Two weeks out from a total knee replacement

Doing good so far, I can walk on my own for a short distance if I have something to hang on to, but they still want me using the walker. Pain wasn’t as bad as I expected but I’m still on painkillers and I don’t think I’d be getting through PT without them. PT is happy with my progress, so that’s good. I get the 38 staples removed on Friday, I’m hoping that helps free up some more movement.

For those of you that have had a full knee replacement, how long did it take you to recover and start feeling the benifits of the new knee?

Congrats on getting it done. Hope you have a quick and successful recovery.
One of the standout takeaways from our recent vacation was how important overall health and mobility in life. We did daily “excursions” where a certain amount of walking/fitness was recommended. . Long story short, i haven’t missed a daily dog walk or workout since we’ve been back.

Mine (TKR) was 2 weeks ago today , I'm am not the picture of health and 72 but I heal quickly I walked in recovery, home the same day, tossed the clumsy ass walker on day two and went to a cane , also quit the opiates 2nd day (can't stand them) Walked half my driveway on day 7 , went back to work last Saturday . Am I tough? No just self employed Heres My theory'''''' My pre surgery pain was brutal and I spent over a year limping , My Surgeons is a rock star and home health/PT were awesome any pain I have now is minimal vs two weeks ago (prior to surgery)

Honestly....I took no medications and was riding my Harley within a week or two. When the staples get removed it felt friggin good. Within a day or so I was walking all over LuckyStrikes ranch. He was like WTF

Ice and elevation and doing your therapy is the key. Don't cheat and just push thru it.

But.....I am wired a little differently....lol

Just to add one thing....best thing I have ever done. I had bone on bone for about 20 years. Lots of basketball injuries. Whatever pain I had from the surgery was less than what I put up with all those years. It literally is a new lease on life. Chronic pain can cause depression and just overall is stopping you from having a quality life. You ignore it for so long and are just used to it but....once you push thru this you are going to be very happy

Man, there’s some tough SOB’s on here. I’m still taking painkillers before and after therapy.
I’m only 67 but I waited about five years too long. They said the replacement only lasts about 20 years and I really didn’t want to go through two of them so I did Cortizone shots and other therapies to get me further down the road.
It is definitely affected my quality of life, you don’t realize how much it restricts you. You just learn to live with it and slowly stop doing the things that cause your pain.

This is exactly how my recovery went and it was the best thing I ever did for my body. Only thing I’d add is push through the pain of PT and don’t forget to work on the range of motion of the knee. Work hard, ice, elevate, repeat!

You are some tuff old sum'bitches. I put mine off for many years, I guess 20 years running in boots for the Marines took its toll on my ass. Finally last Thursday the 5th I went in. Surgery was fine, recovery has been going fine, PT fine, pain has been interesting I suppose. But I was bone on bone and tolerated major pain for years and years. Perhaps my gauge is skewed? Did it in socal, was wondering if any of you have direct, personal, experience with a surgeon in havasu? Not sure if I want to do the next one back in LA. Looking for a referral from an actual total knee replacement patient out here. PM would be preferred, thank you kindly.
