I emailed the Food and Bev manager, and here is his response.

Hi Glenn,

I appreciate your inquiry as this is causing a tremendous amount of confusion
to our guest. Yes we are charging resort guest with rooms $50 per night to reserve
Their boat space in the cove. We have not as of yet started charging Turtle
Guest a fee to park in the transient boat parking area in front of the Turtle.
We will in the future start charging a $10 fee for parking in front of the Turtle.
With the $10 fee you will receive a $10 voucher good for $10 in credit at the Grill
Or Beach for food. The boat slips are still open at no charge. We have had to start
This program due to boaters using our beach in front of the Turtle to "hang out"
All day and not allow guest access to the Turtle. I hope this answers your
Questions Glen and please feel free to call me directly if you have any further
Questions.

Thanks

So it is to make sure you have a spot. I guess you dont have to pay, but you run the risk of not having one I guess.

Sounds like a complete cluster f*ck!

50 bucks to beach your boat if you're staying there!? Completely asinine! Seems like if you're staying at the hotel, you should get a colored band to beach your boat there for the time you're there for free.

exactly! nuthing like taking more $ from the people that are already paying to be there, makes no sense! Other than greed! :grumble:

and at DS, we all know where each of likes to park from year to year. Most of us are in the same spots each time. They will prolly assign us to a spot we dont want (like out on the point in the rocks) and charge us double... even after paying the soon to follow inflated hotel charges!

Remember the 2 cabana's that were in the middle of the cove? they charged $100 per nite on those! They have been taken down (gone)! Maybe because it blocked the view of the new pool, or maybe because nobody paid that kinda money to use them. :blah:

I understand that spots are limited and they want to reserve them for paying customers, but $20 seems excessive and could result in an overall loss of business. Do they give your dough back if you hit the bar or restaurant?

Pirate Cove has the right idea with their expanded docks to increase business...that place is busy every time I go.

Makes some sense to charge/voucher for guest visiting turtle bar
**** I actually stopped going there because I would rent the parlor suite in front of turtle bar, but have to park in docks while I would literally see boaters in front of my $300/day suite parked in the cove all day and drink out of their coolers and hang out on my $300/day. (an yes I would see them while I spent hours at Turtle bar, spending $$ while they enjoyed the cove).

The guest charge of $50/day to reserve cove spot does not fix the issue and it is another added cost on top of poor service and security... not to mention boat damage from overcrowding.

They have to pay for the new pool & bar somehow. To me I think it was a waste of money :blah:

They are doing the same thing for the pool, $10 per guest per day & $20 per day for non-guest. :thumbsdown
I don't see anything wrong with charging non guest but, if your paying for a room, the pool should come with it.

The cabana's are now on the beach by the water park.

I just stayed there and it was 15 bucks a night for your boat to stay on the beach. I thought it was great because I always had a place to park. Jim was the security guard on the beach and super nice. Shity to charge for the Turtle and they should lose a lot of business over this. They will need a lot more docks!!!!

I was at the turtle and at 6pm the guard came in and told everybody who hadn't paid for a $50 overnight spot to move there boat or it would be towed.

One issue is that the docks are a complete pile of shit. Lots of jagged steel, screws sticking out through the rubber bumpers, etc.

50.00 a night is BS on top of your room !!! I can understand if people were day beaching there charge them but one of the nice things about staying there was beaching your boat and being able to keep an eye on it. if they plan on charging i think 5-15 bucks would be mor reasonable....

Who and where would they tow the boat to? Like they have an impound yard on the lake.

Too bad the Indians on the California side couldn't set up a beach/bar/hangout and give the Turtle and Pirate some competition.

Anchor and swim in.:D

That seems reasonable. I've seen people camped there all day with easy ups and kids toys.I know I spend alot when I go there , so I could stay all day.

I agree with you. We usually spend around 4 hours and 60-70 bucks on food and drink. :D

Well written and makes complete sense to me.

When I go there I go there to eat and drink, the voucher system works fine. I could skip the voucher process and use the docks but the gelcoat repair bill from the bolts and nails sticking out of them will far exceed the beach parking fee.
