nearly as good as Johns.
